Cawthorn

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Reading between the lines of Cawthorns latest tweet where he mentions these leaks being part of a "drip drip" campaign, Madison seems to be implying there's even more secrets coming down the line.

This MAY be the worst of it. Just 12 days until the primary and early voting has been going on for a week. Of course, the Dems may have their own stash of vids should MadCaw advance.

Not a whole lot of polling.

Most everybody has done stupid things they'd prefer didn't show up on YouTube, but Cawthorn seems particularly prone to salacious stuff - much of which was before he was elected. Do we know how he actually got in the position to be elected? Who picks somebody like him to push for Congress, particularly in an area totally infested with solid right-wing potential candidates?

He was the people's pick, charismatic ( :puke-left: ) with a compelling backstory who said the right things.

He overcame trump and Meadow's endorsement of a primary opponent.

Not to keep beating a dead horse (although beating a dead one is better than beating a live one), but let's consider:

Voters in WNC "hired" a 25 year old guy with one semester of college, and no employment record for a job as Member of Congress, whose responsibilities are to represent the area's interests in creating law for affecting 350mill people in the United States. Paraphrasing from a "job description," "...this person will be expected to participate in committees that make decisions or recommend action on matters of national finance, national defence, and expenditures of a trillion-dollar budget." (etc.) Compensation for this position is $175,000 per year, plus various travel and office allowances, and benefits including paid healthcare and retirement.

For comparison:
A recent graduate from a good law school would generally expect less than $100,000 first year, with the only ones meeting or exceeding the Congressional pay would be a top-of-the-class grad from (e.g.) Harvard who started at the most elite of firms in NYC. And in any case, the first year associate is given mostly grunt work (at about 60 hours/week) without much real responsibility.

A recent graduate in software engineering could expect first-year pay in the $80-90's with a large national company.

An MBA accounting graduate from a good school will get paid first-year about $60K in a major accounting firm, be treated like crap and do audit work for 60 hours a week. If with the MBA and about 7 years experience, if s/he lasts there and makes partner, s/he'll finally get paid about the same as Maddy.

In what possible universe does this make sense?

Great gig.

No qualifications necessary except an ignorant constituency.

Sadly, that no longer is remotely humourous. Back in the day of Will Rogers, he could say “I don’t make jokes. I just watch the government and report the facts.” Now the election of dangerous illiterates is serious stuff.

I can almost agree with the pay. Gaetz would be making far more with his law degree and daddy's contacts.
After all, these congress people were mostly making as much or more before politics, but somehow there has to be a line drawn. Either educate the morons, or don't let morons run for office.

I don't know anything about the Cawthorn family, but the Ledford family (a Ledford son crashed the car shithead got disabled in) is pretty wealthy which also means influential. So my theory is that the Ledfords are to blame for this pitiful Cawthorn tragedy once again. You'd think they'd have learned after the first time being involved with him.

Interesting that except for one nutjob, no one is willing to give their full name.

What may be saddest part though, it's the scandals and solicitous behavior that may do him in, not the politics or wingnutterey.

The likes of Boebert, Greene et al probably won't be brought down.

Voters in Madison Cawthorn's North Carolina district have very mixed feelings about the freshman lawmaker as controversies swirl before his May 17 primary

"notes"? The Dems can just run RepuQ ads.
... The poll shows the 26-year-old, first-term Henderson County congressman's percentage of support from decided likely primary voters was 49% in March. But in April it dropped to 38%. The next-highest challenger, state. Sen. Chuck Edwards saw his support rise from 14% to 21%.

Early in-person voting for the 11th House District and other North Carolina races started April 28.

"The big question remains: Will Madison Cawthorn lose the primary on May 17th? The short answer: maybe," Blaine said (Differentiators Data)....

In Cawthorn's favor are a recent endorsement by the National Rifle Association and continued support from ex-President Donald Trump, who spoke with the congressman at an eastern North Carolina rally this month.

Other favorable factors include that he has a good chance of drawing more than 30% of the vote, which avoids a primary runoff — and it would also be difficult for Edwards to raise his numbers to higher than that by primary day on May 17, Blaine with the Differentiators said.
Okay then, thanks.
Looks like MadCaw will at least make it to a runoff.
MadCaw still might even win outright on May 17, and he's the only one that has a shot. It will be excellent to see Edwards get stomped!
I'm even more likely to vote for MadCaw now.
Idk if there are any more recent polls.
