I've had that happen after riding out the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake at work in SF and real aftershocks. Trucks driving by spooked me, too.

Earthquakes don't usually make the news here unless it was a big one, but fires do. And today the Oceanside pier, which is the longest on the West Coast, caught on fire. Actually it was the building at the end of the pier, and they were able to protect the pier itself. Burned for 3 hours or so, brought in coast guard fire boats, helicopters dumping water and other firefighters on the pier. Pretty much ate up the whole half hour of local news programming.

I'm sure I was sitting and watching the morning talk shows on ABC, NBC, and CBS and didn't notice or feel anything at all. Oh, CBS had some goddamn soccer game instead of Face The Nation yesterday. I had a personal small tremor on that but just for a second or two.
