Yo billy.b - you've gotta get out of there. Go West, old man.
I think it's too late.
Promises. I promised myself in the early 70s that I would never ever ever live in Florida. I've been here for 40 years.
I loved Florida for years, but it quit loving me back. Remember back in the 80's there was a touristy ad that showed people on beaches, island lifestyle, etc., and the tag line was "Florida - the rules are different here." Little did I know what that would morph into. We had mostly Dem Governors, except for Martinez, who I don't remember being all that awful. We had both Dem and Repug Senators, and, as I recall, the state pretty much left the cities alone to run themselves. Not saying it was ever utopia, but the places in the state where I lived and hung out were pretty cool places to be.
Now, the state government has run amok from top down, and it's undoubtedly harder and harder to separate oneself from the lunacy. Sure, one might live in a left-leaning area and have mostly friends who don't drool, but it's hard to forget that even if you didn't vote for these idiots, and may not even know anybody personally who did, that there are still enough people around that elected - all across the state - "representatives" who would vote to pass all this crap. It's harder to avoid being painted by the big brush of awful. Kinda like living close to a shopping center - at first, you've got Nordstrom and the usual mix of mall stores, but over time those move out and sleazy bars and strip joints move in. Maybe your house hasn't change, and maybe you haven't changed, but eventually you have to admit you live in a crime-ridden slum.
The last time I was in Florida was probably around 1992, to attend some races at Daytona. It didn't seem too bad at that time. But I don't doubt it has changed for the worse.
Where we are now is mostly older housing, like from the 30's-60's. There are a number of places that were sold off maybe 30-40 years ago to build apartment houses, or condo complexes, but they are mostly spaced out. A couple of neighbors have expressed interest in acquiring this place to build on it, but pretty much I've told them we intend to croak in place. I like the SF Bay Area; it's probably one of the most progressive areas in America. But not without its conservative enclaves.
A U.S. Senate candidate for Missouri says she has no plans to delete a transphobic tweet that violated Twitter's rules against hateful conduct, even after the social media platform said she won’t be able to tweet, retweet, follow or like posts until she does.
Twitter suspended Vicky Hartzler’s personal account on Monday....
Ironically, she looks like she could be trans, nttawwt.
That’s a moral outrage, and state legislators can fix the problem by immediately passing a bill in the House Committee on Corrections and Juvenile Justice. Thankfully, a U.S. Supreme Court ruling from 2003 makes the law unenforceable. But as long as it remains on the books, the LGBTQ community in Kansas has a giant target on their backs, painted there by state leaders.
Wait, wait, wait, you might say. Back up a second. Being gay is illegal in Kansas?
That’s right. State law defines several categories of criminal sodomy, including “Sodomy between persons who are 16 or more years of age and members of the same sex.” It’s a misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in prison.
Awww. , Useless. So much for "Ignored". You fail again. Plus, Useless, you've been busted too many times for anyone to believe you're not reading my posts, anyhow. It's just your excuse for cowering. Awww.
I see that you've once again started a desperate, redundant 'Look at me thread': viewtopic.php?t=4904

[Waaaaaa! Somebody started a thread and it wasn't ME!]
Thx, I had forgotten about this thread.
I'll merge them.
Fine with me, I wasn't aware the 2012 thread existed. I certainly didn't want to trigger V2:Queen of Anal Retention here. Cause that tends to get stinky.
