Pubs work on plans to outright steal next election.

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

It may have just been his schtick for a while, but the man is truly rubber room ready at this point.

Overall, it's been a pretty good day. Trump figuratively perp-walked, Pat Robertson dead, Voters Rights somehow magically upheld, beautiful day all round.
Supreme court orders Louisiana to draw another majority-black congressional district

The supreme court has just ordered Louisiana to draw another majority Black congressional district, after earlier this month striking down congressional maps in Alabama that the justices found discriminated against African-American voters.

CNN reports that the justices, with no dissents noted, lifted a hold placed on an order from a lower court that told the state to redraw its maps. Despite a third of its population being African American, the Republican-dominated legislature in the state last year approved a map that includes only one majority Black district (out of 7).
:---P :happy-cheerleaderkid:
While the court has now struck down both Alabama and Louisiana’s maps for not properly representing their Black populations, the justices had allowed those states’ maps to remain in effect for the 2022 midterm elections.
:angry-cussing: Control of the House was sooo close.
Majority Black districts tend to lean Democratic, and CNN supreme court analyst Steve Vladeck said the court’s decision, along with its lack of an explanation for the move, raises questions about the court’s intentions.

“Like the Alabama ruling, it doesn’t explain why the court nevertheless had issued emergency relief to allow Louisiana to use its unlawful maps during the 2022 midterm cycle,” he said. “It puts the court’s interventions last year into ever-sharper perspective.”

Trump supporter faces voter fraud charges, following ironic pattern

Even as Republican conspiracy theories in support of Donald Trump's big lie about voter fraud and a stolen election have fallen apart and been debunked, actual individual instances of voter fraud appear to have mostly involved Trump voters. That pattern continued with an Ohio Trump supporter who is accused of voting twice two times.

GOP State Rep. Arrested On Voter Fraud Charge
Alabama legislator David Cole, a doctor and Army veteran, is accused of voting in a district where he did not live.

... Republican Rep. David Cole of Huntsville was arrested on charges of voting in an unauthorized location, according to Madison County Jail records....

Voter fraud is a Class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison....

Elijah Boyd, the Libertarian candidate in the district, had filed an election challenge in civil court, arguing Cole did not live in District 10 and was not eligible to represent the district.

‘A crime on every citizen:’ Shaker Heights lawyer who donated to Trump headed to prison in election fraud case

Image
James Saunders, in orange, listens as Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge Andrew Santoli sentences him to three years in prison for illegally voting in both Ohio and Florida in the 2020 and 2022 general elections.

A judge on Monday sentenced a Shaker Heights attorney to three years in prison for illegally voting in the last two general elections.

Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Andrew Santoli called 56-year-old James Saunders’ actions “purposeful, intentional and cavalier” in handing down the maximum sentence. Santoli also fined Saunders $10,000.

“You violated a fundamental right of this country that every person speaks with one vote and one voice,” Santoli said. “I can think of no greater crime of a felony of the fourth degree than a crime perpetuated against every single person in this country.”
:---P
... According to federal campaign finance filings, Saunders made multiple small donations to former President Donald Trump’s campaign and super PACs that back GOP candidates.
Filthy MAGAt.
... Santoli found Saunders guilty of two felony counts of election fraud last week following a one-day trial held in July. Three witnesses -- elections officials from Cuyahoga County and Broward County, Florida, and an Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations agent who examined the case -- testified that Saunders cast ballots in Florida and Ohio in each election.
So, Florida is involved. Maybe they agreed to let Ohio take the lead, or maybe they will charge him later. Is it double jeopardy if Florida prosecutes? -0-?
Records showed that Saunders also illegally voted twice in the 2014 and 2016 general elections, but prosecutors said they could not charge him for those votes because the statute of limitations had passed.
Filthy pre-MAGAt Repug.
Santoli also ordered Saunders to repay the Cuyahoga County public defenders for their representation of him. Saunders, whose attorneys said enjoyed “a life of wealth and privilege” and lived off money his parents left to him in a trust fund, did not qualify for a taxpayer-funded lawyer.

Saunders applied to be represented by a public defender and filled out forms that said he earned $2,800 a month from the trust fund and had less than $5,000 in cash available to him. Cuyahoga County Public Defender Cullen Sweeney said in response to a question from Santoli that the office did not seek bank statements or other financial proof from Saunders before the office agreed to take the case.

Saunders told Sweeney during the hearing that he earned a salary of about $135,000 per year in the eight years he worked for the IRS, before leaving the workforce in 2018 and living off the trust fund.

The assistant public defender who represented Saunders at trial, Roger Scott Hurley, told Santoli that Saunders’ father worked for BP in London and married his mother, a chemist, and moved the family to Cleveland to work at what was then the company’s U.S. headquarters in downtown.

Hurley said Saunders had become accustomed to a life of “affluence and privilege” and that, after both of his parents passed away in the previous decade, he sought to maintain that lifestyle that included having residences in multiple states. That may have led to a “psychological split” that gave Saunders the belief that he had the right to vote in both Ohio and Florida, Hurley argued....

Louisiana must draw new congressional map by mid-January for 2024 elections
Deadline comes after federal court ruled that state’s current map disfranchises Black voters – one-third of the state’s population

... A conservative federal appeals court in New Orleans issued the deadline on Friday. According to the order, if the state legislature doesn’t pass a new map by the deadline, then a lower district court should conduct a trial and develop a plan for the 2024 elections....

Black voters in Louisiana represent about one-third of the state’s population, but currently represent a majority in just one out of six congressional districts in the state.

Republicans have argued the current map is fair, with Democrats arguing the districts discriminate against Black voters in the state.

A lower court in June 2022 struck down Louisiana’s current congressional map. The court ruled that the map violated the Voting Rights Act and ordered a new map to be drawn that includes a second congressional district with a majority of Black voters....

US House representative Troy Carter of New Orleans, Louisiana’s sole Black and Democratic member of Congress, said he “sincerely” hopes the state’s legislature will draw a new map with a second majority-Black district. Carter posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, to urge lawmakers to “do the right thing” and said “there is no need to wait for a court to force compliance with clear law”....

I volunteer Louisiana's 4th congressional district for this fix. It's currently represented by SINO Mike Johnson the johnson.

Teah, I read about this earlier today. What a bunch of shit. I sure think it's funny that the party of "election integrity" continually tries to manipulate the process in their favor. And how trump constantly whines that his criminal charges and trials are "election interference" when two of his criminal trials only exist because of his own election interference. And the cult gushes in awe.

Yeah, I don't see how putting an extra obstacle in front of a voting rights group or a citizen helps stop election malfeasance. In looking at what the GQP keeps doing, one comes to the conclusion that they don't want fair elections or "election integrity" as they constantly whine about.

Exactly.

Voter fraud, it's almost always RepuQs:
