Gun Legislation

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

It's ok, but there are at least 3 family owned chicken places in Pensacola that are as good or better.

Not to be a shill for corporate cardboard food, but you do know that if Mom and Pop decide to open a business, that business might be a franchise. Or, Mom and Pop's little shop under their apartment might do really well and they expand. How big can they get before your No Chains Movement dumps them for being a chain?

I'd offer as an example Angelo's Burgers https://angelosburgers.com/
Family owned and run, but with currently 4 locations. They have really good food, so suppose they had a growth story like El Pollo Loco that "In the past four decades, El Pollo Loco has grown quite a bit. From our first location on Alvarado Street in Los Angeles to over 480 restaurants across the United States." One Mexican "Pop" in LA, now 475 locations. https://www.elpolloloco.com/ Do the No Chains Movement people really want to deprive themselves of some of the best chicken they'll ever have in their lives just because some poor Mexican dude made good?

Being the president and representing 50% of the membership we allow going to any chain restaurants at least once. If it's good, go back. Just don't go when you have a chance to go elsewhere.
My biggest rule - when traveling, do not eat at any restaurant you could go to at home.
2nd rule - try all the local chicken places before going to Zaxbys a 2nd time.

I quit chains in the 70s when the only 3 or 4 big ones were destroying the Mom and Pops. Students destroying Auburn's 1st fast food joint (while under construction) in the late 60s because the burger place (Jack's Hamburgers) razed our most popular boarding house.
Man, I loved those boarding houses. Sunday noon at every one I've been to, was fried chicken and about 10 vegetables. Those cooks even knew how to butched a chicken for the pulley bone piece.

Trinidad asks Canada to help stem worsening Caribbean violence

... Rowley described an "explosion" in the use of illegal firearms, including assault rifles, contributing to the violent killings of around 50 people per day across the region.

Rowley said he had stressed the ease with which U.S.-made firearms are entering the Caribbean with U.S. representatives, and urged Canada to help by assisting with access to small coastal patrol crafts, cyber-security and police training....

Mom Of Boy, 6, Who Shot Teacher Gets 21 Months For Marijuana Use While Owning A Gun
Deja Taylor, 26, still faces a separate sentencing in December on the state level for felony child neglect.

Seriously? :bs: They are unrelated. Where are you, NRA? Oh that's right, she's Black.
... Taylor, 26, still faces a separate sentencing in December on the state level for felony child neglect.
Yes, nail her for that.
And (victim) Zwerner is suing the school system for $40 million, alleging that administrators ignored multiple warnings the boy had a gun.
True.
U.S. District Judge Mark S. Davis handed down the exact punishment prosecutors requested.

“This case cries out for a sentence of imprisonment,” the judge said.

Davis said there was a “direct line” between Zwerner’s wounds and Taylor’s decision to mix heavy marijuana use with owning a gun.
:bs: Zero scientific foundation. Mark Steven Davis was appointed by Shrub.
... The federal case against Taylor comes at a time when marijuana is legal in many states, including Virginia, while many Americans own firearms.
Irony. Where's the epidemic of stoner shooters?
Some U.S. courts in other parts of the country have ruled against the federal law that bans drug users from having guns. But the law remains in effect in many states and has been used to charge others including Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden’s son....

Taylor’s attorneys also argued that the U.S. Supreme Court could eventually strike down the federal ban on drug users owning guns. For example, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans ruled in August that drug users should not automatically be banned from having guns.

Other lower courts have upheld the ban and the Justice Department has appealed the 5th Circuit ruling to the Supreme Court. The high court has not yet decided whether to take up the case....

Ruling

G. Steven Agee, appointed by Shrub, concurred with Richardson.

Barbara Milano Keenan, appointed by Obama, dissented. She has a helluva resume'.
... former justice of the Supreme Court of Virginia.

... She is the first woman to serve on all levels of the Virginia court system.

... Keenan strongly dissented in part in an August 9, 2021 (Fourth Circuit) decision which ruled that a charter school's policy to force female students to wear dresses or skirts did not violate Title IX, despite allowing the Title IX lawsuit to continue. Keenan explained "No, this is not 1821 or 1921. It’s 2021. Women serve in combat units of our armed forces. Women walk in space and contribute their talents at the International Space Station. Women serve on our country’s Supreme Court, in Congress, and, today, a woman is Vice President of the United States. Yet, girls in certain public schools in North Carolina are required to wear skirts to comply with the outmoded and illogical viewpoint that courteous behavior on the part of both sexes cannot be achieved unless girls wear clothing that reinforces sex stereotypes and signals that girls are not as capable and resilient as boys."
:---P

FYI, Charter Day School, which tax dollars support :ateeth: , is in Leland, North Carolina - SE Coast, hours and hours away from me.

15 year old charged

California mother says 10-year-old fatally shot her son, also 10, after losing bike race

The only thing that can stop a bad 10-year-old biker with a gun is a good 10-year-old biker with a gun.
... Authorities booked a suspect, whose name was withheld because he's a juvenile, on suspicion of murder.

His father, Arkete Davis, 53, was booked on suspicion of possession of a firearm by a felon, criminal storage of a firearm, carrying a stolen loaded firearm in a vehicle, child endangerment and acting as an accessory to a crime after the fact, according to inmate records.
 Good thing they're not identifying the 10-year-old son of Arkete Davis of "Foothill Farms, a community about 16 miles northeast of Sacramento".

Anyhow, lock up Dad. Idk what we should do with 10-year-old murderers.

:headscratch: That quote is not in this article nor in the article I linked this morning. In general, I can see a cop chasing a perp in order to prevent new injuries if s/he knows that EMS is en route for the original victim/s.

Ah, the quote is from this entirely different article that I linked a week ago:

-0-? If the cop heard shots and saw someone fleeing he might not have even known that there were victims that needed aid.
... The mother ran back to her car where the five children were still sitting and drove off, deputies said.

A nearby Gainesville police officer heard the shots and started to follow her, soon joined by Alachua Sheriff’s Office deputies and Alachua police, according to the report.

The mother drove for 13 miles as she was chased, reaching speeds of 100 mph, deputies said.

She was eventually stopped and taken into custody.

The child’s father survived his gunshot wounds, but the woman with him died of her injuries, deputies said....
Perp caught without further violence
Five children rescued
Man survived

The outcome could have been even worse. I'll give the cop a pass unless further info shows that he failed in his duty.
