That's just bizarre and they're trying to make it the new normal.

Re: The Supremes
Surprising no one who's paying a little bit of attention, Alito is a lying sack of shit.
The former neighbor of Samuel Alito and his wife, Martha-Ann, told CNN in her first television interview Wednesday that the Supreme Court justice’s account of a dispute between her and his wife didn’t add up—and that he was “at best mistaken, but at worst he’s just outright lying.”
Better article.

Re: The Supremes
That can only include the "gifts" (bribes) that have been sleuthed so far

Former Alito Law Clerk ‘Aghast’ After Seeing Jan. 6 Flag Outside His Home, Calls For Recusal
"The problem is that flag is incendiary and it cannot do anything other than raise a reasonable inference of bias," Susan Sullivan said.
... Sullivan, now a professor at Temple University, told O’Donnell. “It is irrelevant if Mrs. Alito flew it or not. The fact is that flag was there.”
“This is not an insignificant symbol,” she went on. “Irrespective of why it is there, who put it there, it shouldn’t have been there. The problem is that flag is incendiary and it cannot do anything other than raise a reasonable inference of bias.”
... “[It is] the symbol of these people who attacked the Capitol. They support Trump unconditionally,” she said. “So if you’ve got cases before the court that directly relate not just to the former president but to criminal cases that involve that election process…”
“The stakes have never been higher and recusal is, to me, it just defies logic that one would not recuse themselves from a case like this,” Sullivan added. “The stakes are too high.”

John Roberts Rejects Senators' Request To Discuss Samuel Alito’s Flag Scandal
The Supreme Court chief justice said it “would be inadvisable” to meet to talk about recusal questions related to Donald Trump.
Coward. Corruption abettor.

House Dems Ask John Roberts If Sam Alito's Flag Mess Violated The Court's Ethics Rules
Members of the judiciary committee also asked the Supreme Court chief justice how he plans to enforce his toothless code of conduct.

Re: The Supremes
From the last article I linked:
... The only real recourse Democrats have, apart from trying to pass a Supreme Court ethics bill that has no chance of making it through this Congress, is to try to subpoena Alito to appear before the Senate judiciary committee and explain his ethics problems. The committee chairman, Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), has the authority to do this, but has not tried to do so.
Durbin wouldn’t be able to do this unilaterally, though. He’d need the top Republican on the committee to sign off, which would not happen in this case, or a majority vote in the committee. It’s not clear if all 10 Democrats on the committee would vote to do this....

Re: The Supremes
Same ways that SCOTUS claims immunity from independent or congressional oversight, and TRE45QN is claiming immunity from all lawbreaking?

Re: The Supremes
Apparently the Supremes have a much laxer ethical standard than even the Pinellas (FL) county attorney staff. One of our (former) colleagues took a job with Pinellas County. A couple of us visited her in her office and asked to take her to lunch. Nope. Couldn't go. She also couldn't give us any coffee (sent us to the snack bar downstairs) nor could we bring her back any coffee. All of which would have been complications if we had ever been awarded work for them. Yes, I think that's unreasonable, but it's a strict interpretation of "favors." No, she's not going to be bribed with a lunch, but in the view of the County, that's using a personal relationship to affect County business. Nevermind that we had all known each other for years. Unreasonable or no, it's a far cry from a Supreme Court Justice thinking it's OK to accept thousands in value from somebody who has a case coming up to the Court.

Re: The Supremes
AFAIK yes, but not if he can claim separation of powers immunity because the executive branch should not have sway over SCOTUS. Who would decide this constitutional question? SCOTUS, of course.

Re: The Supremes
In theory and in "normal" times, certainly Thomas if not the whole court would need to recuse and a lower court ruling would stand.
