The Wall

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

What part of "illegal" will his new Supreme Court not understand?

Ummm, I would say "give it a little time, then all of it."

I heard a whisper last week about a huge illegal immigrant caravan heading toward our border. Wall news shouldn't be far behind - if the caravan news polled well.

CNN Fact-Checker Debunks The Donald Trump 'Lie That Won't Die'

CNN’s fact-checking reporter Daniel Dale on Monday named the lie told by President Donald Trump that just won’t die.

He then firmly debunked it.

During an appearance on “CNN Tonight,” Dale began by dismantling some of the claims that Trump made at his rally in Sanford, Florida, about Democratic nominee Joe Biden. The president “basically seems determined to run against a version” of Biden “that doesn’t actually exist,” Dale said.

Anchor Don Lemon then aired footage of Trump at the rally claiming that his 2016 campaign promise of a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border was almost complete ― and that Mexico was paying for its construction.

“Oh my God, I can do the fact-check on this one,” an incredulous Lemon said. “And those people — they believe him!”

Dale agreed, saying, “A lot of it is replacement fence.”

“More importantly, tonight, Mexico is not paying for the wall,” the fact-checker said. “American taxpayers are paying for the wall both from congressionally appropriated money and money that Trump has basically seized from other stuff, like the military.”

“This is the lie that won’t die,” Dale concluded. “It goes dormant for a while, then it seems like around election time it magically returns. And no, Mexico is still not paying for the border wall.”

Contractors Smuggled Armed Mexican Nationals To Guard Trump's Border Wall: Complaint

Construction companies hired to help erect President Donald Trump’s southern border wall secretly helped armed Mexican nationals illegally cross into the U.S. and paid them to provide security at construction sites, according to a whistleblower complaint unsealed Friday.

Sullivan Land Services (SLS) and subcontractor Ultimate Concrete are accused in the complaint of having facilitated the illegal crossings, with Ultimate Concrete allegedly creating a dirt road to allow entry from Mexico into the U.S. and covering security cameras with construction trucks.

Both companies are alleged to have also intentionally overcharged the federal government for work on the wall, which has so far cost the U.S. more than $11 billion and is meant to prevent illegal crossings....

The whistleblowers were only identified in the complaint as former law enforcement officers, one of whom spent 10 years working as a sheriff’s deputy with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. The second is identified as a former FBI supervisory special agent whose more than 12 years with the agency included serving as a Special Agent on a public corruption squad in Washington, D.C.

That former agent said they first contacted the FBI with allegations of corruption in July of last year. Both security contractors then met with the FBI that following November.

In addition to violating federal laws, the complaint claims that the contractors’ decision to hire Mexican nationals violated the border wall’s construction agreement with the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). Under previously agreed to terms, the construction companies were required to immediately report any suspected border crossing to Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) and to have no direct coordination with Mexican entities. All workers, including hired private security, were also required to obtain preapproval by CBP before they entered the construction site. Contractor personnel, equipment or materials were also prohibited from crossing into Mexico....

"Toward the end of Trump's term, contractors rushed to tackle arduous terrain, carving access roads and blasting staging areas into areas that campaigners said would never actually be completed.

Insider commissioned the photographer John Darwin Kurc to document those parts of the border where work has suddenly stopped.

"Kurc, who has made it no secret that he opposes the border wall, has spent months documenting the project and its impact on the environment.

Blasting continued on Inauguration Day, hours before Biden signed the proclamation halting the project"

Opps. It's even worse for the huckster:
The guy who crowdfunded $25 million to build Trump's border wall can't use the money for his legal defense, a judge ruled

... Federal prosecutors in Manhattan say he took hundreds of thousands of dollars from that sum to enrich himself and spend on things like a boat, a luxury SUV, a golf cart, jewelry, plastic surgery, home renovations, and credit-card debt.

... Trump did not pardon Kolfage or Andrew Babolat and Timothy Shea, two other alleged co-conspirators.

Shortly after the charges were filed in August, the judge overseeing the case, Analisa Torres, granted prosecutors' request to freeze the funds Kolfage raised as part of a restraining order, court filings show. But Kolfage argued he needs the funds to pay an insurance policy he took out for "We Build a Wall" that would fund his legal defense.

In the new ruling, Torres, citing legal precedents, wrote that Kolfage's constitutional right to counsel doesn't mean she needs to unfreeze the funds so that Kolfage can pay his preferred lawyer.

"So long as a court finds probable cause that the restrained assets are forfeitable, a defendant is not entitled to modification of the restraining order to allow him to access funds to pay for an attorney," Torres wrote....

A separate indictment from federal prosecutors in Florida unsealed Thursday accused Kolfage of tax crimes. Prosecutors said that while Kolfage took hundreds of thousands of dollars for himself from "We Build a Wall," he listed his income for 2019 at just $63,574.
:---P :---P
Steinberg, the attorney Kolfage says he's struggling to pay, was dismissive of the new federal charges in Florida.

"Unlike the government, we are not going to hold a press conference to celebrate the persecution of a war hero," he told Insider.

 That would finally be a reason for Mexico to pay for it.

Anyhow:
... He's hoping that as border control remains a problem, the federal government will be moved to take over his private wall....
Good luck with that. Maybe he's hoping for Texas or local govt.
