3 former deputies say FBI asked them about Sheriff Chuck Wright's alleged pill use, misspending

https://www.postandcourier.com/spartanb ... 0a893.html
SPARTANBURG — Three former deputies told The Post and Courier they were interviewed by FBI agents as part of a federal investigation into Sheriff Chuck Wright.

Two said agents asked them questions about Wright's use of prescription pain pills, and both told The Post and Courier that Wright had asked them for pills in separate episodes that go back nearly five years.

One former deputy said agents also inquired about Wright's spending, including why he used his county-funded credit card for a hotel room in Spartanburg. The former deputy wasn't sure why Wright booked the room.

...

The federal probe isn't the only investigation Wright faces.

Shortly after Wright’s most recent Republican primary win in June of 2024, he hired his son, Andy Wright, as a deputy. The move seemed to directly contradict a state law that prohibits public officials from hiring immediate family members if the position is one the official supervises or manages.

Multiple complaints were filed and the state Ethics Commission began investigating the matter.

As the ethics commission began examining Andy Wright’s hiring, The Post and Courier reported on Sheriff Wright’s county-funded credit card — one that county council and administrators didn’t know he had. It wasn't tied to the P-card program or rules governing other taxpayer-funded charge cards.

Wright hasn't provided The Post and Courier or the county with receipts connected to the more than $53,000 in charges he accumulated between December 2017 and April 2024. His office said those receipts weren't saved, but the credit card bills themselves show those purchases included $12,000 at Apple.com, $8,000 on fast food, pizza and steakhouses, and $8,000 on high-end hotels.
I alwaya thought Wright was a POS

Polk County had a sheriff or sheriff candidate (Abril) who was accused of using someone else's credit card at a Lowe's or something like that. And I think the former Madison County sheriff, who is now or was, the state ABC commissioner after being sheriff, was accused of something but I can't remember what it was. I think it was something about charging personal expenses to the county. Funny that those four counties are in a linear line from the TN border to the SC border.

Beats me. In my entire thirty years of living in NC, I've only had one interaction with law enforcement in only one of those four counties. And I lived in two of them. I always sped through Madison County in an effort to not spend amy more time there than necessary. But I did once have a lover in Polk County who once dated a deputy down there who ran unsuccessfully for sheriff. By the way, has there been any updates with regard to whether former Henderson County sheriff Davis is still crazy?

The good news about Davis is we have no idea where he is or what he is doing.

" I did once have a lover in Polk County ..." sounds like the start of country song or maybe a gothic novel.

Searched HT-N, AC-T and WLOS, couldn't find any mention of him at all. :headscratch: -0-?

An Idaho execution:
Idaho police release body camera video of nonverbal and autistic teen's fatal shooting

... Perez had fallen over and was on the ground when officers arrived. Guns drawn, they repeatedly yelled, “Drop the knife!” but he instead stood up and began to step toward them. Three officers opened fire with their handguns, while a fourth fired a bean-bag shotgun, officials said Thursday.
Why the hell did they fire their handguns when they could all see that a bean-bag shotgun had been deployed? Why didn't the shotgun cop yell, "I got this!"?
... The shooting has outraged community members who questioned why the officers fired without trying to learn more about the situation, use de-escalation techniques or use less-lethal force. About 200 people attended a vigil Saturday morning outside the Pocatello hospital where Perez died, and another crowd of protesters gathered that afternoon outside Pocatello City Hall, which also houses the police department.

... But policing experts who have reviewed cellphone video of Perez's shooting note that there was a fence between the officers and the teen, that they used lethal force instead of Tasers and that they failed to use the basic tactic of backing up to create space between them and Perez.

Brad Andres, who recorded video of the shooting on his phone after his son called 911, said the police “appeared to be like a death squad or a firing squad.”

“They never once asked, ‘What is the situation, how can we help?’” he said. “They ran up with their guns drawn, they triggered a mentally disabled person to react and when he reacted ... they shot him.”

Semi-serious question: why don't they use horse vets, or at least the stuff vets put horses down with? Or why not administer a surgery-type anesthesia and then do something to kill them off? It's ridiculous to make such a show of avoiding "cruel and unusual punishment" when the ultimate objective is just to kill the guy as quickly as possible. So if you're gonna shoot him, shoot him in the head - the term "execution style" came from somewhere. And if you're not gonna kill him off within a reasonable time from conviction, why not quit acting like he's on "death row" for 20 years?

Horses have bigger veins than humans.
One of the methods does involve Versed first for anesthesia.
If they can't hit a heart at a short distance they won't do better with head shots. Idk why they don't do it "execution style" from inches away.
Even with many years of appeals they get some wrong, or they only exonerate after those many years.

IMO it's better to save the people money by ending state killing and using life without parole in its place. Lots of time to correct mistakes.

Yeah, I prefer that too, but if they're gonna kill them, they could do a lot better job. Killing has always been more of a scary show for the masses than a simple means of getting rid of a bad guy. Way back there were beheadings, with heads on a pole. Drawn and quartered, stoned, hanged. Only relatively recently have executions been somewhat limited from public viewing. I just say if you're gonna kill them, don't make a show of it. There are efficient and effective ways to do that, as demonstrated almost daily on the streets in our peaceful non-violent country.
