Will republicans use the Coronavirus in another of their socialism for the rich scams?

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Will republicans use the Coronavirus in another of their socialism for the rich scams?

Unread post by billy.pilgrim »

I heard on the radio that donnie is already crying about the poor hotel owners may need federal (taxpayer) assistance.

Probably more to come; afterall, ask not what the workers can do for the country, ask what they can be do for the rich.

Already in the works:

Along with hotels we may end up owning airlines, cruise ship companies, Dollywood and your Redneck Riviera.

This was a pleasant surprise . . . so far.

Trump vows economic relief amid growing coronavirus fears

I was sure that I was going to be adding to billy.pilgrim's "socialism for the rich" list. Instead, President* Trump mentions:

“possible payroll tax cut or relief, substantial relief, very substantial relief.”
help for hourly workers who lack paid sick leave, which could cause them to come to work while ill to avoid missing a shift.
“creating loans for small businesses.”

Opps, I missed this on first skim:
He suggested that aid will be forthcoming to a number of sectors that have suffered as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, specifically naming airlines, cruise ship operators and hoteliers.
Never mind.

He mentions lots of things, it's what he does that counts.

Here's another mention

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business ... 20%251%24s

"One of the companies hardest hit was Continental Resources, founded by Harold Hamm, a Trump supporter and an adviser to the president on energy issues. It lost more than half of its market value Monday, though it recovered about 8 percent by midday Tuesday. Hamm’s 77 percent personal stake in the company lost $2 billion of its value Monday."

No.

We have a better plan. We are going to deny care for CoVid-19 to democrat blocs like the gays, women and minorities. Then we will use imminent domain to take all their homes and build strip malls with bakeries that won't serve anyone but rich white males.

That would have been funny a few years ago. Now it's entirely too believable. Anyway, nice try, but it's really hard to think up satire that's worse than real trumpian ideas.

Official: White House didn't want to tell seniors not to fly

It’s a shame that seniors are being endangered, and ironic that they are a significant portion of Dolt .45’s base.

Otherwise, I support IMPOSPOTUS’ actions: still gathering his Trumpettes in large numbers at rallies during a pandemic, and giving out fake medical advice to the rallying Trumpettes, his Twits, and to Faux Noise viewers.

Thanks you for your service to America, President* Trump.

I just heard still speculative mention of a "shale bailout", not because of COVID-19, but because of the Saudi-Russia oil price war.

Idk if we can blame Dolt .45 or not, but it's interesting that two nations that he's been so friendly to are possibly crashing the global economy. Great world leadership, IMPOSPOTUS.

Just asking for a friend.....are you imminently rich, white, and male, or are you eminently rich, white, and male? If the former, and you're counting on trump, I advise you to run like hell. If the latter, you better enjoy it while it lasts and spend your money now because it's never gonna be worth as much as it is right now.

The first trillion goes to the rich and powerful.

?

Why do we need to prop up the airline and hotel owners but not the millions of independent carpenters and brick layers?

The planes and buildings will still be there after the bankruptcy reorganization and the rich owners are well protected, not so with the lives of those who live job to job.
We have a huge gig workforce that will likely fall through the cracks while the marlago crowd profits.

Rick Scott failed in his attempt to have everyone in Florida on any assistance program pay his wife for a drug test, so I imagine that the Scott's are quietly clicking their heels at this windfall.

Along with the Intel infrastructure-assisted insider trading, there's:
... One public health expert told NPR that early warnings about a coming health crisis and its effects could have made a difference just a few weeks ago.

"In the interest of public health, we actually need to involve the public. It's right there in the name. And being transparent, being as clear as possible is very important," said Jason Silverstein, who lectures at the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School.

"The type of language that could have come out there at the end of February saying here's what we ought to expect could have, you know, not panicked people, but gotten them all together to have to all prepare," Silverstein added.
:obscene-birdiered: Burr.

Lmao these shady motherfucks.

They feed people this star-spangled patriotic flag waving Jesus bullshit as a distraction, ask for joe six-pack blow to make sacrifices while they cash out and make bank. I read how the wealthy are buying personal ventilators and hiring live in doctors (I'll find the link in a few). Also, don't forget celebrities getting expedited testing kits.

I started reading a really freaking good book about the Great Depression: "Hard Times - An Oral History of the Great Depression" by Studs Terkel. I feel like it's relevant given the path we're taking

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005OCJBYK/re ... TF8&btkr=1

It's a bunch of first hand accounts from people's experiences. People from all walks of like. It's really interesting. Some good nuggets I saved on the kindle (I just started so not many):
No, I don’t see the Depression as an ennobling experience. Survivors are still ridin’ with the ghost-the ghost of those days when things came hard.

...

Everybody’d step on each other. They’d just walk all over and kill each other. They got more than they ever need that they’d just step on anybody to keep it. They got cars, they got houses, they got this and that. It’s more than they need, but they think they need it, so they want to keep it. Human life isn’t as important as what they got

...

This is the man who says: I built the railroads. I built that tower. I fought your wars. I was the kid with the drum. Why the hell should I be standing in line now? What happened to all this wealth I created?

...

People throwing themselves out of windows. Someone who lost money found that his life was gone. When I lost my possessions, I found my creativity. I felt I was being born for the first time. So for me the world became beautiful.

...

I resorted to one of the oldest professions-that is, begging. I became a professional panhandler. I had quite a few steady clients. One of them was Heywood Broun. Every time I put the bite on him, he’d say, “For Chrissake, don’t you know any other guy in the city beside me?” (Laughs.)

...

That’s one of the things about the Depression. There was more camaraderie than there is now. Even more comradeship than the Commies could even dream about. That was one of the feelings that America lost. People had different ideas, they disagreed with one another. But there was a fine feeling among them. You were in trouble damn it, if they could help ya, they would help ya.

More:
Senators sold off their stocks ahead of coronavirus economic crash, reports say

... The news had even progressive Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and conservative Fox host Tucker Carlson in agreement: Burr should resign from Congress.

“Maybe there’s an honest explanation for what he did. If there is, he should share it with the rest of us immediately," Carlson said on his show Thursday evening. "Otherwise, he must resign from the Senate and face prosecution for insider trading. There is no greater moral crime than betraying your country in a time of crisis, and that appears to be what happened."

"Burr knew how bad it would be. He told the truth to his wealthy donors, while assuring the public that we were fine," Ocasio-Cortez said in a tweet. "THEN he sold off $1.6 million in stock before the fall."

"He needs to resign," she said.

Ocasio-Cortez added later after the report on Loeffler surfaced that she should also resign.

And former Housing and Urban Development Secretary and 2020 presidential candidate Julián Castro tweeted, "Senators Burr and Loeffler should be investigated by authorities and the Senate Ethics Committee. If the evidence suggests they engaged in insider trading, they should be charged and stand trial."
Perhaps even worse than the insider trading is the fact that these pols did not fully inform the American public of the peril, physical and financial, as soon as they became aware of it.

My Sen. Richard Burr, N.C. (R)
Sen. Lamar Alexander, TN (R)
Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif. (a blind trust does not eliminate the possibility that she alerted the trustee, investigate)
James Inhofe, R-Okla.
Sen. Sen. Kelly Loeffler, Ga. (R)
Jeffrey Sprecher, Sen. Kelly Loeffler’s husband, founder, chairman, and CEO of Intercontinental Exchange, and chairman of the New York Stock Exchange! (R)

Why no talk of them being arrested?

I know more evidence is needed beforean actual arrest, but a little talk would sure put some distance to the idea that senators don't have to follow the law.
