I just walked the perimeter of downtown Highland Park. It's very different feel than seeing it on television. It was palpable, seeing all the backpacks, water bottles and lawn chairs still lining Central was unsettling

There's still a perimeter so I didn't get within two blocks of the actual scene. A friendly FBI agent said the streets will be closed until Saturday or Sunday.

Yeah, on the east side of Central there's a military service memorial that's turned into a makeshift victim's memorial. That's the main area but flowers are being left all over the place.

I didn't take pictures, honestly didn't feel the need.

Toddler found at Highland Park scene orphaned in shooting

The parents of a 2-year-old toddler who was found at the scene of the Highland Park shooting have both died, authorities confirmed Tuesday.

At a press conference, Jennifer Banek, the coroner for Lake County, read names of six of the seven victims who had died, including 35-year-old Irina McCarthy and 37-year-old Kevin McCarthy of Highland Park....

88! Old enough to have survived the Korean War. The 7th deceased is not named in this article.

Imo, the wrong Kevin McCarthy died.

The 88 year old's son is a friend of a friend. I knew about him yesterday.

The seventh victim is most likely a child.

Adorable little boy. His picture was all over social media yesterday trying to find his parents. I feared this outcome.

Striking to me that all of the dead besides Aiden's parents are older. Maybe the demographics of the injured are more spread out. Maybe older folks and toddler parents don't run as fast.

I think it was more of where they were at along the parade route. This was the only plaza where there was a large concentration of people and more amenities (bathrooms) were available. Crimo didn't pick this spot by accident, he picked it to do the most damage. Having easy roof access made it a no brainer so to speak.

We should remember that there are places where a similar gathering after a traumatic event brings out not only a grieving crowd sharing that spirit, but police in riot gear using rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse the crowd.
