Could be. I did quick "Gamergate" and "Gamergate (harassment campaign)" image searches and did not come up with any similar symbols.

Toddler found at Highland Park scene orphaned in shooting

The parents of a 2-year-old toddler who was found at the scene of the Highland Park shooting have both died, authorities confirmed Tuesday.

At a press conference, Jennifer Banek, the coroner for Lake County, read names of six of the seven victims who had died, including 35-year-old Irina McCarthy and 37-year-old Kevin McCarthy of Highland Park....

Friends of the couple have since taken to social media to mourn the couple and express their grief. A GoFundMe page has also been created to raise money to support their orphaned son, Aiden McCarthy.

The organizer of the page said it was created on behalf of his family, and with their permission. Aiden McCarthy will be raised by his grandparents, and the organizer shared that he “is left in the unthinkable position, to grow up without his parents.”

The GoFundMe page had raised more than $130,000 as of 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Aiden was rescued from the shooting after a woman and her companions saw him pinned under his father, who was unconscious, while she on her way to get breakfast, The Daily Beast reported.

Dad died protecting Aiden. When and how do you tell him what happened?

... The other victims identified by The Lake County Coroner’s Office include Katherine Goldstein, 64, of Highland Park; Jacquelyn Sundheim, 63, of Highland Park; Stephen Straus, 88, of Highland Park, and Nicolas Toledo-Zaragoza, 78, of Morelos, Mexico.

I dunno. Standard disclaimer all I know about criminal law I learned on ID and Dateline, but if it wasn't a gun, but some other product provided to a person who caused harm, the father would certainly be in the civil suit defendant line. But since a crime was committed, it looks like a reasonably creative prosecutor could drag him in somewhere. He knew or should have known that his kid was not particularly stable - including apparently a suicide attempt - and had a lot of violent imagery in his music and social media. He knew or should have known the kid has a big collection of knives not intended for whittling or cutting steak. Yet he became the primary link in the chain that let the kid legally buy a piece of killing equipment. Illinois law may disagree, but logic alone would ask "how can he not be liable?"

The prosecutor just had a press conference and wouldn't comment on possible charges for dad.

The term "aid and abet" comes to mind. One might ask, if the father hadn't sponsored the kid for a gun card, could/would the kid have shot up the parade. Well, maybe, but it would have been more difficult to get the gun. He'd have to steal one, buy one from a criminal gun-running chain, go out of state and try where the rules are different, etc. And he'd have to keep it hidden from the parents. So while the kid could have done his deed without the father's help, the father clearly facilitated the attack and made it easier and, by extension, more likely. Hammer his ass.
