Nuclear weapons

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

OMG, I knew for a fact that you were just making a clever joke.

No, sad but true. I saw the story about that a couple days ago. :silent: There was a photo with the story of the sign at the entrance to the place; written in Hebrew so I couldn't read it.

I learned yesterday from a staunch Trump defender that the United States and Obama in particular quite literally handed over nuclear weapons to Iran. I'm not sure if anyone else here is aware of this and it very well may be breaking news so if you want to report it to Fox News by all means go for it.

They told me that Carter did it, Ronnie got all the weapons and nuclear material back and then Clinton handed it right back to them.

Shit; all this time I thought Kissinger did it. He had it bad for Golda Meir back when he was relevant.

US arms control office critically understaffed under Trump, experts say
State department office whittled down in staff numbers from 14 at start of administration to four as Trump shifts approach

:ateeth: Not that Obama's 14 was adequate. Think how many people depend on nuclear weapons for their jobs and income.
Here’s how many nuclear warheads exist, and which countries own them

...

The report found that 13,865 warheads in existence at the start of 2019 were owned by nine nations: the United States, Russia, the United Kingdom, France, China, India, Pakistan, Israel and North Korea.

The year before hosted an arsenal of 14,465 warheads....

One big cause of the decrease in arsenal size, according to SIPRI, is the implementation of the New START Treaty between the U.S. and Russia, meant to reduce and set limits on ballistic missiles. The two nations produce more than 90 percent of the world’s nuclear arms.

The U.S. and Russia announced in 2018 that they had met the limits of the New START Treaty. But if an extension is not implemented, the treaty will expire in 2021....

National Missile Defense Set Back

Of course it did. Hundreds of billions or more have been wasted on various schemes since Reagan announced "Star Wars" (SDI) in the 1980s. From the start smart, expert and sane people have pointed out that the task is too complex, too costly, will ADD to insecurity, and that any system will always be easily overwhelmed with the addition of weapons or decoys. This is the ultimate in pork - lasts for decades, never a chance of producing a workable product.

West Wing - Charlie Brown of missile defence

At the same time:
U.S. Nuclear Excess: Understanding the Costs, Risks, and Alternatives

... In short, the Trump administration is preparing to compete in a new nuclear arms race while simultaneously increasing the likelihood of such a contest.

The projected cost of the proposed nuclear spending spree is staggering and it is growing. The United States currently plans to spend nearly $500 billion, after including the effects of inflation, to maintain and replace its nuclear arsenal over the next decade, according to a January 2019 Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report. This is an increase of nearly $100 billion, or about 23 percent, above the already enormous projected cost as of the end of the Obama administration. Over the next 30 years, the price tag is likely to top $1.5 trillion and could even approach $2 trillion....
The article goes on to chart an alternate course.

Best answer: Nominated or not, I'll do everything possible to get Trump out of office.

Without him and his constant pot-stirring, there wouldn't be a significant nuclear threat.

Alternate answer: "stop alienating our allies; stop poking adversaries in the eye, and focus on bringing the diplomatic corps back to a level of excellent professionalism."

Not specifically a weapon, but in actuality, is. Just a slow acting one. The covering over the Chernobyl reactor is having to be replaced.
