Auburn beat the Ducks at the University of Phoenix Stadium for the 2011 BCS National Championship 22-19.

One tough bird:

Auburn eagle "Spirit" crashes into luxury box window in pregame flight
Spirit retired this past November.

https://www.southernliving.com/travel/a ... rit-retire

"Spirit will celebrate her 25th birthday with one more pre-game flight around Jordan-Hare Stadium this fall.

The median life expectancy for bald eagles in captivity is 16.5 years. At nearly 25 years of age, raptor center staff and veterinarians decided that it would be best for Spirit to put her high-flying days behind her."

"Spirit was brought to Auburn in the late 90s after being discovered in Florida with an injured wing and beak. She was treated, but due to her permanent beak damage, she found to be non-releasable. Spirit made her first Jordan-Hare Stadium flight on September 28, 2002."

Plus, 3. Georgia Tech's toughest game is at Georgia, Nov. 26. It also hosts Ole Miss. Auburn's is the worst, ouch.

Ex-Alabama QB Jay Barker dodges jail time after allegedly trying to hit wife with car

Weird career:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jay_Barker
... In the final game of the 1992 season, Barker led the Crimson Tide to a national championship by defeating the #1 Miami Hurricanes, 34–13, in the 1993 Sugar Bowl. In the 1994 season, Barker won the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and finished fifth in the voting for the Heisman Trophy. Barker led the Crimson Tide to a 35–2–1 record as their starting quarterback, which was the NCAA record for most wins for a college quarterback at that time. However, the official NCAA record book reflects a 27–11 mark due to later forfeiture of games during the 1993 season.

SEC Player of the Year (1994)

Barker was drafted in the 1995 NFL Draft in the fifth round by the Green Bay Packers, but did not make the team. Subsequently, Barker was on the roster of the New England Patriots and the Carolina Panthers, but never played in a regular season game....
Did play in the CFL and XFL, apparently not very well.

At 49 he can't hit what he aims at now.

5-star QB and No. 1 recruit in the country Arch Manning commits to Texas

The five-star quarterback tweeted Thursday that he was verbally committing to the Longhorns. Manning is the nephew of Peyton and Eli Manning and the top-rated recruit in the high school class of 2023 according to Rivals.
He should really be coming into his own when the 'Horns join the SEC for the 2025 season. :P

Peyton Manning, Tennessee (1994–1997)
Eli Manning, Ole Miss (1999–2003)

How did they work out for Auburn?

"The Strip", great defensive play.

Arch Manning is also the grandson of Archie: Ole Miss (1968–1970). How did he work out for Auburn? Could have been worse, 'Bama was on Arch's short list of 3 schools.

Good article here on the revolving door conferences and the loss of tradition - and fan interest - that may follow.

"Somewhere along the way, the big players in the sport forgot that tradition is the lifeblood of college football. The local rivalries forged within regional conferences created their own traditions, including bowl traditions. For the longest time the Pac-8 (and eventually Pac-10) champion played the Big-10 champion on New Year’s Day at the Rose Bowl. It was always on New Year’s Day unless the latter fell on Sunday. If so, it was played on January 2nd."

Major scandal material!

A UNC football tradition is the singing of "Aye Zigga Zoomba" "...roll 'em down, you Tarheel Warriors, roll 'em down and fight for Car-O-Lin-A..."
Like this version from a former coach...

Silly song, means nothing - right? Not so fast.
The song was originally written and performed by a white South African guy named Josef Marais, and was entitled "Zulu Warrior"
Went like this:

Some differences:
"Tarheel Warrior"
Image

Real Zulu Warrior
Image

Dayum - A song by a white guy (South African no less) about a black tribesman, using made-up language. Cultural misappropriation! Racism! Using apartheid-era product! Real Zulus should get paid!

You're inventing the "scandal" out of whole cloth, right? There's a long history of white/black musical collaboration and cross-pollination in South Africa. Was Paul Simon a cultural appropriator? How about this South African:

Johnny Clegg And Savuka - Scatterlings Of Africa (1987)

Hmm, maybe he's not racist:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGS7SpI7obY

I saw Johnny Clegg ("The White Zulu") and Savuka in Amsterdam in 1991 or so, THE BEST!

Btw, the Zulu Warrior's uniform and headdress is way cooler than the Tarheel Warrior's. :P

Is it a scandal if only one person cares or is there a minimum buy in? TikTok frolicking without permission:
https://blavity.com/tiktoker-called-dre ... y-confused
 Baaad racist Drew. Makes you want to go out and do some racist frolicking, doesn't it? FYI, this site that's totally supportive of Drew is:
Blavity News is a community and platform for Black Voices, Stories, Creators and thought.
But maybe they appropriated that.

O Really, if I hear in the next few months that "Aye Zigga Zoomba" has mysteriously become a scandal, I will hunt you down.
