Pubs work on plans to outright steal next election.

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

When is "voter fraud" not willful voter fraud?

‘What is wrong with this state?’ Video shows stunned Floridians arrested for voting

Indeed, what is wrong with racist, publicity seeking DerSantis?
Willful fraudsters have to take a course. That is if the live in a Republican trailer park.

Some get more:
They ran a voter suppression scheme. Now they're sentenced to register voters

Two far-right operatives who told tens of thousands of people not to vote by mail in a robocall scheme will now have to spend 500 hours registering people to vote thanks to a legal sentence from an Ohio judge.

Jacob Wohl and Jack Burkman robocalled roughly 85,000 voters across Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois and Ohio in the summer of 2020, falsely telling them that voting by mail would risk "giving your private information to the man."

Prosecutors say the pair were targeting neighborhoods known to have a high percentage of Black voters.

The robocaller, who claimed to be with a non-existent group called "the 1599 project," falsely said that voters' information would go into a database accessible to police, debt collectors and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which would use the information to impose vaccine mandates. The caller cited no evidence to support these claims....

On Tuesday, Ohio's Cuyahoga County Common Pleas court sentenced them to two years of probation, six months of monitoring with a GPS ankle bracelet, $2,500 each in fines and 500 hours of registering voters in Washington, D.C.

... The robocall stunt was only one of several high-profile acts the two activists used to spread disinformation ahead of the presidential election.

Together, they tried and failed to frame Robert Mueller, Pete Buttigieg and Anthony Fauci of sexual assault allegations. They staged a phony FBI raid on Burkman's own house, successfully fooling The Washington Post into doing a story. They allegedly stole the phone of a White House liaison that Wohl was dating to tweet out false allegations from her account, then said she'd accused Wohl of kidnapping.

For their role in the robocalls, the duo is facing felony charges in Michigan, plus lawsuits from various civil rights groups and the state attorney general in New York.

The Federal Communications Commission is also considering fining the pair a record-breaking $5 million for making robocalls to cellphones without consent.

500 hours is a quarter year of full time work, if one could call meeting people and doing a public service "work".

Lawmakers targeted Black voters with ID rules, NC Supreme Court says

North Carolina lawmakers violated the constitutional rights of Black voters by targeting them with racially motivated voter ID rules — again — the N.C. Supreme Court ruled on Friday.

The ruling found Republican leaders intentionally wrote the state’s 2018 voter ID law so that its requirements would harm Black voters more than white voters.

Another voter ID law, from 2013, was struck down in federal court for similar reasons.

Justice Anita Earls wrote that “even though the General Assembly had reason to know that African-American voters would be disproportionately affected by (the rules), it still chose to pass a law that required the specific IDs African-American voters disproportionately lack.”

It was one of two major voting rights decisions the Supreme Court issued Friday, The News & Observer reported.

The other case deals with partisan gerrymandering, and underscores the ability of state courts to rule political districts unconstitutional for being gerrymandered to artificially boost the power and influence of one political party’s voters, at the expense of voters on the other side.

On voter ID, Earls wrote, the law was another example of North Carolina’s long history of white political leaders trying to stop Black people from voting. A Democrat who is biracial, Earls had a background in civil rights law before joining the court.

Not only was the law written “with the discriminatory intent to target African-American voters,” she wrote, but the only reason Republicans had enough votes to pass it into law at all was because of racially discriminatory gerrymandering — in districts that were later overturned as unconstitutional.
Republicans were not deterred by Friday’s ruling, however, and announced that they plan to pass a voter ID law again next year.

With their party recently flipping control of the Supreme Court, GOP leaders are confident that this time it will stick. Friday’s ruling was 4-3 along party lines, with all the Democratic justices in the majority and all the Republican justices dissenting.

The dissent was written by Phil Berger Jr., whose father is the top Senate Republican leader and was a main defendant in this case.

In the dissent, the younger Berger repeatedly cited a news article about Republicans flipping control of the court in November’s elections — an indication that the new GOP majority could overturn Friday’s ruling if given the chance, once it takes power in January.
:angry-banghead:
... There was also no pressing reason to pass a voter ID law, Earls wrote, since voter fraud is virtually nonexistent.

The N&O has previously reported — and Earls wrote Friday — that there were only 508 allegations of illegal votes cast in the 2016 elections, or 0.01% of the 4.5 million total votes.

And of those 508, only one single case might have been prevented by a voter ID law.

Earls didn’t go into the details. But The N&O previously reported that in that case, a woman went to the polls and pretended to be her dead mother, who she would later say had been a “tremendous Donald Trump fan,” to cast a fraudulent vote for Trump in her mother’s name.

Although she admitted to it after the state caught her, the local Catawba County prosecutor, a Republican, decided not to press charges, The Charlotte Observer reported.
 Didn't even have to take a class, billy.pilgrim. We "win".
... A dissent from the court’s Republican justices, however, argues that the legislature actually showed restraint and could have gone much farther than it did, and that they believe “there is no evidence that (the law) was passed with race in mind, let alone a racially discriminatory intent.”
:obscene-birdiered:

BREAKING: The NCSC also signaled its intent to endorse Jim Crow laws that the Leg is expected to pass in 2023.

