Mass Shootings

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Let the punishment fit the crime. Some people need to die. That woman and her new husband that killed both her kids and then flew off to Hawaii comes to mind. Also the young TN mother here in Sullivan County who killed her toddler daughter and buried her in a family members back yard. In trying to put myself in any one of those peoples situation, I think I'd want to die.

Gary Hilton is the one that always does it for me. He pleaded out of the death penalty. There's no reason for him to be alive, none.
Prison can be tougher than death. It's often the easy way out. Don't we have to put a lot of the incarcerated on suicide watch to prevent them taking the easy way out?
Good point!

Some people argue that more laws making it more difficult to get guns aren't the answer, as criminals don't follow the laws, so they'll still commit firearm related crimes.

In the last two shooting sprees, both killers obtained their weapons legally. The law was enforced, the guns were obtained within the parameters of the law, but many people were murdered.

Therefore the law failed. Does that not mean we need to fix the law in order to make it more difficult for mass shootings to happen?
I have yet to see the name of the shop that sold Ramos the guns and ammo soon after he turned 18. If any of you come across it please share. Same for the manufacturers. I want to send them a neo fish slap.
ABC news named the gun store as "Oasis" but I didn't catch the location because I was engaged in dangerous and illegal activity at the time. Tomorrow will likely reveal more detail. In the meantime I'm going to go back to that other action.

I happened to catch Texas Governor Abbott's remarks about the Uvalde shootings last night.

What struck me was that NOBODY has questioned his reasoning specifically the claim that other states with gun control laws have more gun related shootings than happened in the Texas school shooting.

Seemed to me that he was comparing oranges to road apples: On the one hand you have all the kids slaughtered in the Texas school, and on the other hand you have someone pointing to gun violence in general in other states, as a way to excuse the lack of effective gun control in Texas.

Anybody else catch that anomaly?

We are deeply saddened by the tragic events in Texas this week. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and community devastated by this evil act.

As reported in Governor Abbott’s press conference, it is our understanding that the firearm used in the attack was manufactured by Daniel Defense. We will cooperate with all federal, state, and local law enforcement authorities in their investigations.

We will keep the families of the victims and the entire Uvalde community in our thoughts and our prayers.

Maybe Texas ought to pass a law to allow citizens to sue gun stores that sell weapons later used to murder children.

:D Nah, in Texas you can only sue providers that "murder" fetuses. Children are fair game.

Police Arrest Texas Student Who Brought Guns to High School the Day After the Uvalde Shooting
BIG MISTAKE

A student at a Richardson, Texas, high school was arrested Wednesday for carrying weapons in a weapon-free school zone, the day after 19 children were murdered at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas. The student—whose name was not released due to his age—was seen walking toward Berkner High School late Wednesday morning with a rifle, prompting witnesses to call the police. Police found no weapons on the suspect but found an AK-47 style pistol and a replica AR-15 style Orbeez rifle when they searched his car, as the high school and its surrounding schools went into lockdown. The suspect was charged with illegally carrying weapons in a weapons-free zone, a felony, and taken to a state jail.
Wait, what about his "right" to be an ammosexual idiot?! Richardson, Texas is about 6 hours from Uvalde.

Evidently they've disabled their internet contact info in an effort to dodge the shame they may or may not have about it. Meanwhile, I've been rattling FL state rep Randy Fine for his lunacy about challenging Biden to come and get his gun. I've offered him a showdown and informed him, among other things, of "let's go Randy" and have notified him that I'll be sending it every day until he dies. I also told him that I wish that all the children in his family be the next victims as well as casting aspersions about his wife and his mother. His email is Randy.Fine@floridahouse.gov Tell them I sent you. Let's go Randy. I'm ready.

Opps! The email in my original post is incorrect/incomplete. The correct address is Randy.Fine@myfloridahouse.gov
I just sent my first message of the day to it a minute ago. Join the fun. Do it now.

Ah. Weird that his govt website doesn't list that.

No matter. I think I'll stick to the one contact unless I hear back from him.

This is interesting:

Onlookers urged police to charge into Texas school

Still early, we may learn more. It's possible the cops acted appropriately, possible they'll cover up and make excuses.

I'm no expert, but I did go through extensive active shooter training and planning, from the perspective of medical response. The standard since Columbine has been rapid entry and engagement, not waiting for SWAT. That way, certain areas can be cleared and medical teams can be escorted in, relatively safely. Victims can be found and treated on scene or evacuated, even while battle continues with the attacker/s elsewhere on site.

40 minutes seems like an awful long time for this murders to have lasted, but -0-? . Could fewer have been shot? Could more of the shot have been rescued before they bled out? Did the cops fail to meet the post-Columbine standard or did they do everything they could have?

Onlookers urged police to charge into Texas school
By JAKE BLEIBERG, JIM VERTUNO and ELLIOT SPAGAT
47 minutes ago
People walk with flowers to honor the victims in Tuesday's shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, Wednesday, May 25, 2022. Desperation turned to heart-wrenching sorrow for families of grade schoolers killed after an 18-year-old gunman barricaded himself in their Texas classroom and began shooting, killing at least 19 fourth-graders and their two teachers. (AP Photo/Jae C. Hong)
UVALDE, Texas (AP) — Frustrated onlookers urged police officers to charge into the Texas elementary school where a gunman’s rampage killed 19 children and two teachers, witnesses said Wednesday, as investigators worked to track the massacre that lasted upwards of 40 minutes and ended when the 18-year-old shooter was killed by a Border Patrol team.

“Go in there! Go in there!” nearby women shouted at the officers soon after the attack began, said Juan Carranza, 24, who saw the scene from outside his house, across the street from Robb Elementary School in the close-knit town of Uvalde. Carranza said the officers did not go in.

...

Upset that police were not moving in, he raised the idea of charging into the school with several other bystanders.

“Let’s just rush in because the cops aren’t doing anything like they are supposed to,” he said. “More could have been done.”
Edit - just realized this was already posted.

Texas school shooting 7th deadliest mass shooting in recent US history

... The incident makes it the second-deadliest shooting at an elementary, middle or high school in U.S. history -- behind the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012 -- and the seventh-deadliest shooting in the country since the Columbine High School massacre in 1999.

Tuesday's horror comes on the heels of yet another deadly mass shooting in Buffalo, New York, and amid a rapid rise in active shooter incidents across the country.

These are the mass shootings with the highest death tolls in recent American history, based on an ABC News analysis.

1: Oct. 1, 2017 -- Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada

60 deaths ...

2: June 12, 2016 -- Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida

49 deaths ...

3: April 16, 2007 -- Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia

32 deaths ...

4: Dec. 14, 2012 -- Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut

26 deaths ...

5: Nov. 5, 2017 -- First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas

25 deaths ...

6: Aug. 3, 2019 -- Walmart in El Paso, Texas

23 deaths ...

7: May 24, 2022 -- Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas

21 deaths ...

8. Feb. 14, 2018 -- Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida

17 deaths ...

9: Dec. 2, 2015 -- Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, California

14 deaths ...

10: April 3, 2009 -- American Civic Association in Binghamton, New York

13 deaths ...

11: April 20, 1999 -- Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado
