The Global Warming thread.

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Was listening to David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust album tonight. It's from 1972 and the song "Five Years" made me think about how it was prescient if you listen to the words. Here they are.

Climate Change and its affect on America

Unread post by Ulysses »

Here's a great article on the effect of climate change on life in America going forward to the mid-21st century and beyond...

New Climate Maps Show a Transformed United States
According to new data from the Rhodium Group analyzed by ProPublica and The New York Times Magazine, warming temperatures and changing rainfall will drive agriculture and temperate climates northward, while sea level rise will consume coastlines and dangerous levels of humidity will swamp the Mississippi River valley.

Taken with other recent research showing that the most habitable climate in North America will shift northward and the incidence of large fires will increase across the country, this suggests that the climate crisis will profoundly interrupt the way we live and farm in the United States. See how the North American places where humans have lived for thousands of years will shift and what changes are in store for your county.

...

Today, the combination of truly dangerous heat and humidity is rare. But by 2050, parts of the Midwest and Louisiana could see conditions that make it difficult for the human body to cool itself for nearly one out of every 20 days in the year. New projections for farm productivity also suggest that growing food will become difficult across large parts of the country, including the heart of the High Plains’ $35 billion agriculture industry. All the while, sea level rise will transform the coasts.

Combined, these factors will lead to profound economic losses — and possibly mass migration of Americans away from distress in much of the southern and coastal regions of the country. Meanwhile, the northern Midwest and Great Plains will benefit, in farm productivity, in economy and in overall comfort.cally have lived in. Both scenarios suggest massive upheavals in where Americans currently live and grow food.

Awww. :violin: , Useless. So much for "Ignored". You fail again. Plus, Useless, you've been busted too many times for anyone to believe you're not reading my posts, anyhow. It's just your excuse for cowering. Awww.

Close to a record for the day, and about 10+ degrees over normal. One day doesn't matter much, but it's been consistently hotter earlier, with early wind kicking up potential early fires.

Another great link, OR. I don't remember a lot about our trip to Anza Borrego, but I do remember it was hot and dry. The paleontologists, geologists, and herpetologists in the group were thrilled by it. I was interested in the insect life and wasn't so impressed. It was also a very long grueling ride from SF to AB. In a '64 Chevy travel-all with no A/C. LOL.

Extreme rain/Cloudbursts, floods and mudslides

I didn't miss it - I criticized it. There isn't going to be any "unless". Only a relatively few will make any meaningful effort, and that won't be enough. I say quit writing stuff like there's any expectation of "dramatic action."
