Race, lets make this serious! It is nearly 2013.

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

'Cancel culture': Supreme Court rejects case on dust-up between Catholic student and Native American

WASHINGTON − The Supreme Court on Monday declined to hear the case of a former Kentucky high school student and supporter of Donald Trump who said he'd been the victim of "cancel culture" after a video of his interaction with an elderly Native American man went viral in 2019.

That decision leaves in place a lower court's dismissal of a massive libel lawsuit filed by Nicholas Sandmann against Gannett, the parent company of USA TODAY, and other media organizations for their coverage of the incident.

Sandmann argued he was defamed by their reports on his confrontation with Native American rights activist Nathan Phillips at the Lincoln Memorial in January 2019....

Some clueless people believe that the past should be judged by standards.
"Current" standards, I'm assuming?
Yeah, and it's way past annoying....
Rochester to change name of downtown park, shed 'undeserved and racist histories'

As Charles Carroll Park gets a new look as part of the planned overhaul at the waterfront, it will also get a new identity — one the mayor says is more fitting of the city and its diverse history.

Mayor Malik D. Evans announced Wednesday night during the "state of the city" address that officials would rename the park, a move first endorsed in 2021 by a City Council vote.

"We’re shedding old, antiquated, and in this case, undeserved and racist histories," he said. "Charles Carroll was not a Rochesterian, and is not a figure we choose to continue to commemorate."

Evans said the downtown park along the Genesee River will be changed to Austin Steward Plaza, who he identified as the city's first prominent Black business owner.

"An entrepreneur who not only gained freedom from slavery, but opened a successful business, operated the first school for Black children in Rochester, and wrote his memoir, Twenty-two Years a Slave and Forty Years a Freeman," the mayor said. "That’s the history we need to celebrate. That’s the mindset we want to lift up and let it serve as inspiration."

Charles Carroll was born into one of the wealthies families in America in 1767. The Maryland family owned over 1,000 people in slavery, deriving much of their money and influence from the work of these individuals, according to historical research.

He was one of three men who would be credited with founding what would become Rochester with their land purchase in the Genesee Valley. The men, all from Maryland, were said to have brought slaves with them to New York when they settled here....
So, slavery was still legal even in NY, but one truth abides - The "accomplishments" of slavers were not their own but rather the product of the souls they enslaved. There's nothing to honor in that. Congrats, Austin Steward Plaza - "he would also become an antislavery activist" - you waited too long.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/pro-palestin ... 46669.html

Good Ole Miss, same as it ever was:
... Videos of the protest posted on social media show the larger crowd, of about 200 seemingly mostly white young people, surrounding and shouting down the multi-racial group of between 30 and 60 pro-Palestinian protesters.

Another video showed the counterprotesters singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” to drown out the chants from the pro-Palestinian protesters, while yet another video showed a large crowd of men, including two male students who appear to be white, in American flag overalls, yelling in the direction of a Black female graduate student. In the video, the woman appears to be walking toward the crowd while recording them on her phone.

Image
(Is that a 2024 MAGAt flag?)

... On the right side of the frame, another man can be seen jumping up and down and appearing to make a noise to simulate an ape. That person has not been identified....

The racial elements of the encounter led many observers online to point out Mississippi’s long and storied history of violent racism against Black people. Its senators voted to send all of its Black people back to Africa more than 100 years ago. When the university was ordered by a federal court to admit Black students in 1962, 2,000 white people rioted against the arrival of new student James Meredith....

More White supremacist backlash:
Virginia school board votes to restore names of Confederate leaders to schools

The school board in Shenandoah County, Virginia, early Friday approved a proposal that will restore the names of Confederate military leaders to two public schools.

The measure, which passed 5-1, reverses a previous board’s decision in 2020 to change the names of schools that had been linked to Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee and Turner Ashby, three men who led the pro-slavery Southern states during the Civil War....

Mike Johnson Embraces Racist Conspiracy Theory Loved by Mass Shooters
The House speaker is openly embracing the “great replacement” theory.

