Virginia Man Accused of Running Truck into Protesters Admits to Being KKK Leader

An admitted KKK leader has been sentenced to 6 years in prison after driving a truck through a crowd of protesters in June

... Harry Rogers, 37, was convicted by a judge of six misdemeanors, including four counts of assault and battery, one count of failure to stop at the scene of an accident, and one count of destruction of property.

Rogers still faces three felony counts of attempted malicious wounding, court records show. He has not yet registered a plea on those charges....

No one was killed or seriously wounded in the attack, but three people were injured, according to prosecutors....

A former Department of Homeland Security official under President Trump told Yahoo News Friday that she is alarmed by the way the administration has ignored and even downplayed the growing threat posed by right-wing domestic terrorists, whom she said are “hands down” a far graver threat to American lives than left-wing protest groups such as antifa.

Elizabeth Neumann, a political appointee who recently stepped down as assistant secretary for threat prevention and security policy at DHS, said she was disappointed by the portrayal by speakers at the Republican National Convention of lawless Democratic cities — even as nothing was said about extreme right-wing domestic terrorists and white supremacists.

“It is completely a sideshow to distract from the real threat and it’s extremely dangerous,” Neumann said on “Skullduggery,” a Yahoo News podcast, of the administration’s posture. “There are multiple arrests that the FBI has conducted in the last few months at these peaceful protests where you have right-wing extremists coming in trying to take advantage of the cover of the protests to carry out these violent acts and they are trying to start a race war. They’re very clear about their ideology and what they’re trying to do and we won't say it. We won’t call it like it is and that’s a problem.”

An expert on domestic terrorism, Neumann also worked on homeland security issues in the administration of George W. Bush administration. She said she is alarmed by the dramatic increase in white supremacist activity and the speed with which these groups have been able to win recruits....

Earlier this month, another former employee of the department, Miles Taylor, also came out against the president in his own scathing attack ad for the Republican group.

Riot in Sweden after anti-Muslim Danish leader banned

At least 10 people were arrested, and several police officers injured, in violence which broke out in southern Sweden after an anti-Muslim Danish politician was blocked from attending a Koran-burning rally, police said Saturday.

Protesters threw stones at police and burned tyres on the streets of Malmo late Friday, with the violence escalating as the evening wore on, according to police and local media.

The demonstration of about 300 people was connected to an incident earlier in the day in which protesters burned a copy of the Islamic holy book, police spokesman Rickard Lundqvist told Swedish tabloid Expressen....

Malmo is an industrial city of 320,000 inhabitants, Over 40 percent of its residents have foreign roots.

Police: Teacher with far-right ties harassed health officer



A California community college instructor with ties to the far-right, anti-government “boogaloo" movement was in custody on suspicion of sending two dozen misogynistic and threatening letters to a county health officer involving the coronavirus pandemic, authorities said Tuesday.

Alan Viarengo, 55, was arrested last week and investigators seized 138 firearms, thousands of rounds of ammunition and explosive materials from his home in Gilroy, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office said.

Viarengo was charged with felony counts of stalking and threatening a public official after authorities said the letters were sent to county Health Director Dr. Sara Cody. He has not entered a plea. His bail was revoked and he remains in jail.

Investigators said the letters became “increasingly aggressive, offensive and threatening" and contained slogans and imagery from the boogaloo movement, a loosely organized, right-wing extremist group known for anti-government, anti-police and pro-gun beliefs.

Some people in the movement have protested pandemic-related public health restrictions as a violation of their rights as they carry firearms and warn of violence. The extremist movement uses “boogaloo” — a 1980s movie sequel — as a code word for a second civil war....
