The Science Thread!

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Ha! Pretty cool, -- and scary. I didn't notice it right off either even knowing the title of the story.
I initially missed it too, partially because they said it was in the upper right hand portion, and on CT scans right and left are reversed (like looking at a cross section from the feet up) so that the right lung is the one with the small nodule.

The video of the basketball players was even more embarassing.

I probably won't be around to see it, but it is cool, nevertheless.

Reminds me of one of the early GE Home of The Future/World of Tomorrow attractions at Walt Disney World
I didn't see anywhere that it told what planet that was filmed on; however, assuming it's Earth, in looking just at the family, they're on one hellacious pay-scale just to be able to make payments on their extravagance, or they're so far in debt they'll both have to work until they're in their 90's before they can retire! Given the futuristic technology shown, they must have had their 50 year old car and refrigerator retrofitted. Gotta love rechnology. Thanks wneglia!

I found the gorilla in the first pic, but made a somewhat conscious effort to "concentrate on the basketballs" to see if I could miss the other gorilla. Not exactly, but close enough the point was well made. That ties in also with the studies that have been done on people not seeing what they don't expect to see. Like, "that looked like a gorilla...naw, couldn't have been a gorilla - there's no gorillas running around here." (Otherwise entitled, "Why Eyewitnesses Are Often Worthless.")

Q: What did one photon say to the other photon?
A: I'm sick and tired of your interference.

This guy makes understanding the basic interaction of subatomic particles incredibly straight forward! It's also really easy to see why "nothing" is an unstable and temporary state.

And we were taught they ate turkey.....a cover-up? Who do we blame for this gross miscarriage of information?
