War on Women

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

So on TV just after I posted my birth control question, I saw a breakdown of who gets abortions. About half are people below poverty line, who would not have ready access to health care and many of whom would find $10/mo onerous. Not as onerous as a child or an abortion, but still.

Understood, but what were they doing last week? I'm not believing they never expected to have sex until suddenly they were in the "moment."

Partially inexplicable, but some relevant factors besides poverty include:

BC, including Plan B, should be free and readily accessible;
Govt is being fiscally shortsighted, schools and welfare cost more;
BC is not 100% effective;
Lack of comprehensive sex ed;
Fundy proscriptions.

So I was reading about an anti abortion bill in Louisiana that grants personhood to a fertilized egg.

https://www.commondreams.org/news/2022/ ... d-provider
McCormick's measure, which would give personhood to a fertilized egg, states that its provision should be enforced "without regard to the opinions and judgments of the Supreme Court of the United States in Roe" or that decision's "judicial progeny, past and future."
What happens if someone doesn't know they're pregnant and goes out partying and ends up miscarrying? Is that manslaughter?

What happens if someone is pregnant and can't afford medical care for complications that may arise and the fetus dies. Is that murder?

Will embryonic and fetal "persons" be able to vote, enter into contracts and exercise their 2nd amendment rights?

I always assumed that even pro lifers were ok with terminating a pregnancy in cases such as rape, but that no longer seems to be the case. Imagine a young girl getting raped and being forced to give birth. What a fucked up, disgusting, situation.

Also, while "life of the mother" often will make as abortion okay, "health of the mother" won't. :angry-cussing:

Along with rape there's incest, which isn't a surprise with these fundies. It's worse than "forced to give birth." Fathers have rights, imagine 18 years of shared custody or at least visitation rights with her rapist.

That's about 32,000 rape pregnancies per year, or about 5% of all rapes.

I think there's even more proof after McConnell said in the past few days that he foresees a national law against abortion.
Trump: β€œWe had the safest border in the history of our country - or at least recorded history. I guess maybe a thousand years ago it was even better.”

Some anti abortion states want to make abortions sought out of state illegal, stating that the the fertilized egg (and all later stages) is a citizen of their state. Aborting them is therefore tantamount to a crime against a citizen of said state.

Scenario: An illegal immigrant couple has been living in the US for a few years and gets pregnant. 8 months into her pregnancy she's deported to her home country of Mexico where she eventually gives birth.

Is the child, born in Mexico to parents with Mexican citizenship, a "citizen" of the state he or she was conceived in since life begins at conception? How do they even track such a thing? Should the state now sue (or whatever legal avenue there is) the federal government and lobby for citizenship of that baby conceived in the United States?

Does the ferilized egg get a "pre-birth" certificate or something?
