Stop the War on Marijuana

There's a new bill in Congress to legalize marijuana under federal law – and reduce the injustices of the War on Drugs. We need your help to make sure it becomes law. Tell your members of Congress to support the Marijuana Justice Act and reform our broken criminal justice system.

Marijuana becomes legal Canada-wide on July 1st. (Canada Day!)

But it can be grown only by licensed producers*, and sold only at government licensed retailers.

* The federal legislations allows householders to grow up to four cannabis plants at a time. No tax would be charged. But the provinces can make minor changes to the rules and some provinces are letting the municipalities decide. So Quebec and possibly others aren't allowing home growing.

Nah. Grow-ops (granted, with more than four plants) destroy houses. If this has any effect, it'll be that the value of houses without mold problems will go up.

The sheer number of houses, condos and rentals turned over to AirBnB style operations has been enough to raise housing prices in some cities. Homes turned over to grow-ops, if that happened in significant numbers, would have the same effect.

The impending legalization of marijuana Canada-wide is having some side-effects. The government is trying to clear up some grey areas regarding impairment.
Another side-effect: 420 event organizers are being told to get permits and insurance.

420 events were protests. People expressing free speech. Society accepts that protests tend to break the rules and have little formal organization.

But with pot being legalized it becomes a festival, not a protest.

Where weed will be on the ballot in 2018

Even in the Trump era, America’s green rush continues apace.

Three states — Michigan, Utah and Oklahoma — will hold referendums in 2018 on the legalization of marijuana for recreational and medical use, continuing a nationwide trend of acceptance of the drug.

Over the past decade, American support for marijuana legalization has steadily increased. Recent polling shows that the percentage of U.S. adults who support its legalization is now nearly twice what it was in 2000.

In a January poll, the Pew Research Center found that roughly six in 10 Americans (61 percent) think cannabis should be legalized for recreational use by adults. Nearly two decades ago, only 31 percent of Americans supported making recreational weed legal. With this change of perspective came a series of changes to state laws. Colorado and Washington became the first states to legalize marijuana for recreational use in 2012; seven states and Washington, D.C., followed their lead. In addition, marijuana has also been legally approved for medicinal use in 29 states, and it’s been decriminalized (though not legalized) in 13....

Children are one of the 'War on Drugs' casualties

Better to Ask Forgiveness Than Permission: What the Rest of the World Can Learn From Spain’s (and Portugal's) Approaches to Drug Policy (article)

The movement for drug policy reform is a global one – and it has become increasingly important to look at what other countries are doing on drug policy to see what can be learned. Portugal’s decriminalization model and Switzerland’s pioneering role in heroin-assisted treatment have been studied extensively, and there’s an emerging field of promising research evaluating state-level cannabis legalization in the U.S.

Overlooked in this discussion is Spain, where certain sub-national entities (similar to states in the U.S.) have implemented innovative approaches to drug policy based on the principles of harm reduction and a rejection of prohibitionist principles.

A new report, released today, takes a deep dive into Spain’s drug policy reform. What makes these reforms interesting is that they’ve succeeded in spite of the central government, not because of it – an approach that we call “better to ask forgiveness than ask permission”....

Congress Is Trying to Make It Easier for Jeff Sessions and the DEA to Outlaw Any Drug They Want

UPDATE (6/15/18): The House passed the SITSA Act 239-142. We’re disappointed to lose this vote but confident we can stop the Senate from moving the bill. Thanks to all who helped! Stay tuned for more updates and ways to take action.

There are a lot of problems about the way the United States decides whether to make drugs illegal or not. Unfortunately, it may be about to get worse.

The House of Representatives is about to vote on a bill that, if it passes, would give the DEA and Justice Department nearly unilateral power to make any new substance illegal – without checking with any scientists or health officials at all....
Science? Health? We're the DoJ, DEA, the prison-industrial complex welfare queens and other drug warriors, we don't need no stinkin' science or health.

Take Action.

Another Needless Death in the Absurd War on Marijuana

... When all was said and done, the state police found 10 marijuana plants. The obvious question is whether the discovery of a small marijuana grow should have prompted the deployment of a police helicopter and the use of a bulldozer to pursue an unarmed suspect who didn’t present imminent harm to anyone, especially in a state with liberalizing marijuana laws. The answer clearly should be no....

"Psychedelics are a class of drug whose primary action is to trigger psychedelic experiences via serotonin receptor **agonism, causing thought and visual/auditory changes, and altered state of consciousness"

**agonism: Agonism (from Greek ἀγών agon, "struggle") is a political theory that emphasizes the potentially positive aspects of certain (but not all) forms of political conflict. It accepts a permanent place for such conflict, but seeks to show how people might accept and channel this positively. For this reason, agonists are especially concerned with debates about democracy.

hee hee! By this description and definition, you're already an addicted psycho-delic!
