Not according to them.
But they are being polite by being non committal.

Now they've pissed off half the country and diminished their own legacy as representing all Americans.

They chose to support their country, not take an easy way out. That is appreciated by many. Well, the quote has been modified a few times, but originally Mark Twain said "Patriotism is supporting your country all the time and your government when it deserves it"
Others, usually right wingers, have proudly proclaimed "I love my country but I hate my government". It seems they are no longer able/willing to make a distinction.

Re: Olympics
Ftr, Mark Twain was a vicious critic of the government, most visibly its genocidal colonial war in the Philippines. The US had promised to free the Filipinos from Spain. Instead, it reneged and imposed its own imperialist subjugation. The brutal Philippine–American War lasted about 14 years and cost the lives of up to 1 million civilians.O Really wrote: ↑Thu Feb 26, 2026 10:36 amWell, the quote has been modified a few times, but originally Mark Twain said "Patriotism is supporting your country all the time and your government when it deserves it"

Makes the 2026 Olympians' words seem pretty tame, doesn't it? It's a proud American tradition. SoupySales and MAGA are just butthurt because it takes their Cult Leader and the Jackboots down a peg.On October 24, 1901, when US Marines landed in Samar during the Philippine-American War (sometimes rather patronisingly referred to as the Philippine Insurrection), Brigadier General 'Hell-roaring Jake' Smith issued his orders: "I wish you to burn and kill; the more you burn and kill, the better it will please me."
Some Americans, notably Mark Twain, strongly objected to the annexation of the Philippines. (Many other Americans mistakenly thought that the Philippines wanted to be 'liberated' by the United States.) Twain was, in fact, the most prominent literary opponent of the bloody war and imperialism in general, and served as a vice president of the Anti-Imperialist League from 1901 until his death. His short story 'The War Prayer' remains one of the world's great pro-peace pieces of literature. The story follows this except from Twain's autobiography (1899):
Mark Twain, 'Incident in the Philippines' (‘On the Moro Massacre’)
https://revolutionsnewsstand.com/2025/0 ... york-1924/Excerpt:A classic anti-imperialist indictment from Mark Twain. The contempt, sarcasm, and ‘anti-Americansim’ of this inflamed commentary on reports of the 1906 massacres of Moros in the Philippines by U.S. occupation forces was deemed too incendiary to publish in his lifetime, not seeing print until a decade after his death. If these same words were written today, perhaps about Gaza, Twain might well be facing ‘terrorism’ charges.The Moro Crater Massacre
On March 8, 1906, an American military detachment attacked a village of Filipino Muslims (Moros) living in the hollow of a mountain in one of the southern islands. Every one of 600 men, women, and children were killed. This was the Moro Massacre, which drew an angry response from Mark Twain and other anti-imperialist Americans. Twain led the Anti-Imperialist League which opposed the annexation of the Philippines by the United States. He wrote 'Incident in the Philippines' (published posthumously in 1924) in response to the Moro Crater Massacre.
We have pacified some thousands of the islanders and buried them; destroyed their fields; burned their villages, and turned their widows and orphans out-of-doors; furnished heartbreak by exile to some dozens of disagreeable patriots; subjugated the remaining ten millions by Benevolent Assimilation, which is the pious new name of the musket; we have acquired property in the three hundred concubines and other slaves of our business partner Sultan of Sulu, and hoisted our protecting flag over that swag. And so, by the Providences of God – and the phrase is the government's, not mine – we are a World Power.
-- Mark Twain
Twain held special contempt for "Christian" justification of massacres as can be seen in these two pieces:
Battle Hymn Of The Republic
— Mark Twain Version
Mine eyes have seen the orgy of the Launching of the Sword
He is searching out the hoardings where the stranger’s wealth is stored;
He hath loosed his fateful lightnings and with woe and death has scored;
His lust is marching on.
I have seen him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps;
They have builded him an altar in the Eastern dews and damps;
I have read his doomful mission by the dim and flaring lamps;
His night is marching on!
I have read his bandit gospel writ in burnished rows of steel:
“As ye deal with my pretensions, so with you my wrath shall deal;
Let the faithless son of Freedom crush the patriot with his heel;
Lo, Greed is marching on!”
We have legalized the strumpet and are guarding her retreat;
Greed is seeking out commercial souls before his judgement seat;
O, be swift, ye clods, to answer him! Be jubilant my feet!
Our god is marching on.
In a sordid slime harmonious Greed was born in yonder ditch,
With a longing in his bosom — and for others’ goods an itch.
As Christ died to make men holy, let men die to make us rich –
Our god is marching on.
NOTE: In Manila the Government has placed a certain industry (prostitution) under the protection of our flag. (M.T.)
WowOn March 22, 1905 Harper's Bazaar rejected Mark Twain's pro-peace short story, 'The War Prayer', as "not quite suited to a woman's magazine". Eight days later, Twain wrote to his friend Dan Beard, to whom he had read the story, "I don't think the prayer will be published in my time. None but the dead are permitted to tell the truth." Unfortunately, Twain had an exclusive contract with Harper & Brothers, so the 1,300-word classic tale remained unpublished until 1923. We reproduce it here:

Yet another reason you can't believe anything you read.
Headline: "Daniel Radcliffe refuses to wear Alysa Liu's gold medal after Winter Olympics controversy"
Sounds rude, eh? Here's what happened - after a mutual fan meeting, with hugs and laughter, Alysa offers Daniel the chance to wear her medal for a photo. He starts to put it on, and then says, "no, I can't do that. I'll hold it. Wearing it feels like stolen valor." Class act from both.

Re: Olympics
The striped hair should have been a clue.
MAGA celebrates Olympic gold medalist Alysa Liu—then discovers she’s liberal and anti-ICE
... “Coming from a family of immigrants, I think immigrants deserve rights,” she said in a February interview.
That does make some kind of sense, but MAGA types either weren’t paying attention or fell into a denial that couldn’t survive a more recent interview.
Speaking with Rolling Stone on Saturday, Liu made it clear where she and her family stand.
“Our family is pretty liberal thanks to my father,” she said.
“Me and my family would go to protests … A lot of climate stuff, but mostly election things, Black Lives Matter, Stop Asian Hate, ICE protests. A ton of that stuff.”
She’s also in favor of things like fighting for what’s right, speaking up, and “basic human rights.” You know, standard left-wing terror campaigns.
The right started crashing out harder than an Olympic skater on Friday the 13th....

Third time over Canada in the Final (women don't play sled hocky in the Paralympics). Sorry, O Really. 6-2, at least it wasn't an OT heartbreaker this time.
