Legislation that would end BRD....

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

... The Act was reintroduced by Lindsey Graham in April 2023 to the 118th Congress.

Please reject the unconstitutional and oppressive EARN IT Act (S. 3398).

Response from Senator Tillis

Dear (Vrede too):

Thank you for taking the time to contact me about S. 1207, the Eliminating Abusive and Rampant Neglect of Interactive Technologies (EARN IT) Act of 2023, legislation I am proud to support. I appreciate hearing from you.

Keeping our children safe online must be a top priority. Children should not have to live in a society where horrors like abuse and neglect, or human and sex trafficking take place. Those who commit crimes against children should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. Victims of these crimes should be supported by just and meaningful legislation to protect them from future abuse and violence.

On May 4, 2023, the Senate Judiciary Committee held a markup on the EARN IT Act and unanimously voted to pass the legislation out of committee. As a co-sponsor of the bill, I was proud to vote for it in committee, and I look forward to seeing the EARN IT Act brought before the full Senate for a final vote.

During my time in public service, I have been an advocate for victims of abuse and violence. For example, I was a proud co-sponsor of the Amy, Vicky, and Andy Child Pornography Victim Assistance Act, which was signed into law on December 7, 2018. This bipartisan law recognizes the unique kind of harm caused by child pornography and requires restitution in a manner that will support victims.

Last Congress, I was proud to co-sponsor S. 611, the VOCA Fix to Sustain the Crime Victims Fund Act of 2021, which was signed into law. The VOCA Fix Act is a bipartisan law that ensures victim service providers in North Carolina and nationwide have the resources to assist victims in need. The VOCA Fix Act will help stabilize funding for crime victims by directing criminal settlements from federal non-prosecution and deferred prosecution agreements into the Crimes Victims Fund.

This Congress, I am a cosponsor of S. 347, the ANTI-SOCIAL CCP Act, which would protect Americans by blocking and prohibiting transactions from any social media company in, or under the influence of, China, Russia, and several other foreign countries of concern. This legislation would ensure our children’s information is not being mined by foreign adversaries.

Please know that I will continue to work in a bipartisan manner to enact laws that protect children and ensure that child abusers and human traffickers are prosecuted.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact me. Please do not hesitate to contact me again about other important issues.

Sincerely,
Thom Tillis
U.S. Senator (R-NC)

Don'tsha just love the way politicians make some wide-sweeping statement that practically nobody would disagree with and then proceed on to propose/support something that would have little or no impact.

Sure - so give us something that actually does that without infringing on adult rights.

Different issue, but one that could have also shut BRD down:

Supreme Court rules Google and Twitter not liable for terrorist content

Phew, you're safe when that day we've all been anticipating arrives - O Really goes nuts with an AR-15 "redneck" mudfest.
