It's unfortunate that anyone made this false connection. History's 'The Bible' is meant to enlighten people on its rich stories and deep history."

“This is utter nonsense," Burnett said. "The actor who played Satan, Mehdi Ouzaani, is a highly acclaimed Moroccan actor. He has previously played parts in several Biblical epics -- including Satanic characters long before Barack Obama was elected as our President.”

"Both Mark and I have nothing but respect and love our President, who is a fellow Christian," Downey added. "False statements such as these are just designed as a foolish distraction to try and discredit the beauty of the story of The Bible.”

And we all know who is a very talented designer of "foolish distractions" don't we?

I can see the resemblance to Obama being unintentional but still, a light skinned European to play Jesus and a dark skinned African to play Satan? Don't they have actors in the Middle East and why not a Swede to be the devil?

Satan, and bad guys in general, are often portrayed as dark - sometimes figuratively, sometimes literally. Probably denizens of "the Moors" weren't that happy with the portrayal of Othello. Darth Vader didn't wear summer white, did he? Does portrayal of an evil person as dark or black have racial overtones. IMNVHO, probably. OTOH, doesn't the Bible itself reference God as light and Satan as dark? Isn't "Prince of Darkness" a biblical term?

Or, looking at it from a broader standpoint, all life comes from the Sun - or at least without the Sun there would be no life here. Light is good. Dark not so much. So creating a vision of polar opposites good vs. evil, you get light vs. dark. I have no doubt there are some who intentionally portray the 'bad guy" as black, and who are shocked when they go to see something like "Django Unchained" or "Blazing Saddles" for that matter and the black guy wears the white hat. I don't doubt there are movies where the "bad guys" are clearly political. Some say that applies to "Avatar." I don't really think this is one of those occasions. Interesting part, though, is that Turks seems to think the show was a documentary and "exposed" Obama as Satan, rather than taking the approach that the producers had politicized the Biblical story.
