2024 Elections

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

I wonder where DeSantis got the idea that "anti-woke" would be his ticket in Florida and nationally. Looking back to his first election, it wasn't anti-woke that let him barely sneak in past a Black guy with drug baggage. And it wasn't anti-woke that got him re-elected by a large margin. That would be (a) strong approval of his lax and irresponsible handling of covid, at least from the ones who didn't die; and (b) a terminally weak opponent whose time had come and gone. He's been going around setting land mines in his own yard and running around jumping on them.

It's so brilliant I'm betting he came up with it on his own with the help of his wife.
Entertaining when technically smart people do unexplainably stupid things.
Epic crash and burn. Ironic that the Fascist DerSantis campaign is the Mickey Mouse outfit.

Poll: DeSantis’s support collapses ahead of 1st GOP debate

... For the first time, more Republican and Republican-leaning voters say they’re “not sure” whom they would support if their state’s primary were held today (14%) than say they would support DeSantis....
Ouch. He rode the wave of COVIDiot pandemic "management" to undeserved popularity, but then revealed himself to be an empty suit - no charisma, fresh ideas or competence. I don't think it's possible to recover from such a collapse. Ask Howard Dean. DerSantis does have $100M, so the death throes of this cockroach are likely to be prolonged.

Laura Ingraham Mocked After Creating Winning Platform For Democrats
After the Fox News host claimed the Democrats would run on “pot, porn, Planned Parenthood,” Twitter users joked she was helping them win the 2024 election.

Fox News host Laura Ingraham is supposedly a Republican, but some social media users think she may have handed the 2024 election to the Democrats.

Just before Wednesday’s GOP debate in Wisconsin, Ingraham thought she’d throw out some red meat to conservatives desperately seeking new ways to own those danged libs.

“OK, here’s what the Democrats’ platform is, ready? Pot, porn, Planned Parenthood,” Ingraham sneered.
"... and throw in some Covid vax."
Damn, I might just have to become a Dem again.
But while many Fox News viewers might have agreed with Ingraham’s sarcasm, the reality is that she may have distilled a winning 2024 platform for those darn Democrats.

That’s because 88% of Americans believe medical and recreational cannabis should be legal, 62% approve of Planned Parenthood and at least 43% find porn morally acceptable.

So, naturally, many social media users wondered why she was seemingly helping the Democrats retain the White House.

Donald Trump Jr. Seethes At Fox News, Says It Tried To 'Censor' Him After GOP Debate
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene also complained that she was blocked from entering the spin room after the presidential primary debate.

Donald Trump Jr. lambasted Fox News on Wednesday, accusing the conservative network of trying to “censor and silence” his father’s supporters because it had barred him from entering a spin room after the GOP presidential primary debate.

Trump Jr. and several others, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), attended the Milwaukee event as surrogates for former President Donald Trump, who declined to participate.

Fox News, the host of the event, restricted access to the post-debate spin room to allow only representatives of candidates who took part, according to an internal memo circulated in the media earlier this week....

Trump Jr., accompanied by fiancée Kimberly Guilfoyle, told reporters at the event that security “won’t let me into the spin room.” ...

Speaking to a right-wing news outlet on the ground, Greene also claimed that Fox News “would not allow myself, [Florida GOP Rep.] Matt Gaetz, any other Trump surrogates to go into the spin room.”

... Guilfoyle had railed against Fox News on Tuesday following reports about the spin room rule, calling it “pathetic messaging” from her former employer.

“I’d just like to see somebody try to stop Don Jr. and me from going someplace,” she said.
Opps, they did.

Trump campaign raises $7.1 million in fundraising since mugshot was taken Thursday, Fox News confirms

The Trump 2024 presidential campaign confirmed to Fox News on Saturday that they have pulled in nearly $20 million in fundraising over the last three weeks, which coincides with the federal indictment in Washington, D.C. and mugshot from Atlanta seen around the world.

Former President Trump’s camp said of the almost $20 million, $7.1 million was collected after his mugshot was taken in Atlanta on Thursday evening.

Trump’s team said they raked in $4.18 million on Friday, which was the highest grossing day of the entire campaign....

The spike in fundraising also appears to be fueled, in part, by merchandise they have been selling through their online store.

Once Trump was taken into custody, the campaign started selling shirts, posters, bumper stickers and beverage coolers, all with Trump’s mugshot....

How did this country get so effed up that so many people treat the election of President of one of the most powerful countries in the world as more frivolous and less serious than voting somebody out of Big Brother house.

Yep, they've done more to dumb down the Republicans than the Republicans have done in that same effort. And the worst part is that Faux News, by virtue of its mere existence, has spawned even more batshit forms of the same lunacy.....like Newsmax, OAN, RSBN, as well as the plethora of bullshit internet sites peddling blatant bullshit that many idiots actually believe to be true. Stu on LNF is a perfect example of this. He continually cites nonsense from places like wingnut daily. He's way beyond the Faux News model but that's who sent him on his journey.

Before there was Faux, back when Cronkite was the "most trusted man in America", there were supermarket tabloids, including "National Enquirer", "Star" and some others I don't remember. They all had outrageous stories of alien probes, celebrity "scandals", "secrets" discovered, yada. A lot of people bought the papers, even more snuck a read while waiting in line, but I don't think all that many really believed most of it. Maybe they did - and they became believers in Faux and kept breeding. And their kids' eyes kept getting closer together and they all started to look alike.

Found comment on the ummm, "debate" somewhere else, but well put:
So, let's see, which candidate had the best idea about affordable health care? Oh, that's right, it wasn't discussed.

Who had the best solution to inflation? Oh, that's right, it wasn't discussed.

Who had the best solution to illegal immigration? Oh, that's right it wasn't discussed.

Who had the best idea about addressing climate change and the environment? Oh, that's right it wasn't discussed.

Who had the best idea about addressing gun violence? Oh, that's right, it wasn't discussed.

So, what exactly did they discuss? Oh, that's right, they're Republicans. They didn't discuss anything of interest to Americans or to improve the lives of American citizens. They serve only themselves and efforts to undermine our democracy at the expense of the American people.
