Trump on Trial

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Not gonna happen, but we can fantasize:
34 counts x 4 years = 136 years in prison

Remove Aileen Cannon Petitions Pass 300K Signatures
May 08, 2024

Petitions calling for the removal of Judge Aileen Cannon from Donald Trump's classified documents case have now amassed more than 300,000 signatures.

... Newsweek has found six petitions calling for Cannon's removal from the case....
Two of the most popular:
https://sign.moveon.org/petitions/remov ... trump-case (removal)
https://www.dailykos.com/campaigns/form ... mps-case-2 (recusal)

I signed both.
 I broke the federal judiciary:

After 1,000 complaints in one week, court no longer accepting ‘orchestrated’ complaints about judge in Trump’s Florida case

Republican group pushing back on Trump immunity claim in $2M campaign

A group called Republicans for the Rule of Law launched a $2 million ad campaign Friday pushing back on former President Trump’s claim that he has absolute immunity from being prosecuted for his actions surrounding the 2020 presidential election.

The advertisements feature 25 conservatives explaining why they favor the rule of law over absolute immunity....

“Our constitutional system is predicated on legal accountability and equal justice under the law, even for presidents and past presidents,” Sarah Longwell, the executive director of Republicans for the Rule of Law, said in a statement. “Conservatives feel this in our bones: No man or woman is above the law. In this case, that means rejecting the ‘absolute immunity’ claim.”...

We believe the rule of law is more important than protecting one person. Even a president.

"The damage it would do to America is incomprehensible."

Trump in Even More Legal Trouble—This Time, in the U.K.

Donald Trump is in trouble in the United Kingdom for not paying the legal costs of the company owned by former MI6 spy Christopher Steele, after losing a lawsuit over Steele’s infamous Russia dossier.

According to a report from Sky News, Trump is in breach of a British High Court ruling in March that ordered him to pay 300,000 pounds (approximately $385,000), after he lost his lawsuit against against Orbis Business Intelligence, which in 2016 put together a dossier alleging that Trump and his close associates were compromised by Russian intelligence. The dossier included salacious details claiming that Trump had participated in sex parties in St. Petersburg, Russia, with the country’s intelligence allegedly possessing video of the now-convicted felon receiving “golden showers” from Russian sex workers.

Trump denied all of the claims made in the dossier, which was compiled by Steele, and claimed in his lawsuit that he “suffered personal and reputational damage and distress,” particularly from the sex-related claims. In the end, he lost the trial and was ordered to reimburse Orbis for its legal fees.

On Friday morning, Steele pointed out that Trump hasn’t complied with the court order for two months, opening him up to legal enforcement if he travels to the U.K.

Image

... As a result of his felony conviction in his hush-money trial, in which he still awaits sentencing, Trump is technically barred from traveling to 38 countries that don’t allow felons to cross their borders, including the U.K. Perhaps the British government can make an exception in its travel ban, if only to collect on his debt. Of course, Trump has a long history of not paying what he owes.
Deadbeat Donald.

Missouri attorney general to sue New York over Trump prosecutions
Andrew Bailey’s lawsuit targets New York attorney general and Manhattan DA, who both secured Trump convictions

The Missouri attorney general, Andrew Bailey, has confirmed that he is suing the state of New York for election interference and wrongful prosecution for bringing the Stormy Daniels hush-money case to a trial that saw Donald Trump convicted of 34 felonies.

Bailey, a Republican politician appointed by Missouri’s governor, Mike Parson, last year, said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) that he would be filing a lawsuit “against the State of New York for their direct attack on our democratic process through unconstitutional lawfare against President Trump”.

“We have to fight back against a rogue prosecutor who is trying to take a presidential candidate off the campaign trail. It sabotages Missourians’ right to a free and fair election,” he added in a subsequent message....

Having this hearing is a joke and a travesty. The reality may be worse, this woman is so in the bag for trump it's nausea inducing. She's being fed and asking prejudicial questions.

Justice Amy Coney Barrett says presidential immunity doesn't apply to Trump's fake electors scheme

... Writing specifically about Trump's fake-elector scheme: "In my view, that conduct is private and therefore not entitled to protection. The Constitution vests power to appoint Presidential electors in the States. And while Congress has a limited role in that process, the President has none.”

Years of "official acts" trials and 5-4 rulings coming. Thanks, Roberts

The GoFundMe was launched by the star’s former manager Dwayne Crawford in late June with the aim of raising $1m to help her to move to a more secure location for her family’s protection due to the ongoing threats.

“We have had front-row seats to the parts of this story that don’t fit neatly into click-bait headlines,” Crawford wrote on the page, adding that he and other friends of Daniels have witnessed the consequences of her speaking out against the former president, including her “not knowing whether or not her family will have a home come August”.

“It’s become unsafe for her family and her pets,” Crawford continued.

“Her horses have been shot twice now by protesters and even mainstream media paparazzi trying to provoke her out of her home. As if that’s not bad enough, Trump is still tangling her up in lawsuits in an effort to bleed her dry financially because his cult of minions will foot the bill for him to do so.

“Stormy needs help to relocate her family to somewhere they can feel safe and live life on their terms. She needs assistance to be able to continue to pay the mounting court fees so that Trump doesn’t just win because his pocketbook seems endless.”
:problem: :(
The allusion to the account on Maddow’s show inspired a groundswell of support and caused donations to flood in, with many taking to social media to express their support.

Among the supporters was the writer E Jean Carroll, who was awarded a total of $88m from Trump in two civil trials accusing him first of sexual assault and then defamation, who posted on Tuesday: “I’d be happy to help!!”...

He was no longer PINO when he removed the docs from the WH nor when he ignored subpoenas, can't be "official acts".

He was PINO when he removed them, he wasn't when he didn't give them back.

Regardless of the ludicrous argument they make, she'll slow walk it. The Supremes gave him the argument and booted the decisions back to the lower courts to be re-appealed back up to the Supremes in a couple of years. :angry-cussing:
