The real story of Mother Teresa

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

I know that Hitchens had been on Mother T's case for a long time, though I never
paid much attention to the details. I also know that Donohue will have a hissy fit
at the drop of a hat. Guess he has to keep the troops excited so the money keeps
coming in.

Yep, in the same way there are religious extremists, there are also anti-religious extremists desiring to tarnish everything related to the belief in God.

I watch Penn often. I don't always agree with him. He's entertaining, though.

He is an extremist but in a different way, IMO.

I'm beginning to understand a person who believes in God is not tolerated here ... even a liberal one (as all of us believing in Christ should be).

Penn & Teller's show was, well, unscientific. Years ago they phoned around for material to do a hatchet-job on NASA. They weren't interested in the real story behind claims they'd heard. They wanted the dirt, and nothing but the dirt.

I keep this in mind when I watch their other episodes. I have however heard much of the same complaints regarding Mother Teresa from more mainstream sources. Not just of cult-like behavior of keeping converts isolated from their families, but that her way of "helping" the poor was mostly limited to making sure that they died Christian.

When Lady Diana and Mother Teresa died, I remember some people whining about how Lady Diana's death received so much more press coverage. I disagree with them. AIDS used to be The Plague, with people refusing to work in the same office or let their kids go to the same school. So when Lady Diana walked into an AIDS ward and started shaking hands with AIDS patients, it was a Really Big Deal. It ended a lot of the hysteria. There's also her work on getting land mines banned. THAT is what gives me perspective on Mother Teresa.

This thread should have been titled "Wingnut Conspiracists Go Full Retard!"

Have you taken a serious look at who the ones are that are most intolerant in believers? I'll help you in case you ain't figured it out. They're the very ones here you snuggle up to, getting all cozy and buddy-buddy with and siding with their anti-conservative views. And you honestly believe that believers in Christ should be liberals? (as defined by today's standards)

Look at the "liberal" mindsets of those who favor the eradication of anything religious, but, for example, favor the proliferation of 'in-your-face' perverse lifestyles under the guise of 'human rights'. link

The battle cry is "Jesus said nothing against gay lifestyles". Does that mean because He said nothing (that was quoted), that He favored it, despite all the references to same-sex unions in the Bible? If I see my kid steal an apple from the market and I say nothing, does that mean I approve?

The true definition of liberal went out the window long ago; along with the true definition of conservative.

It means that neither Jesus nor you cares enough to speak up about it. Did you have a point?
Yep, point proven.

Use a website as an example, and get accused of being a follower of it's content.
Respondent knows the mind of a Deity.
A prime example of today's liberal mindset. According to Mike's post, all religious people should be liberals.

I've always wondered what "liberal mindset" was. As a Liberal, you'd think I'd know, but unfortunately not. Care to define it clearly and concisely?

Other believers, duh. How many sects of Christianity are there? What other religion does Christianity approve of again? Who wants to force their unsubstantiated beliefs on public school children?

I don't think it has anything to do with a conspiracy, just the fact that most people,
even the supposed saintly, don't live up to their billing. Maybe they were a bit hard
on the old dame, but I think there's reason to doubt some of her over the top PR.

It's a little sad to see Hitchens puffing and drinking away, in light of what happened
to him.

My point was (I expounded on it but deleted it), how many of you bash President Obama for being a Christian (though there are the wingnuts who think he's an atheist Kenyan socialist) all the while you toss out missives regarding those of us who believe?

@Leo: All Christians should have the "liberal mindset:" Taking care of the poor, the widows ... all those less fortunate.

Have you ever read Proverbs (old testament)? No one should ever loan money and charge interest.

I could go on.
