Today's local news (ABC) termed the BCDC victory as "second base".

The next step will be to get the Oakland City Council to go along with the plans (third base/home?). The program showed an interview with A's president Dave Kaval, and he stated that the A's will fund all of the necessary city changes to make it happen. That probably will clinch the deal, I would think.

The current Oakland mayor, Libby Schaaf, has been a big proponent of the new stadium. She leaves office at the end of this year, so Kaval did say that it's important to resolve all the gotchas by then. He estimated the deal will be done by October/November. 2022.

Also president Kaval states that "we're definitely in scoring position"...

I don't think anybody is going to argue that the 30's were the "good ol' days." But the stories of resilience rising out of that misery are remarkable, and baseball was truly special. Big stars, good rivalries, and a bit of an escape from hard lives.

Since Useless may not lurk for long and to me the A's sorry state will no longer be mixed with mirth over his whiny attacks on the expert and BRD predictions that they would be cellar dwellers:

LOSERS
Baltimore 37-44 .457, c'mon .500!
Chi White Sox 38-40 .487
Chi Cubs 32-48 .400, .400! :D
Kansas City 29-49 .372
Washington 29-53 .354
Cincinnati 27-52 .342, NL cellar.
Oakland 27-55 .329, still sub 1/3, still MLB cellar  .

WINNERS
NY Yankees 58-22 .725, MLB leader.
LA Dodgers 50-29 .633, NL leader.
San Diego 47-35 .573, 4.5 back, fading ut-oh.
San Francisco 40-38 .513, flirting with the losers section, 9.5 back, really fading :( .

First and second.
... To be fair to the White Sox, Statcast had Pollock's fly ball as a 389-foot knock with an .820 xBA, basically an 82 percent chance of being a hit. Then again, that still leaves an 18 percent chance of a very embarrassing mistake, a historic one at that....

Maybe a hit and run was on? Seems unlikely with no one out.

Ok with all these.

https://www.bleachernation.com/cubs/202 ... g-in-2024/
the DH has come to the NL - Neutral
relievers must face a minimum of three batters -
extra innings start with runners on second base -
the next draft will feature a lottery - Neutral
the replay process is improving (featuring actual explanations from the umps now!) -
pitch clock -
banning shifts - Managers should be able to put them in a chorus line if they want, and hitters need to work on their directionality.
expands the size of the bases -
limit pick-offs - -0-? They're usually boring, but have been a key strategic element forever.
(1) robo umps that call every ball and strike, vs. (2) robo umps that are used only to challenge a finite number of pitches throughout the game - Okay, but I'll be nostalgic.

I'm on record for being a hard yes for robo umps calling balls and strikes. The inconsistency and inaccuracy of the umps is maddening and unfair.

I'm mixed on the shift ban but pro offense which baseball needs more of. Don't think your idea of let them learn to hit where they aren't won't work because they don't do it. Strikeouts and homers are the modern game. Eliminate the shift and we will see more base hits and baserunning which the game needs.

Does bring up an interesting conflict, what if a manager wants to play an extra infielder in a end game as situation?

-0-? , but I assume a shift ban means a shift ban. Writing rules to exempt some sometimes would be complex.

You vill stay in your delineated box until ze ball is struck.

What is a shift ban?
Baseball is proposing to ban the second baseman from positioning himself to the third base side of second base and the shortstop from positioning himself to the first base side of second base (hence the shift) on dead pull hitters mostly because it's been pretty effective. For example you'd see the shortstop playing in short right field between the first baseman and second baseman (and the third baseman play shortstop position) for left handed hitters taking away what normally would be base hits.

Additionally infielders will have to play in the dirt as opposed to the outfield.
