2018 elections

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

How the environment has become a key factor in Florida's elections

... For Fischer, and a state that touts tourism as being the number one economic industry -- making up to 23 percent of the state’s sales tax revenue, supporting more than 1.4 million jobs and creating a local value up to $45 billion -- losing those vital customers has Floridians wondering if it’s time to approach environmental policy differently....

I watched this video piece several times and I could not glean any racist implication from that statement. Although a poor choice of words,...

Given that the guy is a current version Republican Trumper, it's easy to believe the likelihood that he has little regard for non-white people. However, even if you believe that he didn't mean any racial disrespect with his comment, one still has to ask "who says 'monkey up'? That's not as common expression as mess up, screw up, foul up, blow it, fumble, etc. Why would a person as a public figure, knowing he's a target for many, even think that's a reasonable term to use with regard to a black opponent? And if he had intended disrespect, isn't "monkey" a term he might have used?

We can no longer publicly say the expression "jew him down", because it's hate speech...
We can can longer "jerry-rig" or "nig*er rig" or "Afro-engineer" something to make it work temporarily...

No, you can no longer use those terms because they're rude and disrespectful. Do you seriously think they're not?

I have to say it would depend on who's in current company; otherwise, yes.

Nope leo, it rolled off his tongue nice and natural because that the way he thinks and speaks. Like most racist, he has no idea what a hateful pig he is.
Similarly, neither he, you or George what's his name were able to understand the offence in calling someone a "macaca".
Yep, he doesn't have a clue that he's a racist, but there are many of us who can recognise hate when we see it.

Have you been copying quotes from the Daily Mail?
Regardless how smoothly his mouth moved, how he spoke the words, what language he spoke, or if he was speaking in tongues, I still don't believe he meant his words as a racial slur. Stupid choice of words, given the race of his opponent? Yes.
I had never heard of the word "macaca" until you posted it. I Googled it for definition.
In reading many articles dealing with this incident, most of the hatefulness in attitudes, speech, and name calling has come from the Liberal/Democrat camp. :o  :wtf:
So, since George Allen's family taught him to call people macaca monkeys it is not racist?

No idea why you missed him using the term to denigrate someone.

Current House - 115th Congress

Democrats 193
Republicans 235
Vacancies 7

RCP: Battle for the House 2018

Democrats 206
Republicans 190
Toss Ups 39 (37 of them are currently GOP seats)

Battle for the Senate 2018

Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-VT) and Sen. Angus King (I-ME) currently caucus with the Democrats.
Current Senate: 49 Democrats | 51 Republicans

Democrats 44
Republicans 47
Toss Ups 9 (4 of them are currently GOP seats)

The GOP has the edge, but a year ago their retention of control was a certainty given how many Dem seats were up for election. Now, the Dems could eke out a majority.

2018 Governor Races

Current Governors: 16 Democrats | 33 Republicans | 1 Independent

Democrats 20
Republicans 23
Toss Ups 7 (all of them are currently GOP seats)

Could Democrats pull off another Deep South surprise in
Spoiler:
Mississippi, Mississippi!
Senate race?

Link

I wouldn't bet on it, too many things have to line up perfectly for the Democrats, but it's impressive that it's even being discussed.

That may be what got Thad elected last go round.

US: Anti-gay Republican Senator jokes about doing ‘indecent things’ with animals

Thad Cochran – who represents Mississippi in the United States Senate – voted against against sexual orientation to the definition of hate crimes, against protection from discrimination in employment, in favour of a constutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, and for the Defence of Marriage Act.

However, in a speech at a hospital this week, he was more than happy to joke about bestiality.

He said of his childhood: “It was an adventure to be out there in the country and see what goes on.

“Picking up pecans to all kind of indecent things with animals… I know some of you know what that is.”

According to WLBT, the 76-year-old denied making the joke, despite clear video evidence circulating online.

He said: “Maybe I was misunderstood… I don’t remember saying it.”

Ironically, Mississippi’s state sodomy law – the same legislation that criminalised homosexuality – also classes bestiality as a crime.

It reads: “Every person who shall be convicted of the detestable and abominable crime against nature committed with mankind or with a beast, shall be punished by imprisonment in the penitentiary for a term of not more than ten years.”
Aside: When you highlight text on this gay UK website, each paragraph is a different rainbow color. Cool.

In watching the video closely, it's evident it's a lousy editing job. At the point of uttering his infamous words, his head jerks just a bit and there's a slight "hiccup" in his speech. Fake news. From UK. What else is new.

(What are you doing on a "Pink" website with rainbow colored paragraphs anyway?)

Nothing wrong with skepticism, but what makes you really "special" is that you're stupid enough to express it while being too lazy to google and see if your skepticism is warranted.
cochran indecent things with animals
For example, there's Faux Noise:
GOP rivals locked in tight, nasty Mississippi Senate runoff

... A PAC supporting McDaniel is using Cochran’s own words against him – a rather bizarre utterance at a recent campaign appearance where he said that as a child it was fun to do “all sorts of indecent things with animals.” The radio ad from Now Or Never PAC includes a bleating sheep as the narrator says: “Tell Thad Cochran you’re no farm animal.” ...
I get how desperate you are to get even for all the times that billy.pilgrim and I have exposed how often you fall for "Fake news", but you really should have learned by now that we're just not as gullible as you are. You make a complete fool of yourself every time.

(What are you doing on a "Pink" website with rainbow colored paragraphs anyway?)

I googled the incident. Some of the links had glitches, some didn't have a headline I liked and, oddly, most of the links were rightwing. This may be explained by McDaniel being more of an extreme rightwinger than Cochran. It doesn't look like the MSM really cared. So, the gay UK website was merely the first non-glitch, decent headline, non-rightwing site I found, but you are free to fantasize whatever you want, sweetie.

Rep. Paul Gosar (R) represents Arizona's 4th Congressional District.

Paul Gosar Is Not Working For You Long

 :!:
Article

... Following the death of counterprotester Heather Heyer during a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, Gosar pushed the conspiracy theory that the riots were "created by the left" and billionaire George Soros in an interview with VICE News. He also said Soros, a Democratic fundraiser, collaborated with Nazis during World War II, a claim pushed by far-right pundit Alex Jones and InfoWars. Soros, and others, condemned the baseless accusation.

Gosar also boycotted a speech to Congress by Pope Francis in 2015, the only congressman to do so, after penning an op-ed that called him a "leftist" and criticized his attention to climate change, which Gosar calls "questionable science" used to "guilt people into leftist policies."

As House Western Caucus chairman, he has also taken a leading role in overhauling the Endangered Species Act.
RCP doesn't think the seat is in play at all, which may make the ad even more stunning.

I thought I posted a video of this idiot questioning someone and trying to list the 3 branches of government, but can't find it here. He failed.

It was the same rant where he claimed that because he is a dentist, he is an expert at reading body language.

Yep, he's dumber than a gomert.

Found it. Watch the whole thing at your own risk - the body language funnies are at about the 4 minute mark, but the real funny stupid is just past the 5 minute mark.
