Idiot box thread

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Another fan favorite. Since I mentioned him in the Sleazy Santos thread, I looked up:
Bowen Yang (Chinese: 楊伯文; born November 6, 1990) is an Australian-born American actor, comedian, writer, and podcaster based in New York City. Yang was hired to join the writing staff of the NBC sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live in September 2018, ahead of its 44th season, and a year later, in September 2019, he was promoted to on-air cast status for SNL's 45th season as a featured player alongside Chloe Fineman, becoming its first Chinese-American, first Australian-American, third openly gay male (after Terry Sweeney and John Milhiser), and fourth-ever cast member of Asian descent.
:clap: 28 years old.
He made history becoming the first SNL featured player to be nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award in 2021.
:crazy: It's been on since 1975!
He was promoted to repertory status before the 47th season....

Yang's high school calculus teacher, Adrian Holguin, was also his coach for Smoky Hill High School's improvisational comedy group, Spontaneous Combustion. Yang got a near perfect score on the ACT (a 35) and a 2200 on his SAT, and graduated from high school in 2008. He was named homecoming king and also voted "Most Likely to Be a Cast Member on Saturday Night Live" in his high school's yearbook.
10 years before he made it.

His journey included:
Coming out as gay to his parents;
Failed gay conversion therapy;
Improv;
Graduated from NYU with a bachelor's degree in chemistry;
Comedy podcaster;
5 years employed as a self-taught graphic designer;
Various comedy appearances;
Forbes magazine's 30 Under 30 Hollywood & Entertainment list before becoming an SNL cast member.

CBS to Honor Dick Van Dyke With 98th Birthday Special in December

CBS is ringing in Dick Van Dyke‘s 98th birthday with an entertainment special honoring the legendary actor and performer.

“Dick Van Dyke 98 Years of Magic” will air Dec. 21 from 9 to 11 p.m. on the network, as well as stream live and on demand for Paramount+ With Showtime subscribers....
I watched a TV report about this, he still looks great! 100 looks to be a snap.

I still like her. Glad to see Drew gone, but unfortunately my least favorite survivor, Jake, is still there Wouldn't it be funny if Julie, after teetering over the edge for so long ended up winning?

Sort of amazing that there's a whole class of comedians that live to almost or over 100.

I like her but i also root for love. :lol: :roll:

She's betrayed Austin (who may not be the brightest bulb or may just be blinded by love -0-? ) two votes in a row. I guess she's keeping her eye on the ball but at this point I wouldn't be shocked if she voted him out. Will she still be a fan favorite then?

I'd be totally ok with a Dee win if she doesn't totally screw Austin, but I'm fearing a Dee win with two goats of Jake and Katura.

My favorite segments! :happy-cheerleaderkid:
:thumbup:

Weekend Update: Christmas Joke Swap 2023 - SNL

:laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rolling:

I had questions and did some googling.
Spoiler:

https://cartermatt.com/634757/saturday- ... joke-swap/
... Remember that entire show is scripted and prepared in advance. They have dress rehearsals! Sometimes the jokes can change up a little bit (and it’s possible Davis wasn’t there for the rehearsal), but that’s it.

We’re not here to destroy the entire illusion of the show or anything, but the whole purpose of Hattie Davis was to add to a long-running Weekend Update bit. We haven’t been able to find any record of a Hattie Davis as an activist online, nor in the third season as was referenced. She also wasn’t thanked in the goodnights, which makes us more confident that this was all for show and she was a construct created for the purpose of laughs. Regardless of if this Hattie Davis is real or not, the whole segment was played off so well that the bulk of the audience felt confused....
Yep, those were exactly my questions and the result of my googling. Whatever, "Amirite?" at 2:10 is genius!

I don't think the joke swap is rehearsed. "Hattie Davis" is apparently an actress who Che brought in to make Jost uncomfortable, brilliant!

Yes :clap:

If rehearsed the acting to make it seem unrehearsed is excellent.

The GQP has its own comedy team:

North Carolina Representative Greg Murphy. NC3 is the furthest district from me in miles. No one is going to apologize and all the :crybaby: has accomplished is to publicize the SNL sketch to people that didn't watch. Smart.
