This is admittedly over 4 years old, but still worthy of review. This asshole is not simply an asshole- he is THE asshole. Nothing has made me as frightened for the future of this country as realizing just how many people are pimping for The Asshole and consider the classless, mega-mouthed, assclown, fuckstick, thrice-used tampon to be anything like presidential material.

And, no, I haven't fact checked it, but I did read the original comments. They are something to behold, given current events.

I really don't think so, though he would surely garner some support; I know left-leaning folks who think he's great and wonder why he's running as a TeaOP-er. But I can't help but feel that his blowhard asshole persona just wouldn't play that well with progressives. No class, no manners, no ethics, no filter, no self-control, no concept of consequences and absolutely no clue of Americans. He is astute enough to play to the low-brow cracker demographic, but the blowhard asshole thing is no act.

Anecdotal, but based on the 30-ish crowd my grown children run with, the more moderate and/or progressive of their compatriots consider Trump a joke, and that's in SC.

Today's "conservatives" remind me of a comment about the old "moral majority" (it is neither)

But my problem with real conservative ideology is that while it sounds good in theory, it's hard to put to practice. For example, it sounds good to have a "limited government," "low taxes," "opportunities for economic growth" and "liberty and justice for all." But when you get down to saying "what limits, and how do those translate into use of budgetary allocation" you start getting into the gorse. When you say "low taxes" you are automatically cutting down the ability to provide certain services or build various stuff. And when you're cutting out "excessive regulation" you risk taking away protections that affect everyone.

Preaching to the choir, man, but I agree. Both God and the Devil are in the details, and the average idiot just doesn't want to be bothered with details, when talking points and bumper stickers are so much more convenient, and easier to fit on badly-spelled signs.
Of course, the most vocal of the wingnut right are certainly more than "average" idiots.

Trump used to speak admiringly about universal health care, was once pro-choice on abortion, took a progressive view of gays in the military, supported a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants (of course; he employs thousands of them) and wanted a ban on assault rifles.

He now calls for the opposite now that he's running for the Republican leadership. Republicans love him because he "speaks his mind", unlike those other fake conservatives who would say anything to get elected.
