I get that you have to keep personnel discipline actions confidential, but where is the public apology to the tween for bullying her and the public explanation from Marshal Patterson of the law that he lied about, and why in the world would you want to keep on payroll a cop that is too cowardly to do these things after he's shamed your town across the nation?
Heh, I wrote to those folks this morning; haven't heard anything back, though.......don't expect to. I'm quite sure they didn't dig what I had to tell them.

Strange and tragic story in the local news today up here.....a young Big Stone Gap, VA police officer and his cousin were both found dead in a pickup truck on a rural road. The event has been described as a murder/suicide. I consider it strange bordering on weird.

Darius Hinkle was doing, arguably, what every father in his situation would when his one-year-old daughter started to choke on a penny. “First thing in my mind was getting her to the hospital,” Hinkle told Fox 2 Now.
Despite not having a valid driver’s license, he rushed her to the hospital, clocking, what police say, was 100 miles per hour.
Upon arriving at the hospital, he had a trail of police, from different agencies, behind him with their lights on. He, and his daughter’s mother, Donecia Pittman, were ordered out of their vehicle with their hands on their head. Pittman told the outlet that she was screaming their daughter was choking.
Hinkle was promptly arrested for traffic violations while staff at Touchette Regional Hospital in Centreville, Ill. treated his baby.
After the terrifying incident, Pittman went to the police station to bail Hinkle out. To her surprise, a person was ahead of her asking to bail out Darius Hinkle. As Pittman was wondering just who the woman was, she turned around and explained that she was a nurse at Touchette Regional Hospital. She and other nurses had chipped in to bail Hinkle out of jail.
Hinkle told Fox 2 Now, “I can’t thank [the nurses] enough,” for both their kindness shown towards him and for saving his little girl....

I am so proud of my colleagues for saving the baby, for bailing out Dad and for sticking it in the faces of the cops. Interesting that the MD apparently did not chip in. Most are great, but a few are jerks.

It'll be interesting to know what the judge thinks of this. 100 mph. is illegal in any setting, especially through city streets. At the time of arrest, the cops were doing their duty: upholding the law.
The article states "Hinkle was promptly arrested for traffic violations while staff at (the hospital) treated his baby." I take this to mean they allowed him to take the baby in for treatment before arresting. The law is the law.

City, town, village, burg, rural or open road; 100 mph is illegal with or without an "escort". Even LEO's and emergency personnel are prohibited from reaching those speeds. I repeat, it's the cop's duty to uphold the law, not to decide whether or not to arrest or issue a ticket; that's why we have judges, hence my remark about the judge's decision.
(Cops can, in many cases, afford some leniency or issue a warning; but given the numbers of the pursuers, that move would have been unwise)