Florida has done at least 2 purges over the past several years. All were close before an election and centered around names.
Anyone found to have a different spelling of their name on any government site - You no vote!

So, maybe it's D'Andre on the Birth Cent.
And DeAndre on the DL
Or DeeAndre (after Mom,Dee and Dad Andre) on the BT and the power company or the guy who waved of correcting his fishing license.

They kicked off hundreds of thousands.
Tom it seems, doesn't turn up spelled wrong nearly as much as today's clerks and others inability to spell these names correctly in our current wild and crazy world of naming of African Americans.

This method gave us Dub'ya, courtesy of Jebbers.

Shouldn't but does so easily.

Ol' Jeb probably would have been worse than trump; he's intelligent and max. devious. No one spells nepotism better.

I'm fairly sure that other states have adopted similar.

Bad thing is that there is some legit merit to reviewing the names. Cyndy Smith may or may not be the same person as Cindi Smyth. But that doesn't mean its purpose and use isn't to get rid of more Black people.

We patriotic Americans, especially non-White ones, are screwed until the Voting Rights Act is restored with:
A filibuster-proof Senate, or
Liberal Legs in currently red states like FL, or
A non-con SCOTUS.

It's gonna be awhile. :(

That why Jeb used a firm outta Texas to do the Florida EVAL. These boys understood that i and y are easily interchangeable by a random clerk's mistake, or even the rebellious teen who changes it on her own at school. That's just natural and shouldn't be held against the voter, but these single letters with hyphens, commas and apostrophes, it's a threat to common decency.

That guy seemed a bit over the edge even by Repug standards. Some degree of "stolen valor" or a degree claim when you didn't actually graduate, or a bit of accomplishment inflation is common, but this one - wow. List schools he didn't even attend and companies he never even worked for at all. Fuzzy earnings, shell or fake properties. But then, he does remind me a lot of grifter Trump.

Congressman-elect George Santos lied about grandparents fleeing anti-Jewish persecution during WWII
Genealogy websites show his mother’s parents were born in Brazil, not Ukraine or Belgium, as his campaign website stated

He has no Jewish heritage.

GOP Rep-elect George Santos reportedly divorced a woman 2 weeks before running for office in 2019 despite suggesting he's been 'openly gay' for a decade

Comment:
It is embarrassing in this country that a person applying for a minimum wage position has to pass several background checks and drug testing, but a person running for the House of Representatives doesn't seem to be vetted at all. This guy appears to have lied about everything on his resume. And I don't think that New York has a recall option.
Umm, the Holocaust was perpetrated by RW fascists. So, he's a moron, too.

Wiki:
Did any of these lies put him over the top? Would foreknowledge that he was lying have cost him the election?
After winning election to Congress, Santos was one of several incoming House Republicans to attend a Manhattan gala that featured Republican politicians alongside white nationalists, conspiracy theorists, and other extreme right-wing figures. In addition to Santos, who was featured as a "special guest," the event, organized by the New York Young Republican Club, featured Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, Republican representatives-elect Cory Mills and Mike Collins, extreme-right commentators Jack Posobiec and Peter Brimelow, and members of the Freedom Party of Austria and Alternative for Germany, two right-wing European parties with an authoritarian heritage....
Odd appearance for a "gay Jew", dontcha think?

Story is that a small weekly local newspaper tried to call him out, and Dems ran some trash about him, but apparently nobody took him all that seriously. National Repugs spent only about $100K on his behalf - in a winnable district in NY. They didn't think he had much chance either. It's almost like he "wuz sittin' around drinkin'" one night and bet his friends he could create a totally fake person and get them elected to Congress.

Hey Florida, hold my beer.
N. Carolina Justices Hand GOP Big Wins With Election Rulings
North Carolina’s newly GOP-controlled state Supreme Court threw out a previous ruling against gerrymandered voting maps and upheld a voter ID law.

... The partisan gerrymandering ruling should make it significantly easier for the Republican-dominated legislature to help the GOP gain seats in the narrowly divided U.S. House when state lawmakers redraw congressional boundaries for the 2024 elections. Under the current map, Democrats won seven of the state’s 14 congressional seats last November.
You're welcome, America.
... Republican legislators celebrated the sweeping series of favorable decisions that are assuredly the result of the changing makeup of the state’s highest court. Outside groups spent millions on the two Supreme Court campaigns in 2022.
 More corrupt justices.
... Former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, who leads a national Democratic group whose affiliate helped support the redistricting litigation, said Friday’s mapping decision was “a function of political personnel and partisan opportunism” by Republicans.

“History will not be kind to this court’s majority, which will now forever be stained for irreparably harming the legitimacy and reputation of North Carolina’s highest tribunal,” Holder said.

... The court last year struck down maps the General Assembly drew because they said it gave Republicans outsized electoral advantage compared to their voting power....

Associate Justice Anita Earls, writing the dissenting opinion, said the court correctly ruled last year to ensure all North Carolina residents “regardless of political party, were not denied their ‘fundamental right to vote on equal terms.’ ... Today, the majority strips the people of this right.” ...
:angry-banghead: We're doomed.
