April 27--WELCOME TO THE WORLD OR6 named for its parents' initials, first chick of 2026 and sixth chick of Oren and Ruth's breeding lifetime hatched after 37 days incubation. The exact time of hatch when the chick was fully out of the shell was hard to call, but at 15:26, Ruth picked up half of the shell and moved it so we assume the chick was fully out. An evergreen twig was in the way but we got to see much of the hatch helped significantly by mom.
WELCOME TO THE WORLD OR7 named for its parents' initials, second chick of 2026 and seventh chick of Oren and Ruth's breeding lifetime hatched after 34 days of incubation. The exact time of hatch was also hard to call but at 17:09 after Ruth moved, we saw the second newly hatched chick next to its fluffy sibling and OR7's spotted eggshell off to the side! We're THRILLED both chicks hatched on the same day like last year and we'll continue to follow them on the SU Hawk Nest Cam! Stay tuned for the fun!!
Enjoy watching Red-tailed Hawk Pair, Oren and Ruth, raise their 2026 brood on a building archway at Syracuse University (SU). This will be the third brood for this pair of six year old hawks; they had three chicks in 2024 and two chicks in 2025. Oren hatched in 2020 on another archway at SU and returned in 2023 with his mate Ruth to carry on the legacy of his parents, SU-Sue and Otto, who raised 28 chicks from 2012 through 2022 before they died of avian influenza in January, 2023....