... The theory has been cited by several mass shooters, notably the man who murdered 10 people at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York, two years ago and a shooter who killed 20 at an El Paso Walmart in 2019. And Johnson is not the first conservative to parrot this kind of bigotry. Every so often, right-wing influencers like to bring it up, particularly during election years, causing like-minded politicians to quickly repost it. TV host Tucker Carlson has helped fuel it, and members of Congress like Representatives Elise Stefanik and Matt Gaetz, as well as Senator J.D. Vance, have all repeated it. Recently, Elon Musk has amplified the theory to his millions of followers on X (formerly Twitter)....

It’s telling that Johnson has mentioned this theory at a time when his party is in disarray and as he’s trying to shore up support from the far right with an eye on November. Today’s leaders of the Republican Party think that racist immigration stances are the way to political victory, even though that’s been thoroughly disproven.

Clarence Thomas Is a Big Fan of Racial Gerrymandering
In a Supreme Court decision siding with South Carolina Republicans, the right-wing justice took the opportunity to attack landmark civil rights rulings that protected Black voters’ political representation.

The Supreme Court just made it far more difficult to challenge racial gerrymandering by state legislatures. In a 6–3 decision on Thursday that fell along the usual lines, the justices rejected a challenge to a district that was redrawn to favor Republican candidates. But one right-wing justice took the opportunity to go even further, suggesting that the federal courts, including the high court, should not even consider gerrymandering cases in the future. That would have disastrous consequences for Black voters in the South....
Uncle Thomas even attacks Brown v. Board of Education.

Black passengers sue American Airlines, alleging racial discrimination

Three passengers are suing American Airlines after alleging employees from the company removed a total of eight Black men from a flight due to a complaint about a passenger with body odor.

The lawsuit, filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, claims that as American Airlines Flight 832 from Phoenix to New York was boarding in January, American Airlines employees removed eight Black men from the plane allegedly over a complaint about "offensive body odor."

Video central to the lawsuit displayed a group of Black men who were not traveling together and did not know each other being removed from the flight. According to the suit, they were the only Black passengers on the flight.

... The lawsuit alleges that an American Airlines employee indicated that the complaint about body odor came from a "white male flight attendant."...

Random thoughts:
Why don't these people understand that history can be taught, remembered, yet not honored?

Is everything and anything your ancestors did a part of your "heritage" to be honored? Suppose your ancestor was a murdering raping kid-diddler; would you put up a statue?

Name any other country that allows statues of insurgents attempting to defeat the legitimate government.

Top Nevada Republican calls Black Democrat a 'hood rat' in 'hateful' social rant

... Nevada RNC Committeewoman Sigal Chattah took to social media Tuesday as New Yorkers took to the polls for a hotly contested and highly funded primary that could cost incumbent Rep. Jamaal Bowman his congressional seat.

"This antisemitic ghetto rat that was dropping F bombs on stage at a rally last week living high off the teat of the government and whatever shakedowns they can make? We got some of those in Nevada too. Amazingly, they’re all democrats," she wrote.

Chattel, apparently unconvinced her message had been received, ranted against Bowman again in a follow-up post.

"I hope New York Dems send this hood rat back to wherever he came from," she added. "There’s no Section 8 housing in the House of Representatives-and New Yorkers should stop sending their DEI hires there."

... Chattah, an Israeli-born attorney who previously served on the Las Vegas Planning Commission, saw her 2022 bid for state attorney general derailed by scandal after leaked messages of her appearing to endorse the hanging of her Black opponent.

“This guy should be hanging from a [expletive] crane,” she wrote to a friend, who later leaked the message to sabotage her campaign....
This is the decade that shame died.
Chattah's messaging Tuesday was met with swift backlash from outraged readers who condemned her comments.

"Your racism is about a subtle as a brick through a window," replied X user Shawn Foss. "Just disgusting bigotry that should have no place in our politics/govt."

"What a disgusting racist thing to post," added X user Wavey Shore. "Shame on you."

Some may be, but I'm not surprised Bowman lost. I'm somewhat familiar with the area of his District from when I was doing work for the MetroNorth railway. He may not have looked into how many Jewish voters he (would have) had if he hadn't bashed Israel so hard. Also, I only saw the candidates a couple of times on TV: one looked/sounded like a member of Congress; the other was an incumbent.

Actually a bad night for extremist candidates on both sides, a couple of ultra MAGA candidates lost also.

An aberration or start of a trend?
