I see that Scott Walker has picked up some support for his border wall.

Re: 2016 Elections
100 years from now when history has long been forgotten, Ronald Reagan will be viewed as a prophet of his own version of Christianity akin to Joseph Smith and the Mormons. The descendants left over from the great GOP implosion will follow him and spread his gospel to lands for and wide in the shell of the land formerly known as America. They will be tje ast glimmer of light left in a dark world of socialist tyranny.O Really wrote:How far astray will the go before somebody just smacks them down?
Right wing icon former President Ronald Reagan: “Where free unions and collective bargaining are forbidden, freedom is lost!” (Of course, a lot of air traffic controllers would agree on the "freedom is lost" part)
Righter-wing idiot and pretend Presidential candidate Scott Walker:
Pledged elimination of the National Labor Relations Board. Promised a national “right to work” law freeing workers from mandatory payments to unions that bargain collectively on their behalf. “Collective bargaining is not a right,” Walker said. “It is an expensive entitlement.” The governor then pledged “to wreak havoc on Washington.”

Why do these people think a wall would even be effective? It makes no sense.

10 Stories About Donald Trump You Won't Believe Are True
This is admittedly over 4 years old, but still worthy of review. This asshole is not simply an asshole- he is THE asshole. Nothing has made me as frightened for the future of this country as realizing just how many people are pimping for The Asshole and consider the classless, mega-mouthed, assclown, fuckstick, thrice-used tampon to be anything like presidential material.
And, no, I haven't fact checked it, but I did read the original comments. They are something to behold, given current events.
ps- apologies to tampons; when used once they are actually useful.

Trump is doing well largely based on celebrity and style not, in many ways, on conservative principles or track record. So, if he had run as a Dem, would he also be doing well?

Re: 2016 Elections
I really don't think so, though he would surely garner some support; I know left-leaning folks who think he's great and wonder why he's running as a TeaOP-er. But I can't help but feel that his blowhard asshole persona just wouldn't play that well with progressives. No class, no manners, no ethics, no filter, no self-control, no concept of consequences and absolutely no clue of Americans. He is astute enough to play to the low-brow cracker demographic, but the blowhard asshole thing is no act.Vrede too wrote:Trump is doing well largely based on celebrity and style not, in many ways, on conservative principles or track record. "Apprentice" did have a wide following. But not me, for many of the same reasons you mentioned. Why watch an asshole who will never (on his own show) get his comeuppance?

Anecdotal, but based on the 30-ish crowd my grown children run with, the more moderate and/or progressive of their compatriots consider Trump a joke, and that's in SC.Vrede too wrote:Yeah, but moderate and con Dems, enough to make up 25-30% like he's getting in the GOP? edit add: and for the record, I have found the blowhard asshole to be obnoxious and classless and unworthy of the air he breathes for decades, even when I called myself a conservative RWer.

I'm actually very conservative, just not what they consider today's "conservatives", which are nothing but loons and anything but conservative.

Today's "conservatives" remind me of a comment about the old "moral majority" (it is neither)Boatrocker wrote:I that much is assumed; I still have a lot of actual conservative beliefs. I'm actually very conservative, just not what they consider today's "conservatives", which are nothing but loons and anything but conservative.
But my problem with real conservative ideology is that while it sounds good in theory, it's hard to put to practice. For example, it sounds good to have a "limited government," "low taxes," "opportunities for economic growth" and "liberty and justice for all." But when you get down to saying "what limits, and how do those translate into use of budgetary allocation" you start getting into the gorse. When you say "low taxes" you are automatically cutting down the ability to provide certain services or build various stuff. And when you're cutting out "excessive regulation" you risk taking away protections that affect everyone.

Preaching to the choir, man, but I agree. Both God and the Devil are in the details, and the average idiot just doesn't want to be bothered with details, when talking points and bumper stickers are so much more convenient, and easier to fit on badly-spelled signs.
Of course, the most vocal of the wingnut right are certainly more than "average" idiots.

Re: 2016 Elections
Trump used to speak admiringly about universal health care, was once pro-choice on abortion, took a progressive view of gays in the military, supported a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants (of course; he employs thousands of them) and wanted a ban on assault rifles.
He now calls for the opposite now that he's running for the Republican leadership. Republicans love him because he "speaks his mind", unlike those other fake conservatives who would say anything to get elected.

And there's that gopher skin on his head. I believe that's obvious evidence of a massive insecurity hiding in all that bombast, bluster, bullshit and self-adoration. Someone should start plucking that insecurity like a banjo string; he'd self-destruct in a most entertaining manner.

Re: 2016 Elections
This post-debate poll will horrify the GOP establishment
... 1) Political n00bs get an outright majority of debate-watchers' support
36 percent of poll respondents support Donald Trump; 12 percent support Ben Carson; and 10 percent support Carly Fiorina. All together, that's 58 percent of Republican debate-watchers who support one of the three candidates in the race with no experience in elected office whatsoever. To put it another way, none of the twelve candidates in the field with political experience managed to crack 10 percent of the vote.
... 3) Jeb Bush's numbers are dismal — and Scott Walker's are even worse
... Scott Walker, who when the race started was the closest thing to the candidate of the conservative movement, is polling at 1 percent. He is tied with former New York Governor George Pataki.
4) The highest-polling elected official is Ted Cruz ...
