The League, as a specific entity, isn't entirely to blame - there's 32 owners, some of whom are the most blood-sucking robber baron-ish people around. OK, so ticket prices are a reflection of the market - if you can fill the stands at an exorbitant price, why not? But once in there, must you charge $12 for a cup of bad beer? Must the price of a hat be twice similar models just because it's got the "NFL" genuine tag? Every aspect of the organization top to bottom always charges as much as they can get by with. $200+ for a ticket, $50 parking and they can't just charge standard bar price for beer? Yeah, I know - if people didn't go/buy they'd have to do something else. But they're still evil.

Well, like the mainstream media, the NFL isn't a charitable organization. They are in it for the $$$. So, if you could present a case that they would make more $$$ with your ideas, I expect they will entertain, if not implement them.
Changing the overtime rules isn't going to make any difference in revenue or profit. They change rules all the time. No significant number of people are going to go to, or refuse to go to, a game because of the overtime rules. Their TV contracts and sale of merch will not be affected. There is no way to make a minor rule change more profitable for them. But if there was, and it was my idea, I probably wouldn't tell them. Bunch of sleazy money-grubbing critters doesn't need more revenue-or profit.
Agreed, except that I THINK that the length of a game affects profit, with longer games at some point becoming less profitable. Otherwise, I don't think it matters to the bottom line how roughly equal-length games are finished.

Don't think so. There's a pre determined amount of commercial breaks and limited breaks in OT. You ever notice the 30 second timeouts and they don't go to break?

Probably a combination of not having airtime sold and trying to keep game time reasonable and/or not wanting to push into the next kickoff window.

That's my thinking, plus:
I'm guessing that speculative pre-sold OT ads will bring in less money than actual ads for canceled programming would have.
Then, there was the move to reduce game time from 3.5 hours to 3 several years back. Not so likely if there was a big hit to revenue by doing so.
Finally, both college and the NFL have schemes to prevent endless games - 2 point "shootout" and sudden death. Why bother if OT rakes in the dough?

Again, I'm just guessing at this. Maybe there's some way that long games are a moneymaker, instead.

Well, boyz, either longer games make more money, or longer games lose money.

There is no middle ground.

This is BRD, after all.

No one has said that longer games make more money, though O Really did ask how they might lose money. Pay attention. Speaking of unfounded speculation:

Perhaps the NFL is doing the coin toss thing because it thinks it helps with the ratings.
:headscratch: College has an OT coin toss, too, and I can't imagine how sudden death attracts more viewers than a balanced OT scheme. Please elaborate.

He's going to have to make plays and not turn it over for the 9r's to have a shot. Not going to be able to hide behind a negative degree windchill.

Currently watching NFL Network, they're basically saying the 9r's won despite of him.

The epitome of fair weather uninformed fan that's obviously faking it.

Nothing wrong with being a sometimes fan when your team is in the hunt, but trying to speak authoritatively with any amount of expertise on something you know so little about is embarrassing and easily smelled out by anyone that pays attention.

OMG. I replaced the "e" in "49ers" with an apostrophe. Someone get Sluggo some smelling salts, he's about to faint!

Now, without looking it up, please tell us what stadium the 49'rs/49ers/Forty Niners/Forty-Niners played in first. I lived about 10 blocks from there when I won a football autographed by the team. We could hear the crowd cheer from our house. Of course I fully expect you to cheat. Cause that's what you do.

You repeatedly make the same mistake about "your team" even after you've been mocked for it numerous times and get butthurt when mocked again.

What did you expect?

As for the stadium, so what, if I lived near Cape Canaveral does that make me an astronaut?

And....
