While I did not agree with some of his views, I respect him for his courage and perseverence. He led a long, productive life, and shall be remembered for his war against hunger.

Longtime Indian activist Russell Means dies at 72

I respected him at first, met him in 1978, eventually came to not like him.

Mostly, I just think this George McGovern thread disappeared from page 1 too soon.

I thought you were talking about McGovern. I was a campaign grunt who sweated blood for him in '72, met him in Chapel Hill in '82, and moved him way down my list in the early 90's when he was whining about the taxes and regulations on his B&B. But he was a man of principle and one I'll always admire.
