I'm skeptical of all war reporting from either side. Consider this a blanket disclaimer.

True that. Back in my day, the Israelis would sent 6 helicopters across to taunt Jordan, Jordan would shoot down two and claim 4. Israel would claim it didn't lose any. I think lying is the common and expected practice in all things war.

Ukrainian artillery blows Russian mortar to pieces near Dnipro river

Good news if accurate:
Humiliation for Putin’s ‘Unstoppable’ Superweapons Blasted Out of Sky by U.S. Defense System

Russian officials must be reeling in utter disbelief after Ukraine claimed six of their most sophisticated (hypersonic) missiles were blasted out of the sky in an incredible night of drama over Kyiv....

In one of the most intense aerial assaults on the capital since the war began, Ukrainian air defenses took down 18 missiles that were targeting the city.

The night sky over Kyiv was rocked by explosions as the newly-arrived (US) Patriot missile defense system responded to an unprecedented, coordinated barrage of missiles.

Six of the highly acclaimed Kh-47 missiles were launched from MiG-31K aircraft, three cruise missiles were fired from land, and a further nine Kalibr cruise missiles were launched from the Black Sea....
Time to take out more Russian warships.

A Loud GOP Minority Pledges to Make Trouble on Ukraine Military Aid

... But some well-known Democratic anti-war voices reject the parallel between invading Afghanistan and Iraq and lending military assistance to Ukraine. Among them is Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Calif., whom Gaetz now describes as a “folk hero” for casting the lone vote against authorizing President George W. Bush to use military force after the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Lee, who received death threats after that vote, said that in Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, “we see a dictatorship invading a democracy. And we need to be on the side of democracy. Whenever you see innocent people being killed by a war criminal, you want to do what you can to support them.” ...

Who knew? Putin and Dolt .45 shared geography "education".

Putin claimed a 400-year-old map proved Ukraine isn't a real country, not noticing it has 'Ukraine' written on it

Oddly, Putin will not now be admitting that the map he cited proves that he's been wrong all along.

Watch Ukraine's 'Kamikaze Drones' Slam Into Trucks, Tanks, Other Drones

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Qi6W7tfV10

... As noted by Business Insider, a report from the UK-based think tank Royal United Services Institute claims Ukraine uses up approximately 10,000 drones a month, thanks in part to Russia’s anti-drone systems....

Drone warfare is evolving, and it seems a new, effective tactic around diving unmanned aerial devices is becoming more ubiquitous. The U.S. is reportedly working on creating programs for flocks of AI-driven drones that could overwhelm air defenses or attack ground targets. These drones could also pack explosives or munitions, and experts have said that the war in Ukraine has led to further weaponization of semi-autonomous vehicles.

The Ukrainian govt figure for Russian combat losses (killed or killed and injured) IS "~211150+800 Military personnel". This compares with ~100K Ukrainian soldiers according to some. Fog of war, of course, but I don't think that anyone is estimating only 20,000 Russian casualties.

I read "losses" as deaths

Yeah, I'm seeing 20,000+ since December.

Although important, I haven't been keeping up, so everything's a surprise whenever I take a peek.

Russian and other forces (VSRF, Rosgvardiya, FSB, PMC Wagner, DPR & LPR)

185,000 killed, 555,000 wounded, 24 February 2022 – 11 May 2023, Ukrainian officials
209,940 losses, 24 February 2022 – 4 June 2023, Ukrainian government
The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine uses the terms "combat losses" and "liquidated". According to the BBC, these figures include wounded soldiers, while others interpret the figures to be referring to only those killed.

"since December" isn't even half of the war. The Ukrayinska Pravda banner claim is for "Total combat losses of the Russian forces for day 468".

There are wide ranges for confirmed vs estimated.

“God is not averse to deceit in a just cause.”
-- Aeschylus, Greek playwright (c. 525/524 – c. 456/455 BC)

Among the calamities of War may be justly numbered the diminution of the love of truth, by the falsehoods which interest dictates and credulity encourages.
-- Samuel Johnson, lexicographer, 1758

The way the news from the seat of war is stated one day, reiterated the next day and “authoritatively contradicted” the day following forcibly illustrates the fact that truth often takes slow trains in war times and arrives at the station much behind time.
-- “The Christian Work and The Evangelist”, 1904

In the lists of casualties of this war, Truth occupies a conspicuous place.
-- “The Albany Evening Journal”, anonymous “Miscellaneous Remarks”, 1914

Several sources then anonymously attribute “Truth is the first casualty in war,” and variants follow.
