Report: NBA to paint ‘Black Lives Matter’ on courts for Orlando restart

The NBA is going to paint “Black Lives Matter” on the sidelines of all three courts it will use to restart the season at Walt Disney World next month, according to ESPN, the latest move the league has made to help support racial and social justice pushes.

The NBA is also reportedly planning to let players change the last name on the back of their jerseys for the restart to a statement on social justice....
“We’re just trying to continue to shed light on the different social justice issues that guys around our league continue to talk about day in and day out,” NBPA president Chris Paul told Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated. “People are saying that social justice will be off of everybody’s mind in Orlando. With these jerseys, it doesn’t go away.”
The NBA will officially resume play on July 30 after halting operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic at Disney World near Orlando, Florida. Several players, including Kyrie Irving, have advocated that they don’t participate in the restart due to the Black Lives Matter movement — something they don’t want to detract from. Others, reportedly including LeBron James, think that playing can have a greater impact on the moment.

The court and jersey statements, though minor changes, are significant statements of support from the league — clearly proving it is behind the players who wish to speak out.

WNBA considering similar moves

The WNBA is going to hold a modified season roughly 100 miles away from the NBA at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, and is considering making similar moves, too....

Donovan Mitchell, Rudy Gobert shut down Jazz fan angry about 'Black Lives Matter' on courts

... Twitter user “ThorOdinson543” was not happy about it.

“If you paint ‘BLM’ on the Court, you have LOST this Utah Jazz fan FOR LIFE,” he tweeted at various Jazz player and team accounts. “Never again. Won't even watch on TV. Gone like Yesterday.”

Most of the time athletes breeze by these tantrum tweets because they have lives, and because every idiotically angry fan isn’t their problem. But “ThorOdinson543” actually tagged Gobert in his tweet, and Gobert gave an answer that was much more thoughtful than the original tweet deserved.

Mitchell also responded, and gave “ThorOdinson543” exactly what he deserved.

The reason you can’t see the tweet Mitchell and Gobert are quoting is because “ThorOdinson543” deleted it, presumably out of shame because he got owned so, so hard. The lesson here? If you tweet stupid stuff at athletes, sometimes they’ll notice and embarrass you beyond all recognition.

Who? :D

Fine with me. That would leave the Golden State Warriors' streak of 5 straight Finals appearances unbroken.

I'm most impressed that Lebron has been in the Finals 9 of the last 10 years, with 3 different teams! He won 4 of them. It's a case for GOAT, rivaled only by MJ winning 3 then another 3 separated by 2 years, Kobe, the 1980s Lakers and the players of the 1957 - 69 Celtics.

I don't think there should be an asterisk for anybody who wins a championship under whatever rules are in effect when they win it, or however many games the season is. Maris shouldn't ever had had an asterisk just because the season was longer than Ruth's. The record wasn't "rate of home runs" or "home runs per game average" or even "home runs in X games." It is "home runs in a season." Now if you want to give MCGuire an asterisk because his record was set in the (not officially allowed) steriod era, that would be OK.

Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry goes for 62 and here's how social media reacted

It was a big night for Stephen Curry. The Golden State Warriors' superstar set a career-high with 62 points in Golden State's win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday night at the Chase Center in San Francisco.

Curry's 62 points are the most by a Warrior since Rick Barry scored 64 in 1974. Curry is also the second-oldest, at 32 years and 295 days, to score 60. Kobe Bryant did it at age 37.

There are more wild numbers from the game:

Curry is the first player with 62 points (or more) in 36 minutes (or fewer) since Bryant had exactly 62 points in 33 minutes on Dec. 20, 2005, against the Dallas Mavericks.

Curry is the first player to score more than 30 points in each half of a game since "Pistol" Pete Maravich did it for the New Orleans Jazz on Feb. 25, 1977, according to Elias Sports research.

Curry and Klay Thompson are the only Warriors to score 55 or more points in a game in the past 30 years.

This was Curry's seventh 50-point game, breaking a tie with Kevin Durant for the fourth most among active players.

Curry hit eight 3-pointers in the game. It is his 49th career game with eight 3s. That is more than double James Harden, who is second on the list with 21 such games.

However, Curry did miss a free throw, snapping a streak of 80 consecutive makes.

Here's how social media reacted: ...

Bar room talk.

Michael has six rings in six tries (with six finals MVP's) and did it in a fewer number of seasons than Lebron. Lebron isn't going to get six, heck he's 4-6 in the finals.
The window is closing fast. Number of years doesn't get you GOAT, otherwise Brett Favre or George Blanda or even Vinnie Testaverde would've been the goat until Brady came along.

Lebron was in this year until he was out. Injuries amongst other things did in the Lakers.
