2023 Impeachments

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

2023 Impeachments

Unread post by billy.pilgrim »

Who will be investigated, who will be impeached and when will they start?

https://www.axios.com/2023/01/08/mayork ... ent-threat

November 22 warm up
"House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Tuesday threatened a potential “impeachment inquiry” into Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over his handling of the U.S.-Mexico border if the Biden administration official does not resign."
Trump: “We had the safest border in the history of our country - or at least recorded history. I guess maybe a thousand years ago it was even better.”

We should start impeachment bingo.

They're going to go after someone just so they can gloat and pound their chests that they did and our holding the dems accountable.

It'll probably low hanging fruit and they won't be successful.

Bring on the 2024 campaign.

No doubt impeachment resolutions will be filed, possibly by the dozen, but with the thin majority margin of misfits and miscreants McCarthy has to work with, getting it out of the House won't be automatic. And then all of them would face instant death and ridicule in the Senate.

I see more payback for trump's Impeachment. Biden could be subject to a Clinton level investigation over some nonexistent Hunter issue (similar to the bs Whitewater conspiracy theories) by a rabid prosecutor able to use a 100 million dollar budget to turn a miniscule nothing burger into 2 years of daily Breaking News.

And then comes the 24 campaign.

Goddamn, I just can't find the optimism anymore.

As did Clinton, but the dems were damaged. Can you imagine the Gore landslide if Clinton's Impeachment had never happened and he had campaigned?

Sad that impeachment is now becoming a political tool.

Don't they see everything about government as a political tool?

It's certainly not about the benefit of the citizenry.

I'll vote for zero impeachments no matter how many are targeted. After the midterms and Speakership fiascos enough RepuQs will want to stop the GQP from bleeding so much stupid. It only takes five.

Will this be the first?

Biden Lawyers Found Classified Material at His Former Office https://nyti.ms/3CBf0h7

"Senior Justice Department officials have assigned John R. Lausch Jr., the U.S. attorney in Chicago who was appointed by former President Donald J. Trump, to look into the matter, according to two people familiar with the decision, confirming a CBS News report. Mr. Lausch has been scrutinizing the situation since November, according to one of the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter."'

"With Mr. Lausch investigating Mr. Biden’s handling of classified information, and David Weiss, the U.S. attorney in Delaware, investigating the president’s son, Hunter Biden, both Trump-appointed U.S. attorneys who have remained at the department are now scrutinizing the Biden family.

Proof that Garland’s doj can move when they want to move, or is it when there's a dem to be prosecuted?

Doesn't really matter what DOJ does or doesn't do.

The RWNJ's will try to impeach.

Supposedly a sitting POTUS can't be prosecuted -0-? . I'd also wonder about the statute of limitations.

Perhaps not on this issue since it would be an admission that Dolt .45 is a criminal.

Nah, as president trump could and did declassify everything, therefore he's innocent
( :shhh: on the obstruction thingy).

Biden had no authority. Guilty.

Yep, that's how it could go. Similar to the white people exclusion from leo harassment.

Interesting that maga Merrick couldn't find the time to follow up on the Archives findings against trump, or look into any of trump's other crimes, but jumped right on this. Now Biden is stuck with him even if he wanted to replace him.

Hasn't it all been referred to Jack Smith?

True
Also true that Trump wasn’t investigated or referred to anyone for over a year.

Is anyone else sick and tired of seeing headlines like "Georgia Grand Jury Work Ends" and yet no action. Or "Trump's really in trouble this time" yet it's all same ol' same ol'. I might start to agree with billy.p that Garland is either in cahoots with Trump or the most incompetent lawyer ever, but it's not just him. State-level investigations drag to a slow death. Can EVERYBODY be in cahoots or incompetent? You've got a guy who flouts the law at every turn, openly and proudly, who can't hire any good lawyers, and who, in most cases doesn't even offer a defence and you can't indict/charge him with SOMETHING? I dunno, no rational earthly answer works - maybe Trump really is the Devil. He's at least got the part down where people sell him their souls. And he's been to Georgia. And he's clearly evil. Where's the Exorcist when you need one?

"The wheels of justice turn slowly."

But, c'mon.

Long and short is they're skeered, maybe to the point of paralysis. There is a risk despite overwhelming evidence that finding an unbiased jury may not be possible and rather than damning the torpedoes and doing the right thing they'll continue to pass the ball.

If that's the case, we're not a nation of laws.

Sadly, I think that's true with no doubt. Just because there are laws doesn't mean that we're really a nation where the law is above all individuals. It clearly isn't. It's not just Trump, but the entire system is rife with inequities and abuse - and not only in individual cases but systemically.
