The car thread ...

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Here's a pic of the actual car I reference above. Saw it again today. It's like seeing a starving dog - just hurts your heart. Reminds me of a wise saying, "just because you can build it doesn't mean you should."
Hate to hit a pothole in that travesty.
I wouldn't want to try it on the freeway, either. When I saw him yesterday, he was creeping slowly on a street. A lot of the severely lowered rigs that look like they sit on the ground when parked have hydraulics that lift them up to some reasonable height for the road. This sucker was dragging a couple inches off the pavement as he drove along.

...just never heard of a 330. Maybe it's the height in millimeters that the front suspension has been raised.

Well, learn something new every day. I've known two guys that had Cutlasses; one was a 68 automatic and the other was a 71 four speed. They both had 350 engines. From Vrede too's link, the 330 only lasted a few years. I'd just never heard of it.

The 283 was a nice engine - and your van at least started out being pretty light.

V 8
Displacement : 4638 cc | 283.0 cu in. | 4.6 L.
Power : 220 HP (161.92 KW) @ 4800 RPM
Torque : 295 Ft-Lbs (400 NM) @ 3200 RPM
Bore : 3.9 in | 99 mm.
Stroke : 3.0 in | 76 mm.
Compression : 9.25:1

I remember seeing lowriders in the '70's. They don't seem to be a numerous today as they were then.

Lot of lowriders still running around Barrio Logan. Every other Wednesday in the summer, just past Chicano Park, The La Vuelta Car Cruise lowriders do a cruise.

If I'm not mistaken, the 283 has a lighter powertrain (smaller cylinders, pistons, and valves, and thus can withstand higher revs better than larger motors. But I've never done any research to confirm that premise. It did have a problem revving when I first got it, but I solved that by correctly adjusting the valve clearances. I got it from a pot head. Go figure.

The Goodguys had a show at Pleasanton last weekend (I think!). A friend told me he was going both days, so I joined the Goodguys for 3 years so I could get some discount tickets. However as it turned out my friend had something come up (he's got lots of legal issues, real estate/tenants or some such) so he wound up not going, and I didn't go either. I might go to the next one which I *think* is in July or summer 2022, and for which I can get a bigger discount on tickets (supposedly). The 3 year membership cost me $65 so I'm not out all that much. We'll see. I've been to the Goodguys before. I think the last time I went I brought the Scooby Van and they waved me into show it on the floor. Or at least my friend tells me. I have only a dim memory of that now. But whatever. I might take the van to the next meet and see if I get lucky again. If only to make my friend jealous again, LOL. He's a major car collector, mostly Chevy, Alfa, Citroen, and of course Harley. He's a bit irascible which accounts for him getting tied up in legal disputes seemingly all the time. It makes me think twice about buying some property and renting it out. He got all his property from his parents, lucky cuck that he is.

Oh well.

And yeah, that bike/car hybrid is a travesty. Sort of takes all the fun out of motorcycling and adds the instability of a three wheeler.

And although your link is confused about how the thing is driven... I can tell there are pushrods extending from the cabin out to the handlebar area, so that must be how it's steered. And of course the throttle, clutch, and tranny are in the Nissan. I still wouldn't want one!

Yes, but according to my friend, there are extra discounts for members if you get the tickets to a show about 10 days in advance. IDK, we'll see. Still waiting for my membership card...

Next event up there is first part of June. Might want to start buffing that van now. Or take the Plymouth.
