Krugman schools another Republican -- Carly Fiorina

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Krugman schools another Republican -- Carly Fiorina

Unread post by Stinger »

She's peddling the Republican myth about public sector jobs and bureaucrats.

Krugman had to remind her that the half-a-million public sector job losses have been teachers and the cuts in public spending have been to infrastructure repair -- roads, bridges, etc. The "bureaucrats" and the "wasteful spending" are all still there.

And to the Republican myth that the number of gummint employees has exploded, Krugman pointed out that the population has exploded. The ratio public workers to overall population was 59 per 1,000 in 1980 versus 65 per 1,000 today. Wow, the explosion has nearly killed me.

If the public sector had grown at the same rate it had in previous recessions instead of decreasing, the unemployment rate would now be just above 6%.

More Republican myths bite the dust ... at least for people who believe the facts instead of the Kool Aid.

Why spend money on things that make jobs when there are banks that need our money!
