Not bad for the 2nd year of football.

2017 Football Roster
Tied with 1 other for 2nd, tied with 5 others for last.
Not a chance. I've just been enjoying a long-overdue internet detox, restricting my browsing to porn sites and job hunting. I got a new job in early November after facing the fact that my 32-year career in engineering/design was in end-stage CHF with no remission in sight. I am now working as a professional woodworker at a (pray for me) start-up offering high end commercial and residential wood work and finishing. I feel appreciated again. But I work 12 hour days- including lunch and longer commute- 4 days a week and have little time or inclination for internet fuqueing around, and not al all during the work day.billy.pilgrim wrote: ↑Sat Oct 14, 2017 10:20 am. . . I worry that I pissed Boat off with my last bammer post - hope not, I enjoy his posts and invite him to trash Auburn at every chance. There is always next year.
Vrede too wrote: ↑Sat Oct 14, 2017 10:34 amI doubt it. He doesn't seem the type to run from trash talk, especially over sports, he's always disappeared for long stretches . . . and he still goes to his AL family gatherings. You can't be as bad as they are. If anything, I'd guess that not having cons to beat up makes this forum less interesting to him.billy.pilgrim wrote: ↑Sat Oct 14, 2017 10:20 am... Congrats, I guess, you sound like you have mixed feelings. I hope you end up better off.Boatrocker wrote: ↑Sun Dec 17, 2017 9:01 pmNot a chance. And kiss my ass, barner.

It’s interesting pool strategy. Do you pick the most likely to happen, which may mean that you’re still competing with several others, or do you pick the least likely to happen which may mean that you’ve got a niche all to yourself? These things matter more if you’re like me and don’t care for any of the 4 sucky teams.Vrede too wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2017 6:08 pmI told my brother to send the $15 side bet he owed me to Doug Jones. I think my $45 put him over the top.
In the semis Alabama is favored by just 2 1/2, Georgia is favored by just 2 1 1/2.

Closest 2 games ever?

Odds to win 2017 College Football Championship Game (1/8/18)
Team / Odds
Alabama 2/1
Clemson 5/2
Oklahoma 7/2
Georgia 7/2
Outcome of College Football Playoff Championship (1/8/18)
Teams / Odds
Alabama defeats Georgia 4/1
Alabama defeats Oklahoma 9/2
Clemson defeats Georga 9/2
Clemson defeats Oklahoma 6/1
Georgia defeats Alabama 13/2
Georgia defeats Clemson 7/1
Oklahoma defeats Alabama 13/2
Oklahoma defeats Clemson 7/1
I'm going with:
Alabama defeats Oklahoma
Georgia defeats Alabama
Oklahoma defeats Clemson
So I guess if I were picking, along with my usual strategy, I'd have to root for Bammer. Arrgh. I'm glad I'm not picking - too much repel-repel internal conflict.Vrede too wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2017 9:03 am

I don't do football pools, but I've won several March Madness pools with that approach.
...
Most surprising - Not 1 of us picked what Vegas thinks is most likely: Alabama defeats Georgia. Did we out think ourselves?
If it was just this year's playoffs, I wouldn't participate.
Vrede too wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2017 9:03 amUnderdogs beat the spread in 5 of 6 games on Saturday and won outright in 4 of those games. I like upsets.
Ohio St. fans have a legit gripe in theory, but folks do seem to think that Alabama is the best team in there. I’m glad I’m not on the PSC.It’s interesting pool strategy. I'm going with:

Clemson defeats Georgia - 1
Clemson defeats Oklahoma - 4
Georgia defeats Alabama - 2 (including me)
Georgia defeats Clemson - 2
Oklahoma defeats Alabama - 2
Oklahoma defeats Clemson - 2 (including me)
So:
Each team has 4 backers except for Clemson having 5. Surprising balance.
9 think Clemson will win the semi, 8 Alabama.
9 think the favorites Clemson or Alabama will win the Championship, 8 not.
12 think Oklahoma will win the semi, only 5 Georgia.
Those Georgia bettors are committed, though. 4 of the 5 think it will win the Championship.
One player has a lock on Clemson defeats Georgia.
Most surprising - Not 1 of us picked what Vegas thinks is most likely: Alabama defeats Georgia. Did we out think ourselves?
O Really wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2017 12:30 pm... It's ridiculous that the winner of the Big 10 (or SEC, or PAC 12 or even ACC recently) isn't eligible for the championship. Any time there's "selection" instead of "win to get in" it's going to be a clusterfuck.
Big 12, too. Of course, limiting it to the Power 5 (and theoretically Notre Dame) is also "selection". Why not undefeated AAC UCF this year or a Mountain West Boise State in a different year?
Yeah, I know, there's "selection" in NCAA basketball, too,
All the conference champs do get automatic bids, hence the 1st round romps.
but jeez, they start with 64 teams. That's a little different.
4 teams will never be enough.
O Really wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2017 3:19 pm4 teams for a "championship" is ridiculous. So if - big IF - you thought the final rankings were accurate, AND, you thought that all the top four were pretty evenly matched and any one might deserve to be the winner, then you could pass it off as some sort of "champions bowl." Problem is, those assumptions are inherently contradictory. If the rankings are right, then #4 shouldn't be able to win. If they do, then the rankings weren't right. So if you start that the rankings are a guess, you're even worse off to claim the winner is "champion" because the best team might have been #5. If they're not going to learn from other sports, maybe they should just admit to using WWF or NASCAR as their competition model.
Vrede too wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2017 3:31 pmAccording to the PSC, AP and Coaches an 8-team playoff would have included Clemson, Oklahoma, Georgia, Alabama AND Ohio State, Wisconsin, Auburn and USC. A 12-team playoff with 1st round byes for the top 4 would have also included Penn State, Miami, Washington and unbeaten UCF. Very few would have any doubts that the best team was somewhere in those top 8 or 12 teams.
Akron 3, FAU 50. Early on the announcer was griping because Akron went for the FG rather than the TD.
Louisiana Tech went up 42-3 . . . in the first half! Tied with 1 other for 2nd at 1 out of the lead, tied with 3 others at 1 away from last.
QB got knocked out of the game in the 1st quarter .
Easy fix - FCS games shouldn't count towards bowl eligibility, period.billy.pilgrim wrote: ↑Fri Dec 22, 2017 8:31 amFSU fails to qualify for bowl game, but gets to play anyway.
I guess the rules don't apply to RapeSU footballers.
