2024 Elections

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Guess you can't blame any of them for playing the game and playing it well.
I can blame them for playing it dirty. I get the whole war analogy, but I think Schiff is fighting a battle he has won while sparking resentment among Dems for years and cynicism among average voters. He is bad for democracy and that's a war loss.
It's the game that sucks.
In many ways, but the game does not force front runners to be sleazy :puke-left:
BTW, what could Steve Garvey possibly be thinking?

Trying to be Oz or Herschel in an open primary, in California?

C'mon man.
He was recruited, offered something to make being a loser worthwhile, perhaps even gaining name recognition for a wannabe-pol child or somehow boosting their business interests. A lot of people are learning of him for the first time or are being reminded after decades of obscurity.

Maybe the feds are closing in on him and he's hoping to earn a TRE45QN pardon
The game IS dirty. I'm not sure I blame him, if he wins all will be forgotten in six years until it's repeated.

Plausible Garvey theories.

I'm not talking about next election. It can make a big difference for a pol to have friends in low places, and Porter's reach extends far from CA. It's worthwhile for she and her fans to think she lost an honorable primary or general. Think Hillary and the DNC. Many of us didn't and won't forgive her and Debbie W-S for that sleaze.

Editing. I THINK Dolt .45 agreed that Biden is more predictable. This was really Putin's clumsy attempt to support TRE45QN in Nov by pretending to support Biden.

South Carolina Results
63% of results in
Donald Trump 60.7% 294,692
Nikki Haley 38.7% 187,961
Other candidates 0.6%

I thought that a 30 point margin was predicted. Is a 22 point margin a "win"?

Maybe a win for the rest of us, trump gets all the delegates but the polls have been consistently wrong.

IF they really mean it and are not just trying to send a message that they will renege on in Nov, 39.5% x 59% = 23% of total voters. Probably not enough to flip SC, but might be a big deal in some swing states, discounted by the much fewer number of Dems that can't stomach voting for Joltin' Joe.

:laughing-rolling: NC6 RepuQ primary is a duel between guys whose endorsers are reneging or who never endorsed in the first place. Flip-floppers and LIARS = Modern GQP.

... Pundit: If Joe lost 40% or more of the vote in a state the media would be shrieking about how shaky his campaign is. Dolt .45 has now done that 3 times - Iowa, NH, SC, to an Asian woman!, yet the media praises the strength of his 20-points or less wins :angry-banghead:
I listened to an MSM report that essentially echoed this NPR article:

The push to vote 'uncommitted' to Biden in Michigan exceeds goal
Biden ● 81.1% 617,728
Uncommitted 13.3% 100,960
Williamson 3.0% 22,797
Phillips 2.7% 20,449

A maxim I learned long ago is that a non-front runner or group of them will always take 20%. Joe did fine.
Ftr, I would have been one of those Gaza-focused Uncommitted if I chose a Dem ballot.

Donald Trump 68.2% 755,909
Nikki Haley 26.5% 294,334
Uncommitted 3.0% 33,373
Ron DeSantis 1.2% 13,373 (Haha, LOSERS, fewer than Uncommitted)
Other candidates 1.1% 11,921
https://apps.npr.org/primary-election-r ... true&state

Yet that very same MSM report called it a "landslide" for TRE45QN, an adjective not used for Joltin' Joe.

Democrats target statehouse races in first big campaign spend of 2024
‘Critical resources’ on way to draw contrasts with Republicans tied to Trump and to hammer home reproductive rights

Image
Abortion-rights protesters at a rally outside the state capitol in Lansing, Michigan, on 24 June 2022.

Democrats are targeting seven battlegrounds in their first campaign spend of the year on state legislature elections, the Guardian has learned, and intend to draw “clear contrasts” with Republican candidates tied to former US president Donald Trump.

The latest round of investments will deliver “critical resources” to Arizona, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) said.
Based solely on the headline I was going to share this article. It's about time that Dems focused on these races the way Repugs have for years.

I'm especially thrilled that North Carolina is one of the targets. A Dem majority would be great, but I'll even settle for making vetoes by Gov Josh Stein (fingers crossed) withstand override attempts.
... Once seen by outsiders as sleepy backwaters, state legislative chambers have come into sharp focus in recent years because of their role in curbing reproductive freedoms, imposing book bans, assailing transgender rights and making it harder to vote.
Gerrymandering, too.
With Trump dominating the presidential primary and all but certain to be the party nominee, some Republicans running for seats in swing states may try to distance themselves from a man seen as toxic among moderates and independents. Democrats, however, intend to hitch them to Trump at every opportunity.

... An “umbrella of freedom” that includes access to abortion, IVF and contraceptives, as well as democratic participation and gun safety, will be a central campaign theme. “Those conversations are rich and they are happening at the door. They were certainly a part of the elections in 2023 and we expect them to continue to be a conversation in 2024.”
I'm glad that anti-gun campaigning is finally seen as a winning strategy.

I'm pretty sure that your disappeared tweet was about:

Trump is disqualified from Illinois ballot, judge rules

I hope you're considering writing your approval to Cook County Circuit Judge Tracie Porter and Free Speech For People.

It actually helps these folks out if they can honestly point to support from __,000 Illins. Plus, it just makes them feel good about their brave public service.

I think it's pretty safe to count swing state Michigan's electoral votes for Joltin' Joe, and I'll predict that many down ballot races will go to the Dems.

Let's call him Rep Adam Schiffty.

Nikki Haley wins DC primary, first victory for campaign

... Haley carried nearly 63 percent of the vote, according to D.C. party officials....

“This universe is a little more sophisticated than just about any universe in any other state,” said Patrick Mara, chair of the D.C. Republican Party. “I listen to the political podcasts in the morning. I read the newsletters throughout the day. That’s probably, like, half the people showing up at this.”

Dan Schuberth, who runs a trade association in downtown D.C. and supported Haley in the primary, described his fellow D.C. Republicans as “a pretty unique electorate,” perhaps the only in the country where many of the voters personally know the people working on one or both of the campaigns.

“You've got a really dialed-in political class,” Schuberth said of the Republicans voting this weekend. “You know, folks read POLITICO. They read The Hill. Folks here are reading the Washington Post.”

... “This is a more moderate area,” said Dennis Paul, a retiree who has been a registered D.C. Republican his entire adult life. “And I think people here think a little bit more rationally.”
:---P TRE45QN is detested where his own party knows him so well, yet this is where he wants to make his home for 4 years
... Haley had one win to celebrate on the spot, though — the support of Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine), who said she cast her ballot for the former U.N. ambassador.

“When all the fellas are following the herd, she showed why she’s got a steel spine,” Haley said, adding later: “Thank you for showing the fellas that you’ve got more balls than them.”
'Sackless Dolt .45' seems to be a recurring theme among Repub opponents.

Donald Trump's 'Pathetic' Excuse For D.C. Primary Loss To Haley Is Mercilessly Mocked
The former president raised eyebrows with his ranting reason for the defeat.

The excuses are indeed pathetic
YOU CAN'T HANDLE LOSS, TRUMP!
Looks like Nikki finally drew a little blood.
God MAGA, how can you not realize how pathetic this bully is?
Excellent question.
:---P for all.
