As a young pup I totally adored the Kennedys. I had a good spot in the crowd to see the procession go by when Nehru visited. There they were, 30 feet or so away, riding in that open car, waving to the crowd. I thought about that open car after Dallas. We all trusted everything way too much back then. Despite historical precedent, such as Lincoln, nobody ever really thought anybody would shoot the President. I guess we thought we were all to civilized for that sort of stuff. Or maybe residents of Camelot were invincible. In retrospect, it's surprising there aren't more attempts than there are.

Bud Gifford?

Any relation to Frank?

Gifford should have made the announcement, Cosell Costello'd it.
Related to both Frank Gifford and to Bud Abbott, like Howard Costello. :D

Well, guns have gotten a lot better since those days. But still, that guy in PA missed. Bad perch, wind, divine intervention (the GQP favorite). I'm just gonna look at it as just one more incompetent operation associated with the trump cult. Hell, if he keeps going this way, somebody may take another shot. But it would turn out to be just dreanged.

True, but he doesn't have the cult following that PINO does.

Maybe the Resistance can afford to hire better assassins now:
Here's how the 10 richest people in the world fared after Trump's tariffs

The world's top 10 richest people saw $74 billion vanish on paper after Trump's tariffs.

Trump's tariffs triggered a huge market sell-off.

Musk lost $11 billion and Bezos nearly $16 billion, per the Bloomberg Billionaire Index....
Zuck lost $17.9 billion.

Knowing that Vance would become president should trump die, I am completely convinced the trump cult would glom onto Vance without hesitation. And I'm sure they would also glom onto Johnson without hesitation should Vance also die. Hell, they'd accept damn near any nutjob as long as he's a true nutjob.

Yeah, they'll probably lose even more between now and whenever they file their income taxes.....I guess they'll all also get massive "refunds" due to their alleged losses.....even though they've not lost anything unless they sell their stuff at the depressed price. So they win either way to one degree or another.

Not much, honestly. Just same ol', same ol'.

Lately I've grown tired of politics. I don't watch Fox News anymore. Basically, I stopped following any news sites or channels.

What is a Hawaii controversy that you have strong feelings about and why?

Here are two:

I do not support Hawaiian sovereignty in any way, shape or form. I don't care whether America "stole" Hawaiian.land or not. You dont go backwards.

I support the rights of private entities. Currently, there is yet another legal challenge to Kamehameha School's admissions policy that says students must have Hawaiian blood. They claim it is discrimination. Well, the founder of the school (Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop) set that policy in her will. She made the school happen. Her wishes need to be honored.

So you support affirmation action?

Aren't those contradictory positions? If Hawaii is American that means ALL of America, including the 14th and 15th amendments which preclude racial discrimination and any existing codicils which demand it.

It's interesting that cons are suing Kamehameha School.

To be clear, I have no opinion on either though Hawaiian sovereignty sounds like a pipe dream in 2026. I just thought it interesting that you take stances that lead to different conclusions.

Watching most any new program or speech and expecting to learn anything is like watching the film "Twister" and expecting to be prepared for the tornado coming at you.

I don't think Hawaii would enjoy sovereignty very much. On the other hand, you're welcome to join with California, Oregon and Washington when we become Canada's southernmost province - or the Republic of Pacific America.

Hawaii has to import everything, the reciprocal tariffs alone would kill them.

I don’t support affirmative action. At all.

I see the Kamehameha Schools situation as more of a private entity vs public entity situation. I think the private school should be able to set their own admissions policies.
