Another predicted Cubs loss:
I get the appeal of the Chicago Cubs at home in a prime time game with Stroman on the mound. However, Stroman has been a disappointment up to this point, allowing 24 hits and 15 earned runs in 26.1 innings. The Cubs’ offense has also been dead pretty much all season. The Los Angeles Dodgers are rolling, and they have a consistent pitcher on the hill in Buehler, who hasn’t allowed a run in his last 14 innings. It’s hard to get behind the Cubs here. Give me the Dodgers and the RL for max betting value.

:crybaby:

Cubs swept in doubleheader by Dodgers, 7-0 and 6-2
The Los Angeles Dodgers are a really good team, possibly the best in baseball. This was known before they even came to Wrigley Field for this three-game series, compressed into two days by Friday’s rainout.

Thus there is no margin for error when playing them. You’ve got to be 100 percent, nearly perfect in everything you execute, or the Dodgers are going to take advantage and win.

That’s what they did Saturday, sweeping the doubleheader by scores of 7-0 and 6-2. The team’s losing streak reached four, and since starting this season 6-4 the Cubs are 3-13, the second-worst record in MLB in that span (only the 2-14 Reds are worse).

Let's see:

The Cubs are coming to SF on July 28 to play the Giants. It will be a four game series. I wonder who has a better chance of winning?

Let's see:

Cubs currently have a .333 season rating.

Oops.

The Giants currently have a .571 season rating.

Hmmm.

I wonder?

Do stats lie?

... In not-news, the A's have resumed their spot at the bottom as pre-season analysts predicted....
 Yep, AL West cellar, just 1 1/2 games out of the AL cellar. Funny that no BRDistas thought that the pre-season analysts were correct . . . oh wait . . .
I doubt anybody is surprised by that - surely not the 2,800 fans who show up for games. I've read the owner's trying to create some sort of vicious circle to make everybody miserable so they'll just run them off to Vegas or somewhere. (1) put out a bad product; (2) because of having such a sorry team in a run-down stadium, attendance tanks; (3) because the city isn't supporting the team, they have to move. Or believe that if they get a new stadium the owner will buy some new players and win pennants.

Pretty much the same with the Jags in NFL.
Oh my, A's = Jags. :o

It never ends:

If you want to lambast the A's for being "cellar dwellers", you need to look at the averages. And, if you do, you can see that the Cubs are deeper into the cellar than the A's.

Why? Well, the A's have a 12-19 W/L ratio. Not great, but better than the Cubs' 9-19 W/L ratio. Looking at the percentages, the A's are above the Cubs with a .387 vs. the Cubs' .345.

Who sucks more than the A's? The Cubs, of course!

The Cubs are not mean.

The Cubs are simply pathetic.

The A's blanked the Tigers today, winning three games in a row, A's stats rose to .406.

Meanwhile, the Cubs just barely beat the Padres today, and wound up with a measly .367 average.

Meanwhile, the other SF Bay Area team, the Giants, pummelled the Rockies three games in a row, and stand at .613 for the season. Can't wait to see the Giants give the Cubs that same kind of thrashing July 28!

According to ESPN, the Cubs so far this season are ranked #24 in the standings:

"The Cubs lost every game in a recent home stand with the mighty Dodgers sweeping them after the White Sox did the same. They are simply overmatched in almost every area of the game, but at least Kyle Hendricks spun a good performance in his native Southern California on Monday. Monday's win over the Padres was much-needed after losing five in a row by a combined score of 27-7."

5-12-22:

The Oakland Athletics beat the Detroit Tigers again today, in Detroit, to make it a four game sweep of the hapless felines. This puts Oakland at a .424 average, and raises them from 5th to 4th place in the AL West, with a win/loss ratio of 14/19.

The 11/19 Cubs remain at .367, but have another chance to sink even lower after their game with the .531 17/15 Arizona Diamondbacks tomorrow in Phoenix.

Today the AZ Diamondbacks beat the Cubs.

The Cubs sink lower in the standings, to .351, and an unenviable 11/20 wins/losses.

Good for the Giants.

Funny that you never predicted a good year for the Cubs. Otoh, there was some serious bragging on the A's. Opps.

9-1 final at Oakland, ouch.
Attendance: 7,737
https://www.espn.com/mlb/game/_/gameId/401423174
Oakland is in the absolute cellar by a large margin for attendance, #30 out of 30, averaging just 8,421 at home. The LA Dodgers are #1 at home, averaging 49,081, nearly 6 times the Oakland turnout.

Empty seats, feral cats, angry fans: Oakland A’s push for new home as crowds stay away

A recent Oakland A’s home game against the Tampa Bay Rays drew 2,488 to the Oakland Coliseum, an aging ballpark that can hold more than 47,000. A’s attendance had not reached that low a level in 40 years.
2,488 :wtf:
Going to an A’s game these days might seem kind of sad, with so many empty seats. But there are perks, like being able to hear the balls-and-strikes calls of the umpires. At the A’s-Rays game on May 2, you could clearly make out the taunts from the sparse crowd.

... the A’s traded away All-Stars and fan favorites who helped the team make the playoffs just two years ago.

Leon, 37, comes to just about every game. He said it’s not just the roster tear-down that’s driving attendance to such absurd lows. A’s fans are used to that, the whole moneyball thing. It’s the A’s trading all their good players, then raising ticket prices, all while threatening to leave Oakland. It feels like they don’t want the fans there.

“The last day that we could renew our season tickets, we are like, ‘OK, are we going to do this or not?” Leon said. “Part of our mindset was like, Fisher is doing this on purpose, so no one comes, right?”

“Fisher” is John Fisher, the billionaire owner of the A’s....

“I see the feral cats almost every day,” Kaval said. “I see the cats, I see the kittens, I see calico cats, I see tortoiseshell cats.”

Beyond the roaming colony of feral cats that’s captured media attention
, the 66-year-old Coliseum has had sewage problems and lighting issues ...
"feral cats" Figures.
The A’s want a $12 billion waterfront ballpark development, complete with hotels, restaurants and housing. The city wouldn’t help finance the stadium directly from current tax revenue but would redirect taxes generated by the project itself into the surrounding infrastructure.

Opponents of the project say it’ll interfere with the Oakland port, make gentrification worse and steal attention from more pressing issues facing the city, like homelessness.

Kaval says if the A’s don’t get this stadium, they’ll have to find a home somewhere else. It’s not a new threat.

Leon has the memorabilia to prove it. Alongside A’s jerseys and newspaper clippings he preserves in a shed behind his home, Leon keeps an aging banner that fans used to hang at the Coliseum. “So we have one of the classic ones. It’s a ‘Keep our A’s in Oakland’ banner. I want to say from 1998, 1999.”

... It’s harder to get foul balls at Aviators games — they’re the A’s minor league team in Vegas. This year, some Aviators games draw more fans than the A’s do.

Not a problem. The Coliseum would likely make a fine homeless sanctuary, with plenty of room for tents, RV's, inside sheltering, water/sewer (sometimes), and renewable food sources.
