I was one of those who said that.
I dunno know about a lawyer intentionally sinking their clients' case, but that would be exceptionally hard to prove in this instance anyway. Habba's court behaviour was unacceptable, but it's not like Trump couldn't have changed that in a word if he had wanted to - and besides, his behaviour was also unacceptable and probably contributed as much to the amount awarded as anything Habba did.

Whether a legal mistake was made in the trial court
Whether this mistake changed the final decision (called the "judgment") in the case
An appeal is not:

A new trial with witnesses or a jury
A chance to go to court and present your case all over again in front of a different judge
