Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Except the school where his children go doesn't use armed guards. That means he's not an "elite hypocrite." It also means the NRA is a bunch of lying low-class hypocrites.

If Reagan said an AK-47 was not a sporting weapon, nor was it needed for home defense, if he said that an "assault weapon" ban was necessary, if H.W. and W. Bush supported or agreed with "assault weapon" bans, and if Scalia says gun regulation is constitutional, then why is it that only Obama is acting unconstitutionally or committing impeachable offenses?

Tell us what part is unconstitutional and what part is impeachable. This should be good for some serious frickin' laughs.

The guy in Indiana shot himself loading his pistol. He wasn't allowed to have it loaded in the show and as soon as he left he started loading it. Seriously? He was in such danger he couldn't wait til he got home? Or at least in his car? Fer Real? That dude's got some serious enemies, I guess. This is the kind of paranoia driving all this "gotta have a big gun to protect my family" drooling blather.

Here's part of the problem - without any relationship to banning anything. In today's Alabama incident where the guy got on a school bus, took a kid and holed up in his bunker, there was some additional information gained. Turns out the shooter was supposed to be in court today (Wednesday) to answer to a charge relating to his neighbor. From the article...

"Davis[neighbor] was in the process of moving out in December when his truck -- hauling a trailer -- dug ruts into the dirt speed bump Dykes [shooter] had built up across the road, Claudia Davis told CNN. Dykes "got mad about what he saw" and stopped their truck to complain as they returned, she said.
Jimmy Davis says Dykes was standing by the side of the road, yelling and cursing at them, as they approached. He says he tried to calm the man down, but Dykes ran to his nearby van and got a pistol. Claudia Davis said Dykes fired two shots at the truck -- which also carried her 6-month-old granddaughter -- as it sped away.
Jimmy Davis swore out a complaint related to the incident against Dykes in December. Dykes was supposed to appear in court Wednesday in nearby Ozark to face a charge of menacing, a misdemeanor that carries penalties of up to six months in jail, according to the Davises.

"Menacing?" Seriously? You can be a nut, legally keep a gun, shoot at your neighbors and get charged with misdemeanor "menacing"?

The shooter/kidnapper in Alabama seems to be an anti-government "take my guns from my cold dead fingers" sort of guy. Hopefully, the Dale County SWAT team will accommodate him. http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/01/ ... 2L20130131

This is the part of the world where I grew up. I lived in Dale Co. for a while, and graduated HS in neighboring Coffee Co. Having been gone from there since 1975, it makes me nervous as hell to go back sometimes. Rednecks with guns, trucks, religion and a shitload of ignorant fear- fear of all the things RWNJs are fearful of. Especially the socialist, muslim GNP (goddam n****r president) from Kenya. I'm not talking about a small percentage of the population, here, either. The woods are full of these white trash nuts down there, literally. Some sort of tornado shelter is fairly common; serves pretty well as an end-of-Amur'ka-collapse-of-civilization-us-agin-the-godless-black-messican-commie-welfare-zombie-hoard shelter, too.
Briefly stated, these people are nuts. With guns and Bibles. And simple, fear-based beliefs. The only wonder is that this hasn't happened more.
Yet.

I will not go quietly.

The children of the President of the United States don't require a higher level of protection than most others? No other US President has had a higher than average level of protection for his children?

Kudos to Partisan62. Every time I think he can't possibly say anything more my-mother-only-lets-me-eat-with-a-spoon-stupid, he proves me wrong.

Partisan62 wrote:BTW, it would cost about $5.4 billion per year for guards in all U.S. public schools, approximately what the U.S. government spends EVERY 12 HOURS. That's NOT "enormous, you dumbass.
Some schools are quite large. You'll need more than one guard. What of theatres, shopping malls, fast food restaurants, subways, airport terminals and all the other places where mass shootings have happened?

Even with just schools, you have a child-like faith in big-government and it's ability to keep costs down.

So far, reports on this loon have included shooting at his neighbor (the thing he was supposed to be going to court for), killing another neighbor's dog by beating it with a lead pipe, threatening to shoot kids for being on "his side" of the road, "guarding" his property at night by patrolling with flashlight and shotgun, illegal weapons charge in Florida, marijuana charge about 10 years ago, and yet he was sufficiently within the bounds of "normal" down there (and probably most other places unfortunately), that nobody apparently could do anything about him.

Lots of schools have cops now, the "resource officers" and they do serve a generally useful purpose not directly related to protection against armed intruders. Examples here... http://www.ifpo.org/articlebank/school_officers.html and here...
http://www.ncdjjdp.org/cpsv/sro/job_description.html

But the heart of the retard part of the argument is that one guy is going to be able to make much of a difference in most mass-killing attacks. Following the reasoning of the gun ummm "enthusiasts", a shooter is aware of "gun-free zones" therefore, he's probably know where the cop patrols and shoot him first. Or at least attack when the cop is on the other side of the building. Sure, any armed security is probably better than none, but in the real-life incidents, it hasn't had nearly the effect the ummm "enthusiasts" claim.

... and certainly not for the monetary cost.

We had a resource officer in our school, it was about as effective as you would think. (NOT). If my helping students with career choices means flirting with the underage poontang.... yeah they did excellent at that.

Much like the TSA this would be nothing but a security theatre.

There was an armed guard at Columbine. How did that work out for anyone?

If a school is to be totally protected and armed guarded, a guard would need to be placed at every possible entry space including glass doors, the loading dock, and all windows on the first floor that can be accessible. For my kids school, that would mean that 40 armed guards would be necessary to protect all entry points.

If the perp is a child, is that armed guard going to shoot? How many of us could shoot a child even one wielding a gun?

Dear Governor, Commissioners and Legislators,

I oppose efforts to remove the names of concealed carry permit holders from the public record.

1) The argument that it makes "targets out of law-abiding gun owners" is nonsensical, unless they are ashamed of being gun owners. It's not like anyone is out there trying to assassinate gun owners.

2) The argument "that homes without guns may be targeted by criminals" is also nonsensical. Lots of people have guns without being concealed carry permit holders.

3) Having the information remain public allows citizens to catch permit holders that may have fallen through the cracks and are not actually legally allowed to possess guns due to mental disease or criminal history.

4) Most importantly, government should always err on the side of openness. Since there is no reason for hiding these public records that passes the sniff test, they should not be made secret.

I await your reply.

Sincerely,
(Vrede)
Vrede do you even know what it takes to get a CCP? I'd guess probably not because your statement of holders "that may have fallen through the cracks" is just as nonsensical as your 1 and 2 points. As far as publishing the records I don't care one way or the other. However, your argument would hold more validity with those you hope to persuade if you knew what you were talking about.

I'm guessing Vrede does know, but in case he doesn't, let's summarize: waste half a day sitting in a class where a guy reads to you then gives you a "test" to which he gives you "hints" for answers. Go fire 50 rounds. Get a certificate. Get fingerprints. Pay the state around $100. Put your card in your wallet and voila! you're "qualified" to carry concealed in 40 or so states.

Hey! It helps sell more guns ... the only real purpose of the NRA these days.

The NRA has become nothing less than a shill for the gun manufacturers.

On one of the forums I participate, the mod attempted to assert the NRA was all about "civil rights" and lobbied for only civil rights.

What a joke.

I'm thinking with a little creative lawyering and the ummm "flexibility" provided by PATRIOT (for example), that we ought to be able to get the NRA classified as a terrorist organization. Personally, if I were given the choice of banning "assault rifles" or banning the NRA, I'd get rid of the NRA.
