Just for Fun

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Clueless CNN Runs Raunchy Tweets During Times Square Celebration

... It wasn’t the tweets that were a tad off color, but the tweeters, with fake names including “Ben Dover,” and “Dixie Normus” (now self-described as the “og queen of the #CNNNYE Twitter feed”) — among others....

https://www.yahoo.com/news/aoc-roasted- ... 17346.html

Context: Steve Cortes is a former 45SHOLE campaign advisor.

:---P
... Though Ocasio-Cortez’s tweet racked up 19,000 retweets and 175,000 likes compared to Cortes’ 3,000 and 9,000, respectively, (conservative commentator Mary Katherine) Ham was not among those who were amused by the defense.

“First of all, I woke up like this,” she joked on CNN’s “New Day.”
Context: Ham is pretty hot.
“So I think you have the authority on people being sexually frustrated by my mere existence. It happens all the time. I’m glad to be able to discuss this important issue with you. The plight of the super hot in America has long been ignored and AOC has started a national conversation about this.”
I'm on AOC's side, always, but that's pretty funny.
She maintained her sarcasm as she continued, even slipping in a quote from “Zoolander” before making her more serious point.

“I’m goofing on this because it’s goofy, but to question the motives of every questioner you come across, I don’t think, behooves her,” Ham said.
Fair enough.

Huh, interesting & Thanks for sharing.

Of the artifacts mentioned, I was already aware of the "Antikythera Mechanism", and of course the Shroud of Turin. The others, not so much.

The "Mechanism" appears to be legit and was perhaps used as a way to predict the movements of the stars and such. I'm not a fan of the term "analog computer", though. It is more like a very fancy clock, IMHO.

The Shroud has a less convincing background. I remember reading a criticism of it some decades ago. The gist of the grip is that the facial image would be impossible if the shroud had covered the head. It's more like a projection of a face onto a piece of fabric held in a frame above the body, and there is no evidence that was ever done. And even if it were done, there is the issue of how did the image get projected onto the fabric. There are other problems as mentioned in the link.

I just saw that my ex signed into my Netflix account and watched an episode of "Squid Game." I'm gonna let him get half way through the season then change the password.

There used to be a tv show called "Ancient Astronauts" or "In Search of Ancient Astronauts" or something like that. It was hosted by a crazy hair Greek guy. But I've seen several episodes of it years ago. A lot of what the guy says makes sense. What was pretty compelling for me was the talk about cave drawings that seem to show figures in what appear to be space ships or stand alone figures wearing what appear to be space suits. His take on it all was that "they drew what they saw." I tend to believe that. But I suppose there's the possibility that the cave drawings are fakes drawn in modern times. But then again, the Egyptians drew people with cat heads and shit like that so you don't really know who to trust.

Yes, I recall reading about such supposed pre-historic cave drawings of alien ships and astronauts. But I tend to agree with the opinion that these are just modern hoaxes.

As for the ancient Egyptians, they revered cats. Probably had something to do with the value of cats to keep down the rodent population, and hence help protect the stored grain. Whether the AE's made the connection between rats and plague, IDK.

Rats were and remain an intermediate reservoir, the first victims of the flea-borne plague.
