Happy Turtle Day, Sen. Mitch 'Turtle' McConnell!

Generally an unmoderated forum for discussion of pretty much any topic. The focus however, is usually politics.

Paul and I agree, Capitol doc Monahan’s letter does not make sense. GoCubsGo did a better job with Turtle "ain't right."
Was I clear? I also agree with broken clock Paul.

You were clear about agreeing with Paul, but I wasn't sure if your "But" implied that Paul and I disagree, that Paul and GoCubsGo disagree, or neither.

I'm not sure if any of us have ever agreed with paul, thus my broken clock reference.

True. I rarely agreed with Rand way back when he was still a libertarian - more often with dad Ron - but I basically never agree with Rand since he became just another RW RepuQ, usually not even on healthcare issues.

Sen Josh Hawley (R-MO) is another broken clock we never agree with.

Mitch McConnell warns GOP senators they’ll face ‘incoming’ if they back Hawley bill to limit corporate giving in campaigns

 Democracy-hating traitor, Moscow Mitch, longtime controller of a powerful super PAC.

Ironically, whether truly medically unfit or just another elitist Vietnam coward, Mitch never faced ‘incoming’ in his life.
... Hawley’s new bill, called the Ending Corporate Influence on Elections Act, is aimed at reversing the Supreme Court’s 2010 Citizens United decision that loosened campaign finance laws – an effort that aligns the conservative Missouri Republican with many Democrats. Hawley’s bill would ban publicly traded corporations from making independent expenditures and political advertisements – and ban those publicly traded companies from giving money to super PACs.

In an interview, Hawley defended his bill and said that corporate influence should be limited in elections.

“I think that’s wrong,” Hawley told CNN. “I think it’s wrong as an original matter. I think it’s warping our politics, and I see no reason for conservatives to defend it. It’s wrong as a matter of the original meaning of the Constitution. It is bad for our elections. It’s bad for our voters. And I just think on principle, we ought to be concerned.” ...

Who will replace Mitch McConnell? The 3 Republicans who are likeliest to succeed him

... Here are the three Republican senators — all named John — who might replace McConnell as the leader of their party in the upper chamber of Congress.
 Hmm, which toilet to wish for?

Sen. John Thune (SD, 62) - Most Moscow Mitch-ish? Could be worse:

Sen. John Cornyn (TX, 71) - At least he wouldn't last long.

Sen. John Barrasso (WY, 71) - At least he wouldn't last long.

Other possibilities

Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton :puke-left:

Florida Sen. Rick Scott  - a billy.pilgrim favorite

All White, all male, of course  I wonder who the House "Freedom" Caucus would approve of, maybe Cotton or Josh Hawley.

So there truly are no "mainstream" repugs left? The bunch of empty suits formerly known as "Republicans" must be ummm "led" by drooling moon-barkers? Damn, I just went down the list: Romney is the only one left as far as I can tell. Doomed.

Surprisingly, there are 9 RepuQ women in the Senate, including neoplacebo's MarshaMarshaMarsha Blackburn:

Shame on them, but I'm sure at least one is capable of leadership. Then, there's non-White Tim Scott.

How exciting, we could have a clusterfuck of a leader election to rival the house.

Moscow Mitch has blown hot and cold. I appreciate the timing of this, though he's still been too complicit to forgive:
McConnell says ‘MAGA movement is completely wrong’ and Reagan ‘wouldn’t recognize’ Trump’s GOP

... “I think Trump was the biggest factor in changing the Republican Party from what Ronald Reagan viewed and he wouldn’t recognize today,” McConnell told the Associated Press’ Michael Tackett for the upcoming biography “The Price of Power” obtained by CNN ahead of its release.

McConnell added that the former president has “done a lot of damage to our party’s image and our ability to compete.”

... “Unfortunately, about half the Republicans in the country believe whatever he says,” McConnell said at the time, adding to an oral historian, “I think I’m pretty safe in saying it’s not just the Democrats who are counting the days until he leaves on January 20, but the Republicans as well.”...

“I’m not at all conflicted about whether what the president did is an impeachable offense. I think it is. Urging an insurrection and people attacking the Capitol as a direct result … is about as close to an impeachable offense as you can imagine, with the possible exception of maybe being an agent for another country,” said McConnell.
TRE45QN is that, too.
... The Kentucky Republican did not mince words, calling Trump a “sleazeball,” a “narcissist” and saying that the former president is “stupid as well as being ill-tempered.” He added that Trump is “not very smart, irascible, nasty, just about every quality you would not want somebody to have.”

... In 2022, Trump referred to Chao as McConnell’s “China loving wife, Coco Chow” in a post on Truth Social. Tackett reports that Chao was “deeply disturbed” by the comments, and McConnell said that his wife is “not used to taking a punch.”

... He called the rioters who entered the Senate chamber, “narcissistic, just like Donald Trump, sitting in the vice president’s chair taking pictures of themselves,” adding it was a “shocking occurrence and further evidence of Donald Trump’s complete unfitness for office.”

In a statement to CNN about his comments on the former president in the book, McConnell said, “Whatever I may have said about President Trump pales in comparison to what JD Vance, Lindsey Graham, and others have said about him, but we are all on the same team now.”
 :---P
... McConnell also expressed support for special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into Trump’s actions around the 2020 election and the insurrection. “I think it was the single most – in a category by itself – of how wrong all of it was and there’s no doubt who inspired it, and I just hope that he’ll have to pay a price for it,” said McConnell. “If he hasn’t committed indictable offenses, I don’t know what one is.”
