Other countries

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Some people have a weird hard-on for Putin here in America. I remember back during Obama's tenure a lot of memes and what not making rounds lauding Putin. While I will fully admit Putin would kick my ass ten times over in a fight having been part of the KGB and all, I still recognize that these memes and what not were very likely intentional and Putin is still a POS.

Case in point - owning a 100 million dollar yacht which he just pulled back to Russia. Owning an enourmous mansion. And just being an asshole. Oh, and poisoning dissidents. He's not a good person. But some here are head over heels for him because he's a "strong leader" or some other stupid bullshit.

Good luck Ukraine.
A lot of that has been manufactured by state sponsored Russian hackers using fake news, dirty tricks and bots, so successfully that our RWNJs no longer care about being hacked and manipulated.
A lot of dudes that put on a tough guy show, or worship the whole tough guy trope a la Putin tend to be some of the weakest, most insecure people I've met.

They found Saddam hiding in a hole in the ground. I think he was alone. He used to stand on balconies and act trumpy in front of huge crowds.

Paranoid and poorly educated White perpetual victims that are emboldened by the imaginary feelings of competence and strength they get from online solidarity with other weaklings. Look at the Canadian bridge blockaders. They crumbled like dry cornbread once the cops finally moved in.

Another point about Ukraine: according to more recent reports I've read, Ukraine has a large, if not majority, ethnic Russian population. However it is also by and large opposed to Putin and his threatened invasion. They apparently have no desire to be re-united with Russia as they were in the former Soviet Union.

It's also a part of Europe that has seen a lot of unrest over the centuries. Perhaps due to a lot of envy of the rich soil and agricutural production of the region. Personally I'd like to see Ukraine join NATO and be free of Russian domination once and for all. But currently it doesn't seem likely to happen any time soon.

Is problem.

Putin may order an invasion, or he may not. But he may also be playing the same ploy that Trump liked so much.
1. Want something from somebody.
2. Take away something they already have.
3. Offer to give it back if they give you what you asked for.

Most circumstances it would be called extortion.

Well yeah, the immediate goal is to get what he wants without firing a shot.

But he's playing with live ammo, not bloviating and threatening law suits and that puts this on a level TFG was way too much of a pussy to even contemplate.

Some are saying that Joe hampered Putin's slimy intent by releasing so much intel so quickly. If so, good for him.

Joe's intel releases supposedly preempted false flag incidents. They're also said to have given more time for Ukraine prep, arms deliveries and the building of anti-Putin int'l solidarity. War or not it'll be ironic if Joe has been strengthened in the midterms and 2024.

Joe's actually handled this as well as can be expected. Another reason to be grateful Cheetohead is nowhere near it.

Bet Putin would've been having a snort of vodka in Kiev tonight.

Those lines of bullshit are straight from the Putin propaganda ministry.

If they're no more sophisticated than that then maybe Ukraine doesn't have as much to worry about as I thought.
He can conquer, then what?

The head scratcher is that he doesn't nearly have enough troops to occupy.

Maybe he is betting on a bloodless capitulation.

-0-? At least Wednesday has come and gone there without the predicted invasion. Is there any way for Putin to save face if he doesn't invade?

I was thinking something other than capitulation, but you be correct that it's that or war. :(

I read a speech by Sec. Of State Blinken at the UN about the situation with Ukraine and Russia.

The entire situation is being being handled very well in my opinion.

Throughout the entire debacle, the US and it's allies have been publically releasing Intel about what Russia is up to. Russia says the west is overreacting.

In his speech, Blinken said he would love for Russia to prove us wrong. Even if it means a hit the credibility of our intelligence services. If that means preventing a war, then so be it.

If Russia backs off, we win. If Russia invades, we were proven right. Russia is still given an outlet to save face by having some mud to sling at the west should they back off. Still a win for the west.

Overall, I feel like the tactics used against Russia have checkmated them at their every move.

Lots of other countries wish their top diplomat was A. Blinken. It has a nice ring to it.
